Ask Winston Company that question since they decided to go after this man. Nascar should be backing him and its pethetic they wont. look at management in nascar it makes sense, pure garbage.
A lot of those car's are stepping stones that opened the door for NASCAR to race venues such as the Brickyard and beyond. What you all do is appreciated.
My Sister (Elaine Hughes) made the Mean Green eyes/ eyebrow logo for the company, ( later showed up on the 90 Car). She made the logo for the company and had them as her sponser on her LMS that she ran at Charlotte Motor Speedway Park. She currently manages Rick Ware Racing.

DarWal closed during the 1998 season. He had signed a deal with a sponsor that fell through. The last offical race for them was the 1998 Southern 500 in a Tim Flock Paint Scheme.

So @12:35 the Action diecast model that you see, My dad hand carved the master patterns out of wood for Action, he made all the Winston Cup NASCARs master patterns for them. Most of the other diecast complies were making the NASCAR's wrong by making them the same on both sides.. when my dad had made them all (as my dad would say cattywampus)Twisted Sister as you would say. In fact, he did all the Action Champ cars as well, except the Andretti Swift that I had made! My dad made all the Lancer slot cars' bodies from the 60s that some of you may be old enough to remember! Went here in 2019. Thing I remember most is before we left, near the exit, there was a stand with Matt Kenseth 2003 Winston Cup Trophy. I looked around to make sure no one was there, grabbed the trophy, lifted it, put it right back down, and then bolted out the door.(Sorry Will!) Great video.
I remember many of these cars, that was when one of my local restaurants had a weekly pot and you had to buy a number early in the week or do without. Everyone watched the Nascar races and Bill Elliot and Dale Earnhardt were the top two drivers. I remember an ex-girlfriend had two beagles she named Elliot and Earnhardt. This brought me back to a much simpler time in my life when you could easily tell the difference between a ford, chevy, oldsmobile, buick, pontiac and a few dodge's here and there. Then the next gen cars came about, and along with Nascar's incompetent, condescending and greedy leadership, ruined it and chased off most of their diehard race fans, never to return!

I am so thrilled you took the time to produce this video. I am so happy you had such a casual, detailed, honest, and heartfelt, interview with such a true icon of our old Winston Cup NASCAR. It was so sad and wrenched my heart when a question was asked, if certain cars are going to auction, and the answer drew out such a gut wrenching "yes" from our friend. It hurt like Hell to be told the truth. Now we must help this young man understand how much we love him for his life's work of passion. I grew up over in Hanestown in the 60's and 70's and worked for Piedmont. I've got some stories I will share about Richard Childress in our neighborhood, and my small contribution to a NASCAR championship in the 80's. I'll try to take time and write them down in another comment later. And I am doing it honoring the Winston Cup Museum and the personal thanks for bringing back such wonderful memories, although the video is under such sad circumstances. It is a shame Winston-Salem and the powers that be are such low life individuals. Not a gut amongst any of those morons anymore.
Excellent video once again Stapleton. I really wish I could visit this place. I would be here all day looking at all this awesome Winston Cup history. Great video as always. 8:58 I really appreciate the attention to details you show cool to see these shots from under the car and the small stuff that makes up the whole. A vintage stock car racing tour with open pits could be a nice way to bring these museum pieces to more people in a fun, multi-sensory, unforgettable experience.

Winston Salem didn’t do anything… ITG brands llc in Greensboro caused this mess, they own Winston cigarettes and its branding that they bought from rjr tobacco years ago
Thanks for bringing us the show car world, something that I did not know much about! JKS played such a vital role in advertising and marketing NASCAR. Now I know where all those race cars went, they became show cars.
The creativity when painting cars, wrapping , or decal placement is impressive. I wonder what approval process was in place to satisfy all the various brands requirements? Another very impressive video. Thanks Mitchell and Logan.
@44:33 "notice It says "Oldsmoberry" Dang you got me with that one Mitch!!!!!! You got Lucky, I have a very close eye for attention to detail Sir & Mam.
I wish I could have made it out to Winston-Salem and check this place out before it closed. I’m not too awfully far away but it’s a drive and life happens. This video is a mighty fine replacement though. Learning about these cars’ history could keep me entertained for days straight. Lol Is there a part two video? Did you learn info about the 80s Budweiser monte?
Thanks for the video Mitch and Logan! My wife and I visited the museum last October. The day before the Martinsville race. The gentleman who was there that day was super friendly, generous and informative as well. Unfortunately I forget his name. Sad to see what they've gone through recently. 😢
You both deserve all the credit! You’re doing an amazing job keeping this old school stuff alive! Trust me, I’m in my late 50s , and all the great videos that you share, to me, are some of the best I’ve ever seen! You get into the real NASCAR, even before it was cool. I spent a big part of my life, hearing that they only drove around in circles. I’m the late eighties, my friends, started liking it, and some of them were actually betting on it. What’s it been? 30,40 years later? And they’re all looking at me for answers. Since Winston has left the series, I gotta tell ya, it’s never been the same. I’ve tried to enjoy it, but after 20 years of disappointment, I’m getting back into my modified series, that I grew up watching at my local track, that was sold to make a shopping mall, back in 81. I’m actually in the market for a nostalgic modified. I’m hoping to get it together, sometime before I can no longer be able to. Just a dream that I had as a kid growing up at a legendary short track, in the northeast
I had to watch this History video 2 times , and may watch it again! The model cat Will built at age 11 I am pretty sure is a MPC brand kit, the 11 was drove by Buddy Baker. Will is 4 years older then myself and I can relate very much as he went through the time lines reviewing history. The beginning and end of the video shows the Harry Gant Monte Areo Coupe , the broken dreams car. This car and a few others made me grin because they Are what they Are. I am in disbelief that we live in times where History is to be erased. Through the years I have seen more then a few of the show cars, and here is the story of how Will probably had something to do with what I seen. Glad to see the " To Be Continued" to this story and more. The paint scheme change years that started with The Winston and the Silver 3 and all of the diecast replicas that followed. Thank You Again for all of the Video/Edit work to bring us the History !

@@Stapleton42Thank you for what you do. Guys like you make this sorry modern world a better place.
Can’t believe I watched this entire thing. I just couldn’t stop.
Hope you enjoyed it!! You’d probably like our other videos too
Thank you for doing such a deep dive on this museum. The one time I was in town, they were closed for Labor Day, so I'm glad to be taking this tour vicariously.
Thank you Brock I am glad you enjoyed this
What a nice historion that man is very well spoken..
Shame about the museum however this was a super interesting piece to watch.
It's Clay Millican! One helluva drag racer!
The history of NASCAR needs to be preserved. Why would anyone think otherwise?
Ask Winston Company that question since they decided to go after this man. Nascar should be backing him and its pethetic they wont. look at management in nascar it makes sense, pure garbage.
A lot of those car's are stepping stones that opened the door for NASCAR to race venues such as the Brickyard and beyond. What you all do is appreciated.
thank you Alan!
That thunderbird was beautiful ,,, old school just as i like it !!!
Say it isn't so! Stock car racing blossomed more during the Winston era than any other time!
Awesome video but def a sad story!!
Thats awesome lol
Awesome to hear
No fear!
Indy native here, this is AWESOME to see and heat all the stories, and seeing the cars.❤️❤️❤️
This is so amazing and sad. I wish I knew about this place! Thank you for digitally preserving it and thank you to Will for putting the collection together and all his (and his team's) contributions to NASCAR!
Man that Sunbird is so cool.
That #11 model Will built was driven by Buddy Baker at Rockingham in 1971.
Great job Mitchell!
What a fantastic video! His knowledge combined with the cars absolutely generates a wealth of NASCAR history!
Well this was really interesting and at the same time very sad to watch. NASCAR seemed to start sliding after RJR left in 2003. Very sad to see this museum sold at auction--so many stories and pieces of history that will be lost when it is no longer together. Thanks for sharing!
Heart breaking to see the emotions come out. You can tell he put his life into this.
I hope he is able to get back to collecting history.
Thank you for sharing these videos.
Love this man and his passion.
I have a friend that has an Earnhardt car, complete with a rcr power plant. It’s really cool to look it over
Great video. Absolutely sad that this man's dream is being brought to an end. And that 43 pontiac aero coupe is sick!
Thanks for introducing his story to everyone. For those who don't know about him, he truly loves this sport, and it's a shame what has happened.
All of these cars look fantastic. Being a old school fan I appreciate your passion for the sport.
thanks man! we are glad you're here
DarWal closed during the 1998 season. He had signed a deal with a sponsor that fell through. The last offical race for them was the 1998 Southern 500 in a Tim Flock Paint Scheme.
Thank you Will and Stapleton for doing this for us fans and racecar enthusiasts
I was so glad to see to be continued at the end, all I could think about while watching this was it's not enough, an hour 19 isn't enough, and I was so happy to find out there's more. Thank you so friggin much. You are an absolutely amazing person for what you do.
I feel like I’m a kid again watching the history channel but for nascar! So cool, keep it up🤌🏼
thanks man!!
AS i have stated before, you two keep raising the bar. I don't know how to say how impressed I am, with your videos.
Thank you so much!
@@Stapleton42 He did lie about painting the walls at Dover in 2000. Bowers Signs has always painted the walls at Dover.
That was a great episode ! I own 2 88 Tbirds, and it was really cool to see them in show trim ! You are doing a great job passing on this history, keep up the good work !
That’s awesome!
Great video. History is disappearing before our very eyes.
Seeing that number 3 Goodwrench car takes me back in time. This is amazing the history and stories are great. I'd give anything to go back in time to about 1996. The world seemed like such a better place. Thank you for documenting this.
Thanks for being here for it!
Great piece of history, enjoyed the content
Such an interesting conversation. This collection of cars is fantastic. Such a shame that this museum is going to be lost. Thanks to both of you for sharing this content.
Dude i didnt know this place existed. I might have to make the trip before its gone
amazing cars and feel for the guy and all his work. I noticed the Stapleton42 on the banner at the museum.
He made the banner just for the video! Those are all our sponsors!
@@Stapleton42 I was showing this video to my wife to see if she wanted to go with me again before it closes and she saw the banner also on the video. Said look at that! He's on the banner!
She is 10 years younger than me, and I had been going to NASCAR races for years, but she met Dale Sr. when she was like 17 in school and worked some races on weekends in food catering at CMS. They were doing catering, and said Dale Sr. was always a nice guy to all of the wait staff. That shows you the real character of a man, how you treat the hired help.
3 ❤
You guys do such a job on your reporting! I've been to the museum, and it's awesome
So sorry to hear it's going away
It's sad to know what this man has been put through these last few years trying to keep his dream alive. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours. Thanks again for another great video, this is the best channel on RUclips! :-)
Thanks man that means a lot!
Thank You for doing this! Will is my boss and he rocks! A lot of blood equity in these cars . You rock by doing this!
lifetime subscriber here !
Have you considered a coffee table book of pictures and stories of all you visited?
And what a sad tale. This guy lives nascar. Nice to hear his stories and see the great cars.
I’ll write multiple books one day that’s for sure
It's a heaven! 18' Monte-Carlo ❤❤❤ lot of 90's NASCAR look very well.
Hey Mitchell, you and Logan again to the fantastic job with this Winston Cup museums final days? Makes me sick that he's losing that museum. But anyway, you guys did a fantastic job of going down memory lane with these cars. As well as getting into detail, which I thought was awesome because I love that shit. Keep up the good work brother
thanks man!
Thank you Mitchell & Logan for this video. It's a travesty that this place has to close. I went there once and always meant to go back. I hate that I won't be able to now.
I jumped on this channel because of the *LSXCALADE* and drag racing (years ago)... Now i am here BECAUSE of the History lessons, the knowledge, and the passion/beauty of the past of MOTORSPORTS!
You 2 have become THE PREMIERE channel of research and historians of the love of Motorsports!
As a 3rd generation, 30yr drag racer, I am in love with EVERYTHING yall are doing for Round Track (NASCAR) these days.
Thank you Charley! We are glad you are here for it all, we should be doing some car building again starting in January!
Thanks man we appreciate that. Not many like you who are into both facets of video topics!
Such a shame this irritates me to no end I have been smoking winston products for years I remember getting sample packs in the infield at Talledega. I think we should boycott winston products it can be done look what happened to bud light this is ridiculous and they should be punished I will be switching as soon as I find another brand I know I should quit but been with it this long a little late to make lifestyle change but they need to get over this it is history.
I am pushing toward 80 l want thank you for a awesome HISTORY of your cars your have sorry to hear the museum is closing best wishes and thanks again for the memory’s
Lloyd Asbury of A/W Modelcraft was his last co. now 92 and retired south of the border! I have lots of toys!
Wow that’s awesome! Do you have any of those original carvings?
@@Stapleton42 Once they were sent to China, we never see them after. keep up the good work that you are doing, these good old boys seem to warm up to you, and it's so cool to see, BTW My first car was a 65 Mustang.
doing the motorsport gods work here yall
Thanks man
Got my Shirts thank you guys so much for the post card and the candy canes!! I will always continue to support guys like you I love the details and hard work you put in to everything I'd rather put it towards helping guys like you than giving it to these big bad corporations!! Whenever you guys get some more 3x hoodies in I'll definitely be getting one thanks again!!
Thanks man!! We appreciate you
Went here in 2019.
I have hope for a better future
A big thank you to Mr. Spencer for your time, talents & service for preservation of the history of NASCAR.
Imagine hating a museum. Who the hell does that?
@49:54 "We are doing the best we can" You are doing damn GOLD, This Is a STOUT channel TYVM! They are a responsible people with a good cause here. I can say myself 115%, Never watched one video on this channel that was never worth my time. LOVE IT! Ive stated before and Ill state again, Im with this channel.......44444444444-Liiiifffffeeeeeeeee *Holds Fist In Air*
Thanks man we really appreciate it 💪🏻
@@Stapleton42 thank you!!!
Thanks man. I’m glad you picked up on that
Excellent video once again Stapleton. I really wish I could visit this place. I would be here all day looking at all this awesome Winston Cup history. It is very unfortunate about what is happening to this place. It really is a shame this poor guy has to go through this. I'm glad you got this place documented on video. Well done man. 👍
Thanks man
@@Stapleton42 You're welcome 👍
I've probably said it before, but thank you guys for all you do too preserve the history of the sport. Witnessing this journey has been epic, keep on pushing to uncover these untold stories.
I stop the video to say THANK YOU!!!. I’m a NASCAR fan since 2000 when I accidentally saw a race and was like wtf is this lol. I have enjoy it ever since that day. I live in cali and we do not have museum like this sad to see this museum but happy you are showing this and I’m able to see the history which I’m amazed and wish I saw more old school racing because it’s fantastic how the old cars look and how they used to drive those car. Keep up the good work and one day I’ll visit one of those museums and see it for myself
Damn it man 😅 the end of that bout made me cry LoL...💯🏁
I sure wish I knew of this place, would have loved to visit it. Thank you for doing this video to show off his collection and hear his story. Shame those cars have to part ways, probably the last time some will look that good.
my friend lives a few blocks down from this place. I pass by it several times a month. I'll miss seeing that dodge daytona in the window :(
It is sad this museum is closing so much legendary history in one places. I believe Buddy Baker drove the 11 car in 1971. Thanks again for another great video.
I agree completely. Thanks Will!
Really neat!!!! Also seen YOUR Logo on the Big black tarp hanging up in the Warehouse!!! Cant wait for the Continuation Video.
Good video. Its sucks it's closing down . You can tell he loved it. Loved seeing all those cars and hearing him talk about them.
That #11 in 1971 was Buddy Baker in a Petty Enterprises Dodge.
Another heart-wrenching moment in history 😢. Wish there was a way to save the museum.
Thanks for the video, much appreciated and SAVED to my personal favorites. 🙏🏻
Great job Mitch an Logan, its really sad that WS is doing him that way, enjoyed another great part of history thanks to you guys, i dont live to far from WS, have to drop in before he has to close, history being pushed aside, but will not be forgotten, thanks 👍
Having a really talented team with an eye for detail that’s for sure
@44:33 "notice It says "Oldsmoberry" Dang you got me with that one Mitch!!!!!! You got Lucky, I have a very close eye for attention to detail Sir & Mam.
Such of shame I was looking forward to going next year 😢 I can’t believe it
This shit is fascinating to me haha …you and your lady are by far the best NASCAR source in these youtube streets right now.
The full footage from the storage warehouse will be on the stapleton42 extra channel this weekend
Man you gotta do it! Make it happen 💪🏻
Compelling history, moving story. Well done.
What?!? I can not believe that NASCAR themselves would even allow this to close, this is the golden era of NASCAR, what a shame
Thank you Steve!
Great stories! Amazing how much “behind the scenes” stuff he was doing.
Yes it was!
So glad you do these stories about the older guys and the car history. You do a great job
Just wow we should not be losing a place in history like this my first year championship winner was the under dog long live Winston cup at least I'm my eyes
