Walked that museum several times with my dad. Talladega was our yearly trip. Haven’t been to Dega since 2016. That was out last time going due to my dad passing in 2017. Taladega Superspeedway, the museum, and the short track are all bucket list things to do. That track means so much to me. I always felt home down there. Been there 11 times and each time it felt like the first time. It’s like a piece of me is left every time I had to leave.
I recently went here this summer. I carried my 4 year old son there for the 1st time. That 8 car has quite the history it won the spring and fall race of 2002. I saw the car race in the spring of 2002 when he won. In 2004 I took a trip to DEI and got my picture made with the car in the museum at DEI when I was 18. When I went back to the hall of fame this summer I got my picture with me and my son in front of the car. He now has the diecast of that car. If you look closely to that car there’s no engine in it. That engine Dale Jr has it was gave to him by Richie Gilmore who was the engine builder for the 8 car during that time. The 31 Neil Bonnett car also has quite the history at Daytona and Talladega. I remember seeing that car qualify back in 93. I always thought it was a great looking car.

I stopped by the IMHOF museum in January 2020 and it was incredible. My two favorite things to see where Bobby Allison's 1988 Daytona 500 winner and Buddy Arrington's #67 Chrysler Imperial. The 1988 Daytona 500 was the first race I saw on TV. I was four years old and watched it, mesmerized, at my grandparents' house. I still remember seeing Bobby and Davey finished 1 - 2. Being and old Mopar fan I always appreciated that Buddy stuck with them all the way through 1985, so seeing his Imperial was a real treat. Very few Dodge/Chrysler cars ran after the 1981 downsize so it's a really rare example for the museum to have. I even got a bit under the car to take pictures of the suspension. It had the old Chrysler leaf spring/torsion bar setup and was one of the last cars to run in Cup with a suspension like that.

I've been to that museum during the spring Talladega race in 2021 and 22. Those cars are so cool. To know the story behind them and that these people actually drove them and you are standing next to them.
I walked through that museum about 10 years ago. I was at the speedway that day for the Dale Jarret driving experience they had going then. We drove up the night before so we were about 3hrs early for the driving part. Which in itself was awesome. We drove with 5 of us on the track at a time and I had a lap of over 170mph. Hardest part for me was getting out of the pit box and rolling. I stalled it twice lol. But, that did not take anything away from the intense, overwhelming feelings walking through the museum. So much to take in. I am sure it is larger now too. They even had a DeLorean there when i walked through it. Very cool you two went through there and were able to film.
When I want to watch quality NASCAR videos I'm come to this channel before any other channel. Dude I love when museums take cars right off the track/victory lane and still has the dirt/tire marks all over it. I hate seeing them cleaned up

This place holds great memories for me! Would go to one or both of the Talladega races almost every year with my dad. Tomorrow will be 12 years since he died…. We took a trip once just to the museum and were about the only people around. Dad put me inside several of these cars and took my picture. Lol. Sure he wasn’t supposed to, but now it’s such a cool memory. Thanks for all the content and the great work y’all do!
I really love seeing all these old Nascars.. I grew up in the 90s watching most of if not all these cars. My grandpa had an old oval shaped rug, and he'd have the nascar races on and I'd be watching, listening and racing my little Hotwheels diecast Nascars around his oval rug.
The Michael Bristol crash car was built by a friend of mine Ronnie Silver in his shop in Asheville,NC. Michael was always thankful to Ronnie for building a car that kept him safe. I remember seeing it live on tv that day. To see Michael sitting in a golf cart minutes later being interviewed on ESPN was mind blowing.

FREAKIN' AWESOME GUYS!!! Not a week or 2 goes by that I'm not recommending your channel to others. Way back in '82 ( I was 20 yrs old ) through '84, I had one of the sweetest '66 SWB Chevy PU trucks ( full custom cab/fleet-side bed ) you ever saw, that had those chrome steel Broad Custom mag wheels. The truck had totally been restored less than 2 yrs before I bought it from a co-worker. His brother-in-law restored it. He replaced the original 283 with a small journal 327, double-hump heads w/2.02 valves, double-roller timing chain, Holley 4" intake & 750 single pumper, headers & duel exhaust with cherry bombs. Truck still had the original 3.73 posi rear-end. He painted it with the original factory Nassau Blue metal flake paint they used to paint some of the Corvettes from that era. The thin panels between the split chrome down the sides was white, making them look kind of like "racing stripes" on top of that beautiful blue paint. Looked like it belonged parked right next to a '66 Stingray of the same color & stripes. Still had the factory options sticker inside the glovebox door, revealing FACTORY AIR ( Chevy put the AC in the dash plus 4 globe/socket vents, the truck didn't come with an ashtray in it, must've been custom ordered, but of course the AC compressor was absent from the 327 hot rodded engine ), panoramic cab ( big rear glass ), and factory tinted glass NOT "tinted film". He even restored the wood in the bed. My room-mate and I painted the interior steel dash/roof/doors, etc, with the closest matched paint we could find. The truck was gorgeous and ran real strong too. Lord, I was a fool for selling it way back then. To this day, I have yet to see another one in person that came with factory AC in the dash.
The Waltrip crash @ Bristol was nuts. I’ve been to the museum to see the car & pictures or video just doesn’t do it justice!! Michael is a tall gent & the fact he walked away is crazy let alone not being killed!! Great vid y’all, keep em comin
I love these videos! Honestly, I appreciate commentary from both of you because your passion for this stuff shines through it. I'll definitely have to check this museum out someday. SPEAKING of rare cars. If y'all ever come across anything relating the the Chevy Beretta's short-lived foray into NASCAR, please film it!
"Sounds like a real Saab story".LOL!!! Nice video. They've added many things since I was there in 2002. The Tiny Lund 1964 #55 Ford Galaxie is one of my favorites there. I saw him race it back in the day as my first NASCAR race was in 1963. He was sponsored by Hallmark Homes of Augusta, Georgia, and I lived in Augusta for a while back in the day. The Bobby Allison airplane and the speedboat deserve a better display and care.
Been there many times. That AMC matador was a bad mamajamma ! The white Trans am pace car outside ,Elmo Langley took me and my dad around the track in 79 w.o.t. .
There’s a good video on RUclips about the Ricky Craven flip from 96 with Jerry Punch. It’s real good to listen to the Dale Jr Download after hearing about how hurt he really got in that wreck.
When I was in highschool I worked for a company that built the wheels for Bobby Allison's cars in the mid 70s. I try to visit the museum every couple years since I only live an hour and a half away. Thanks for another great video!
@@Stapleton42 Broad Wheels Oneonta Alabama The owner started the business in his back yard, I think in the late 60s or early 70s ,taking four wheels cutting them in half and making two wide wheels for farmers to put bigger rear tires on their trucks to hall more weight to the farmers market in Birmingham. It grew into a large operation making custom steel wheels. I personally sanded and buffed and prepped to be chrome plated , 12 wheels for the show cars exactly like the ones on the first Matador you saw in the museum .
We were there last year when the Dale Jr and waltrip cars were unveiled Mikey was in the museum walking around talking to ppl very cool to see him go revisit the Bristol crash car I love the fact they had other forms of racing cars inside not just nascar
Great video, brings back memories from my visit there back in 1997. Good to see they have added cars to the museum over the years. Glad to see that a lot of cars are still there, that I saw in person.
I’ve been here a few times, and what I love about it is that every single time I go they add something new. I know this footage is over a year old but I hope the new stuff, like the DEI cars, are there when I go back in hopefully 2023! I haven’t been there since pre-COVID. I’ll probably cry if I see that Dale Jr car because I grew up playing NASCAR Thunder 2003 and that #8 car was always up front, especially at Daytona and Talladega!
This is the content RUclips deserves. What an amazing place for fans of years gone by in NASCAR. And that Waltrip crash car...wow. And to think this video seems to showcase a small amount of what's there. Great stuff.
Just now watching, I’ll probably never get there, but you bringing it to us is awesome. Thank you Mitchell for all these videos on the history of NASCAR. It’s never boring. I’m really excited about you going back to the track and sending us racing content.
Joey should run a throw back to the Fireball 22, to pay homage to the 1962 season! That would pull some old fans heart strings! We need more history pumped back into the sport! Thanks for your part! Taking the reins and leading the way! You guys may not know it but you are becoming part of the sport by video logging the history and stories that would be lost in time! You are earning your spot in the hall in my opinion! Keep up the hard work and we will be behind you every day!
I was at the Talladega race in October of 2002, It was so great watching Dale Earnhardt Jr. Win a race for the first time in person. In October of 2022, I went to the Talladega race to celebrate my 43rd birthday and saw the car in person. A few months later I was able to purchase the 1:24 scale version of the car. My next mission is to try to get Dale Jr's signature on it.

Also, take a moment to talk to the lady at the front desk, she knows her stuff and she's got some great stories!

I went to Darlington like 20 years ago with my grandma who lived in SC. It was the middle of the summer and it was during a weekday and they had the gate open right before turn 3 and visitors were allowed to walk on the track. It was super cool being 14 years old and getting to actually lay down on the track and get my picture taken. They had a little museum there as well and if I remember correctly they had DW’s number 17 wrecked Daytona car in there..pretty neat. Thanks for all of these videos!
It’s been 15 plus years since I last visited that place and wow it has changed. When I was a kid in the late eighties and early nineties I went every year for the July dega race. I can’t wait to take my son to the museum.
This is the kind of stuff I like. As you said back when stock cars were stock cars. I have toured the museum at Darlington a bunch of times down through the years. They have a big collection of illegal items found on some famous cars.
The Piper Aircraft Dodge from Nascar Thunder 2003 and 2004 which was used for Bobby Allison's representation in the game also had those colors on that plane.
I know I comment this all the time so here I go again…Another great video on racing history ! keep up the great work Mitchell and Logan love your channel !

I have that jet black attack Dale Sr shirt, it is mostly faded now. I was 14 at Dale’s last win that year. We had tickets but someone gave my dad better ones so we tried to sell the worse seats on site. 2 guys in their 20s and a little buzzed already wanted to buy them but didn’t have the cash with them and needed to use a ATM, but the ATM’s were only inside the admissions gate. We let them use the tickets to get in, they asked where our seats were and asked who my favorite driver was. We told them and they set off to find the ATM, we went to our seats. About 30 mins later they came to us with the money and gave me that shirt for trusting them enough to get in the gate to get the money. One of the things I’ll never forget about talladega.
I came here in July, after I got a chance to be toured around the track, it was incredible to see all these cars that some I watched as kid race around others I learned about it was incredible, also the staff can’t say anything bad at all lovely people

I watched the Bristol Busch race on TV on Saturday, and drive to the Sunday race the next day. It was incredible to see the pictures on TV where you could see MW's legs sticking out the front of the car. And what was more incredible was MW race in the cupo race the next day.

Great video. On Michael Waltrip's DEI car, the clear tape is used to smooth out the areas you pointed out from hammer marks for tire clearance. I crewed in the ARCA series with the late James Hylton and we had done that before because in making the body as slick as possible, the tolerances were too tight and the tires rubbed inside the body. They did that because is quicker than using bondo and lighter than bondo.

Thanks Guys! I have heard about this place! So cool your showing us! Hope you guys had the happiest of Thanksgiving!
Thanks Dennis 💪🏻
How Michael survived that is amazing.
Car was a pretzel.
And thanks to the museum. Sound etc.
Neat to see unrestored cars in the video.
Thank you.
Watch Mike Harmony Bristol crash. After he hits the crossover Gate like Michael did another car hits his car but luckily not the Exposed Mike Harmon
Interesting what was it called?
@@Stapleton42 Broad Wheels Oneonta Alabama
The owner started the business in his back yard, I think in the late 60s or early 70s ,taking four wheels cutting them in half and making two wide wheels for farmers to put bigger rear tires on their trucks to hall more weight to the farmers market in Birmingham. It grew into a large operation making custom steel wheels. I personally sanded and buffed and prepped to be chrome plated , 12 wheels for the show cars exactly like the ones on the first Matador you saw in the museum .
thanks for showing us that I’ve been to that track many times, but never have gone into the museum
You need to next time! We only showed a little bit of what's in there.
After all these years, that Michael crash still is amazing
I love how these things brings back so many memories for so many people
We were there last year when the Dale Jr and waltrip cars were unveiled Mikey was in the museum walking around talking to ppl very cool to see him go revisit the Bristol crash car I love the fact they had other forms of racing cars inside not just nascar
We are from Michigan, my son traveled there and love it!! Now his mother wants to go!!
Been to that museum so many times. They have had some cool stuff in there over the years.
I remember watching that race with Michael Waltrip.
It was crazy seeing him hit that open wall.
Great video, brings back memories from my visit there back in 1997. Good to see they have added cars to the museum over the years. Glad to see that a lot of cars are still there, that I saw in person.
Thanks for tour. Good chance I will never make it there but you made it happen for me. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Benny!
That game was the first one I had when I got a ps2. No telling how many hours were spent on there 😂
This is the content RUclips deserves.
I’m really excited about you going back to the track and sending us racing content.
thanks man its coming!
Hi Mitch and Logan Thank you for the video. I was surprised there were not more superbirds there. Wouldn't be cool just to jump in one and drive it.
Hell, borrow the actual car!! Probably faster than anything he ever drove!
#9 car literally blew the field away that day. What an awesome race and performance by awesome Bill from Dawsonville!
@@Wilcox3 I was there in fall 2000 seeing Dale Senior win his last at Talladega
How do y'all manage to keep 1 upping yourself.....Another excellent tour of history.
Thank you so much!!
Thanks for sharing. I remember all these cars . Good to know we’re there at.
I freaking love this channel. The information you guys find out and the things you get to see are so cool. You're exploring all these time capsules of a great era in the motorsport we all love.
A coworker and I are constantly talking about your videos, so I'm ordering him and I sticker packs for our toolboxes.
Thanks for doing what you do.
PS! You guys should come see some racing at Highland Rim Speedway or Nashville Fairgrounds next year. Both in the Nashville area.
Heck yeah! Thanks man. They’re perfect toolbox stickers lol
Love the video thank you for showing this stuff I live in Canada so it is hard for me to go to these places and get to see the history there so thank you again
Man it would be really cool to see some more DEI stuff. Alot of history in that museum. The Richard Petty car wpuld have to be one of my favorite, got goosebumps seeing it knowing he raced in that exact car. Thanks for the content guys, keep kickin ass.
Thank you JD
@@Stapleton42 very welcome sir.
This by far is the video I’ve been waiting for!! So much history in that Museum! You guys did a great job on this one! Going to this museum is on my bucket list! I need to see that Bill Elliott thunderbird in person
Yes you do!!
If anyone's thinking about paying that museum a visit, plan to spend a lot of time there - I've been there twice, one time making a whole day of it, and I still don't feel like I've seen it all.
Also, take a moment to talk to the lady at the front desk, she knows her stuff and she's got some great stories!
I live in Bristol and I was at the race the day Michael hit the wall in the Kool-Aid car, after he hit the wall it was so eerie, the crowd went quiet, I’ll never forget you could hear a pin drop ! Everyone thought he was dead !
Thanks you for this!!!! I live in California and I don’t get to see stuff like this here wish I can go and see it in person one
You are so welcome!
Hey thanks for the memories! Great video
Our pleasure!
Awesome place, lots of history in that building. Hope that you get to a video with the Allison's that would be a great video 😃😃😃👍👍👍🤞🤞🤞
Definitely part of NASCAR’s 75th anniversary celebration !
I love the interview with MW after the Bristol crash he said " I have some contusions and a bit of confusion"
I've got to say that even though I'm not even remotely a Cup racing fan I'm a huge history fan and the stuff you're doing is great.
Awesome content.. I wish Nascar was as relatable now.
The Piper Aircraft Dodge from Nascar Thunder 2003 and 2004 which was used for Bobby Allison's representation in the game also had those colors on that plane.
Oh dang I remember now!!
Newell is what brought me to your channel. Touring these museums is keeping me here. :)
Glad you're here man!
I know I comment this all the time so here I go again…Another great video on racing history ! keep up the great work Mitchell and Logan love your channel !
Youre the man Tim
I like seeing all of the old race cars 👍 I love Michael Waltrip 💗 I'm Michael's biggest fan ❤️
Love, love, love your videos! Your content are the drivers and race teams I grew up watching in the 1970s and 1980s! Keep it coming!
i can never get enough of these videos, they always seem to end to soon hahaha
I have pictures of the 02 EA Sports 500. It was my first race and I was 8 years old. I was on the front row just past the start finish line. Seeing that car just brought back so much nostalgia. I'm so glad it's still in its original condition. That whole day was epic.
Wish I could have witnessed a superspeedway race pre 2008
@@Stapleton42 Man, just the amount of people, the way the cars sounded, the whole energy of the place was something special. I really appreciate the content you're doing by the way. Your enthusiasm for the history of various teams, drivers, and the technical side of the sport is really great to see. It's authentic and it's highly appreciated.
Can’t get enough of this stuff! Good job Mitchell & Logan!
For someone in the UK, like me, chances are I'll never get a chance to visit these places. unfortunately. Thankyou for your continued hard work bringing us this content. Much love
Thanks man! maybe someday!
20:00 The fact that Mikey only got a slight headache and had a decent career after that crash is nothing but a miracle.
I don't know I missed this 12 days ago,but sure glad I saw this. This is epic!!
Thanks man!!
Good stuff guys! Been over twenty years since I’ve been to that museum.
Talladega will always be a special place to me. It's the last trip I got to make with my Dad--RIP Dad miss you. Thx
Wow thats awesome. Good people thats for sure
That blue Buddy Baker Charger must have been making an insane amount of power if they didn’t care about taking all that extra weight out.
I came here in July, after I got a chance to be toured around the track, it was incredible to see all these cars that some I watched as kid race around others I learned about it was incredible, also the staff can’t say anything bad at all lovely people
That’s awesome
I love your museum tour videos! So cool. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you like them!
I grew up about a half hour from the museum so we would go all the time. That place is amazing and that place has grown so much. Im not sure they still do the track, but do it you get the chance.
You guys should do a tour of the history of trucking museum at i80 truck stop at Walcott ia
That sounds pretty interesting
@@Stapleton42 if you ever go to Knoxville its on the way
I would most definitely get lost in this museum for sure, love the video, keep them up
I watched the Bristol Busch race on TV on Saturday, and drive to the Sunday race the next day. It was incredible to see the pictures on TV where you could see MW's legs sticking out the front of the car. And what was more incredible was MW race in the cupo race the next day.
Great vidio!! I did not know that Scott Stovall (the 0 car) was in there I know Scott very well and worked on cars that ran against him in ARCA and him and my home town track Bear Field Speedway in Fort Wayne Indiana that is now closed. Scott is now a truck driver and before I retired I also worked on the truck he drove. I am very surprised that Teresa donated cars to the museum it doesn't sound like something she would do But for the sake of history I am very glad she did.
Thank you for the video Great job!!!
Thank you Richard! The DEI cars are on loan. Hopefully they will be cycled out for some other ones someday. She has several great cars perfectly stored there
Another great video of a place I would not ever had seen. Thanks guys.
Our pleasure!
I always loved that gold and white Bobby Allison Miller car as a kid and even now!💗💗
Thanks for putting Butch Hartman's Charger on here. The pride of Zanesville Ohio. I got to know him later in his life when he was running dirt late models. Really a fun guy when you got to know him.
I love painted chassis' too. Definitely cool of Teresa to loan out the cars.
Interesting!
Love the video I also would love to see you guys do a video at the Winston museum at Winston Salem
We want to!
Another great video! Definitely enjoyed seeing all the cars!
