I had the same experience with Dutch. Word order was so hard, but after reading 2 books in Dutch it was much easier because i was exposed to it so much more.
@ literally that’s exactly how it was. Now it doesn’t feel backwards haha. I read my first book about two months ago, and now I can finally have semi fluent conversations with my friends, and I’m noticing more and more the word order just flows, instead of having to think of every sentence I say. I also read Harry Potter en en de Stein der Wijzen. It helped so much that I knew the context and plot. Then I read Kruistocht in Spijkerbroek by Thea Beckman. The first 1/3 was very difficult but by the second half I was starting to really understand it. I think reading different types of books really helps expand the way you can think or feel with a language.
Je kunt trots zijn op hoe ver je al bent gekomen en hoe goed je al Nederlands spreekt! Er zijn Nederlandse mensen die het niet zo goed kunnen als jij 😉 En wees niet te streng voor jezelf, het hoeft niet perfect te zijn. Wij Nederlanders zijn allang blij dat iemand onze moeilijke taal wil leren 😂 Leuke video’s maak je! Je bent een aanwinst voor Nederland 😊

In my humble opinion, the translator of the Harry Potter books was a genius. It's probably not the easiest Dutch for beginners, but it is really well done.

Als je een lange samenstelling te moeilijk vindt om uit te spreken, kan je dat oplossen door de samenstelling op te breken. In plaats van "woordvolgorde" kan je ook zeggen "volgorde van de woorden". Chronological order = chronologische volgorde.
@EstelleLearnsDutch Misschien ook leuk voor jou om te weten als Française: Het Nederlands heeft een genitief precies zoals het Frans, je kan ook zeggen: volgorde der woorden (ordre des mots) Je zal ons een genitief alleen niet zo snel uit vrije wil horen gebruiken. We hebben op school geleerd hoe het moet, en gebruiken het alleen als we gedwongen worden.
Grappig dat je het juist saai vindt om een boek te lezen wat je al kent. Voor mij maak het het lezen in een andere taal juist leuker omdat ik minder hoef op te zoeken. Het opzoeken vind ik juist saai😅

Is there a way to get english subtitles? I only get the dutch version when I activate them and I’m too new to dutch to understand what you’re saying but I do think it would be useful information :( Can you tell me the overall recommendations from this video alsjeblieft?

En weer buig ik diep voor je. Let op de woordvolgorde. Bijvoorbeeld aan het eind, "neem ik de tijd om nieuwe woorden te opzoeken". Dat moet zijn "neem ik (de) tijd om nieuwe woorden op te zoeken". Opzoeken is een deelbaar werkwoord. En dan moet je het ook doormidden hakken in de zin, met het (hoofdgedeelte-) van het infinitief helemaal naar achteren. Maar ik zie dat je deze fout al minder maakt dan een paar video's geleden! 🤓

Reading a book in a 2nd language is just too much for me. I tried reading Eragon in Spanish and only learned 2 pages, and that was difficult.
