Oh sh...t, Lol you sounded so surprised. These are great little motors. I am cleaning my carb in my 2 HP. Mine is a 72 used on a canoe as a kid on summer fishing vacations. Now use it to slow troll for salmon in Maine. Tight lines. Those reds and flounder are in trouble.
an easy way to tell the year is look at the model the first number is the hp and the other numbers are the year for example my 1972 johnson 9.5 model is 9R72M
Yes sir, I bought a 9.9 Johnson from a guy in Hilton head. I met over there and he asked if I was interested in a electric trolling motor. He pulled out something wrapped in a trash bag. Well,it was a 2.2 Johnson gas burner. I gave him $75 for it. Got it home, put a little 50:1 in it, I used my drill to start it and after a few seconds, fired up. I feel really bad for not telling the guy who sold it! 🥲😂
They were the best motor ever built

I just got one for free that is locked up. Hoping I can free it up and repair it.
How can I tell what year mine is?
There is a serial number archive on the Evinrude website. Well, at least there was before they went belly up. Haven't looked in a while.
Thanks boss
