How do people have the money to buy so much, that you fill a house? I barely have money for absolute need.

It is like gaining fat you don't notice sometimes
I hope you get an opportunity to make more money soon
Instead of buying clothes to meet people, start buying food for one of those food donation service centers and volunteer to help out. You'll make human contact and also help people who can't even afford the minimum amount of food to eat.
Absolutely! She'd meet more people than she could possibly keep up with AND be helping others which would make her feel so good!
The British hoarders are so polite compared to their surly American counterparts.
Like that was polite to say?
It’s true. I’m American & I agree 💯!!!!
Our hoarders are so entitled & absolute nightmares to deal with.
And somehow their hoards are just a bit tidier than American hoards.
I think a huge part of it is, it seems like on this show, the hoarders have already done the hard work of therapy and coming to terms with it. By the time the show starts filming, they're ready to let go. Where in the US version of the show, the hosts don't care one bit about the mental health of the people, they just want drama for TV. So they come in and start throwing everything away and the hoarders aren't mentally ready to be on that step yet. But it makes for good, trashy TV.
"Why am I keeping this?!" BRAVO...I loved that moment of healing.
The hoarding specialist was so wonderful, patient and kind. He was a breathe of fresh air.
There is often a loss or trauma that triggers it.
I work for a disabled woman who never goes anywhere, unfortunately, but Dr appointment maybe once a month if that. Yet she addicted to online shopping for clothes. She never wears anything but her pajamas. She even buys hella shoes yet yet physically is unable to wear them.
The shopping is filling avoid but she doesn't see it. I try to get her to go out, to at least have places to go to wear the clothes. But she wants nothing to do with it.
It's a sense of normality for her, I guess. She must be feeling the emptiness in her life. Buying stuff must keep her occupied, so she doesn't feel something she doesn't want to. Instead of telling her, what she should do, help her to get a hobby. Maybe making things with wool? Like small carpets? With a punching needle? It's easy to manage. She can make gifts and get appreciation. Or she could paint, maybe painting with numbers (don't know how it's called).
@@elale8016 I have tried and tried. It's to the point she gets upset if you try to get her into anything. She's just really depressed and refuses help.
I couldn’t live like that. I’m trying to get rid of stuff now.
I think it might help if the person was taken out of the home for a month and the house was left exactly as they left it. While they are away they can be taken in supervised trips to the shops etc and given the tools to resist buying. Then take them back to their home so they can see it with fresh eyes
Yes
Run away
Start over
Take nothing
Go
Hoarding is a mental illness. The cause and the clutter need to be addressed or within a short time....all the clutter comes back.
Uncomfort can be way more compelling than guilt, let's hope she is keeping up the good effort!
Good luck to everyone!
What a difference, compared to hoarders here in the States! American hoarders come up with all kinds of bizarre reasons why they keep things. Not to mention, they are rude and argumentative.
@Lokisqueen22 This lady Jan could have had a meltdown if she'd been pushed too hard and too fast. I sense that they structured their work operations very effectively. Where the client mainly hears the lead man's voice. And the other fellas are the worker bees. No loud voices from them, no disrespect. They also identified which zones of the house would have the most impact for her, after a decade of being buried under all the bags, and goods. I think some of the shame would have been taken away by that team as well.
It’s how the program sets them up, to an extent
News flash - many hoarders ARE dirty!!
She can have a big yard sale!
Can’t relate I notice my hoarding right away lol
Most of these hoarders are shopping at 'used' stores where things are only a few dollars.
Thank you.
I 💕 retail therapy too 😅! But I am not a hoarder..
What do you do with all of it?
she could have just started with that empty cardboard box sitting on the top of the heap. just recycle it.
Another to rescue with great caring people's. ❤
People with "clutter blindness" have a higher tolerance for disorder and piles of stuff. They're not actually blind, but they just don't see; it doesn't register in their mind. I only discovered that I had this problem by watching "hoarders." Something seemed familiar... YIKES!
Therapist needs to be there to process the way that the hoarder is thinking... Or emotions running through them. I think that's the hard part...
I think the ppl a across the pond handle things better. THey actually help ppl and not lable them as much as we do in the states
Джениз очень милая.😊
She didn't notice it until there was a consequence? She noticed it...of course they noticed it.
its the same with alkaholiks, I did not notis how much I drak before I lost my job and bf because of my drinkinng! I honestly dident think twise about the fact that I drank tequila just as easily as I drank water, it just dident register!
Please be more understanding of addicts, often we dont see the problem before something gose terrible wrong.
Im glad she was able to get help before her home burned down
@@Ohhhwehere I am assuming you're sober now from what you wrote, and the very best to you. I agree, be more understanding of others and not judge.
No family or friends to help?
She doesn't want help
Congratsss❤🎉🎉
Is it just me or do English hoarders seem to have tidier hoards?
Tidier and cleaner, it seems.
I'm starting into this myself... I think ingestion matters alot, a proper diet with loads of fresh salad and recycling. I'm not sure why reminds me of Pica
Having guests to visit and see yourself matters loads. I may volunteer in this someday.
