These are my shoes. I can hardly wait to get them back. I have loved these shoes for 20+ years, and I have walked many thousand’s of miles in them. I could not bear to part with them. They are part of my soul. Hahaha. I am happy to pay for them to be back in perfect shape. Thanks Steve. I am so happy I found you on RUclips. I do have nice healthy feet. Amy
Amy Lindblom hello! I’m curious about your thoughts once you’ve received your shoes back and worn them again. Hopefully you come back to this thread and give us an update. He is so meticulous and thorough, I am just wondering how that translates to the consumer. Hope you love your repairs and have a good day. ☺️
My shoes have arrived at home. I am so happy!!! They are perfect, and so much better than before. But they feel exactly the same on my feet. It’s just weird that 8,267 people have watched my shoes being repaired. I’m not a librarian, as someone thought. I’m a former newspaper reporter, which is when I bought the shoes. Now I’m in a management position with a law enforcement agency. I walk to work, walk around my little town, and walk on the weekends. I’m a walking fool. These shoes have seen several countries and many states in the US. And now they will see many more. I am forever grateful to Steve for his craft, his love of his job and now his handiwork on my shoes. Thank you so much.
So cool, I'm addicted to Steve's channel/work, love reading about you and your shoes! BTW if you could cut/paste this up as a reply to your original comment people may see it better, sometimes they wont' look for it down here. Thanks!
I was amazed at how good your shoes looked after Steve remade them. Also impressed with their shape when sent in, considering they were worn for 20 years and many thousand miles. I'm a big guy at 6'6" and 280 and after 6 months my shoes are destroyed... :-(
You have exceeded what the manufacturer engineered into this pair of shoes...you have returned these shoes to the customer better than when she purchased them new. I'm not sure how much you are appreciated by your viewers, but hand crafting will NEVER go out of style. And for 2019, if I may quote a genuine craftsman 'alright, let's continue...'
Nice video Steve! Enjoyed seeing the recrafting of a Blake stitched rubber sole shoe. That recrafting job returned those Mephistos to like-new condition. I'm sure the owner will be thrilled and proud to wear.
In the 60s, in my teen years, I wore loafers. If they were cheap, I would resew the soles back on. Watching you restore these shoes and such, reminds me of those days. You have the machines to truly do a fantastic job. All the tools in the world are useless if you don't know how to use them! You know how! You must have a passion for shoe repair. Shoes, like other things, get used and abused and thrown away. Even if they are quality, expensive shoes. Like other trades from the past, shoe repair has almost disappeared. It is great to see there are a few cobblers left. You are truly a gift! Happy 2019 and I will be watching for your next post! Thanxz
So glad to see a pair of ladies' shoes featured, and once again, beautiful job, great workmanship and you made them better than the original manufacturer did. Your videos are, as another person commented, addictive. I will say that I think it's unfortunate that women's shoes in general--even the expensive ones--are made so much more cheaply than men's shoes. The manufacturers cutting corners and skimping on quality seems to be the norm with ladies' shoes. Thankfully you're around to make sure they last a long time.
I enjoyed this video very much. We have become such a throwaway society and it saddens me. It was lovely to see you bring new life into a much loved pair of shoes. Regards Rowena.
I've lost count of the times that said " I wish I would have bought two pairs (or more) of those shoes". It is sad when a pair of old friends have to go to the bin. I've never considered having radical restoration work work like this done before. I certainly will now ! An excellent channel by a person who has passion for his craft. Thanks or sharing your great skills.
An amazing job. In the 13 years that I have been a shoe cobbler, some of the things that you said on this video I didn't even know. Thank Steve. S.R.I.
You can't do better than a totally satisfied customer. What I love is that you made the extra effort to structurally improve her beloved shoes to last longer and cost much less to repair when they need to be resoled again. I'm not sure they make them like you any more. Thanks for sharing your craft (which should be a master class itself) with us.
This may be the most impressive video yet. Most people would consider this type of shoe as a throw away design, and Steve has made them into very high quality shoes.
I just got my first pair of Loake Oxfords that I am going to wear on my wedding this year. I hope they're going to serve me many years to come and once they would need to get restored, I'm going to come across a true craftsman who is going to take care of my shoes like you do. I'm impressed of your skills, passion and attention to details. Keep up the amazing work! Greetings from Poland!
Thanks for the comment about polyurethane breaking down after about 5-6 years. That explains why an expensive New Balance walking shoes failed at the side of the heels after 5 years. Planned obsolescence I guess. (They were so comfortable, I bought replacements.)
First of all your videos are the only ones on RUclips that I watch with a note pad. I note the leather treatment items and their use. All the leather restoration I do is on 100 year old gun cases. Some of the leather is either crumbling, or missing. I have to try to restore, or replace the parts. I have learned a lot from watching you. Second, the people complaining about the cost are the same ones that want me to make a custom rifle/shotgun stock for $25.00. I have been doing this type of work for over half a century. The buyer is paying for the 50+ years of experience. I would be embarrassed to work for Three cents an hour. Remember the old adage? You get what you pay for in this old world."
Great video! Any chance of making Bedo's Leatherwork T-shirts for the RUclips fans? If you do, you have to add quotes like 'It is what it is.' Or 'You get what you paid for.'
This is helpful in many ways, not least of which is explaining the construction of the average, rather than the custom made, shoes that most people wear. It's a good thing to know.
I really appreciate your videos and style. I haven't done any shoe work yet, but I have been daydreaming for awhile. Your videos are really helpful on the mechanical end. Thanks.
Very nice to watch you work. Craftsmanship will never go out of style. Keep the videos coming. You should consider selling a little merch, like aprons or t-shirts. Can't wait for the next show.
That was a great job. So much work put into a modest shoe, but I understand why people are fussy and get attached to their shoes. I have a pair of Maphisto sandles, never quite fitted me, but were very comfortable. About 20yrs old now. I think your client will be very happy.👍
I so appreciate your craft. I learned a better way to use a cobbler hammer on leather watching you and have. Developed an appreciation for Bardge glue and how you apply it. Thanks for putting these up, I never miss a show. You should get your glue, sole, thread and leather suppliers to sponsor your shows.
$295.00 / 10 years is only $30 bucks a year for a pair of high-quality shoes. Most people spend that on cheap junk import shoes anyways. I say they look great!
Nowadays even moderately priced shoes are relatively well made. I'd rather get a brand new cheaper pair every couple years and donate away the used shoes. Over a decade the cost may be about the same as buying and repairing one expensive pair. But I'm always walking in decent looking shoes with low mileage, whereas you're in raggedy stomps with 10 years between repairs! What's it like on year 6+?
@@recoilman24 not wise in my opinion. The confidence in knowing you're shoes aren't going to fall apart at the least convenient time, plus the hassle of having to find the same or similar shoes, driving, breaking them in etc, makes spending the money on quality shoes well worth it. As always, so much fun and so relaxing to watch. Steve, I love how you show that there is infinity in something like a pair of shoes. I always love watching and learning something even if this has nothing to do with what I do for a living. No matter. Keep going, Steve.
This woman loves these shoes. Maybe they don't make this model, or whatever. So what if they aren't the best shoes you can buy. She is going to be very happy with these familiar but very much improved shoes. They are better than new. These shoes have love in them and they look fantastic.
You are a miracle worker. I had a pair of Brunomagli shoes that I adored. They were the costliest shoes I had ever purchased, but when they finally “wore out” I tossed them in the trash, with much remorse. Only wish I had seen your videos first. They fit my foot like a glove. Still miss them!
