Dude, poor the cold bluing agent into a separate glass container and dip in that with the acid brush. Going back-and-forth to the main bottle contaminated your source. You would've gotten way better results with it. I've turned steel midnight black with the stuff.
amazing to find that the key wasnt actually made for this lock. someone back in the 1800s mustve tried unlocking it with the wrong key by mistake, found that it got stuck, and tossed it, now hundreds of years later youre here restoring the thing, and making that damn key fit lmao.
@coleandclaire4675, actually, this lock could’ve easily been manufactured in the 1800’s. Its style is consistent with myriad locks from that period. Could also be from the 1900’s, but my guess is mid to late 1800’s
Lol that probably is what happened or it rusted the wrong way regardless cool restoration maybe al capone used the wrong key to try to escape and the guards threw the lock out
I don’t think the Lock Picking Lawyer could have opened this one. Great video and I’ve never seen so many cleaning/rust removal methods as you employed here. It’s also interesting to see that no lubricant was used on these locks. Thank you for posting
The long gone blacksmith that made this beautiful lock would have tears of joy if he knew is craft were to be treated with the respect, love and care you gave it You are doing gods work Bless you
I can only begin to imagine what went through your head as you discovered that it was the wrong key! Congratulations on going on and remodelling it to operate correctly. A magnificent restoration all told.
I was fascinated the entire time. I love seeing history restored like this. To think someone spent just as much time making the lock. Working on something for it to just rust away for hundreds of years. Until it was lovingly restored back to what it should be. Great job! Also the key being wrong was fantastic
I understand your passion and curiosity to bring this antique padlock back to life. Your hours of work demonstrate your love for these things and I admire that. Well done sir.
My son was hoping to see the sandblaster , but he was happy when the blowtorch came out . Nice work... a lot of work, but you saved a piece of our past. Thanks.
People back then were very careful about leaving stuff in the right place. When they were done with the lock, they left the key in it, and let mother earth archive it for future use!!!
I'm so glad you kept as much of the original lock instead of just replacing it, it looks fantastic. Nice work with the key, I love the pitting from the rust and honestly it adds more character to the lock.
End result is beautiful. You have an incredible gift. Not just your ability to restore items but also your ability to see the possibilities in items. It’s inspiring
As a registered locksmith of 30yrs this video was very mesmerizing. Great job 👏 we’ve had a couple of these cross our paths at the shop and they are a testament to quality workmanship and functionality
I always wanted a gigantic key that really went to something... Alas, I was to poor to have anything worth locking up.. 😭😭.. 😂. Great job, my friend!! 👏
18:19 a tip for the next time. when you again must to rivet. using with the hammer with a punch. that going much better as only a hammer and the rivet head have a much better look
It's very impressive how you could put that back together after having a pile of parts, especially the spring location. Another great restoration, keep up the good work.
When I look at this, I want to try it. But that is only because you make it look easy. The knowledge that gives you the confidence to do that which is both obvious and impossible is empowering.
initially i was surprised you didnt sand it all down to smoothness, but then i realised that actually gives it more of a charm, and keeps its sense of oldness & personality :D
So a little research I did: Health risks for the amount of rust. It can cause it to become airborne and lead to inhaling the rust dust. Damage due to age, it's old and sand blasting is REALLY abrasive. Degradation of material. If the metal has softened or become brittle overtime, it can cause it to break down or fall apart faster. And, yes, the sand blasting machine is stupid pricey. 1 year late but I hope this helps. ❤
I hope you enjoyed my video! Subscribe to the channel and watch more!

You mean the 1900’s?
It's amazing how something as simple as a padlock, reveals alot about the past.
@coleandclaire4675the 19th century is the 1800s. Commenter was correct.
@coleandclaire4675, actually, this lock could’ve easily been manufactured in the 1800’s. Its style is consistent with myriad locks from that period. Could also be from the 1900’s, but my guess is mid to late 1800’s
Amazing how as I was watching that video, I was grunting with him to get that key out.
You are using a rusty 19th century.Padlock, it can be opened with a rusty nineteenth century padlock
You were thinking what I was thinking!
You just made my good day even better
Exactly just like you are giving instructions with your rusty 19th century old brain😂😂peace
i have read your comment 5 times over and can geniunely not understand a single thing of what you're saying
@thegoldenblob69 There's a RUclips channel about locks. And he bashes the locks together to unlock them
you're telling me the last person to use this lock probably jammed it with the wrong key and just abandoned it in frustration? 😂
Lol
They should have waited around a couple hundred years and called the Lockpicking Lawyer lol
Lol that probably is what happened or it rusted the wrong way regardless cool restoration maybe al capone used the wrong key to try to escape and the guards threw the lock out
Sounds about right
That key has been waiting through Presidential assassinations and lunar landings and the invention of the internet to be freed
You flicked some rust in my eyes
Wdm
Yeah, what do you mean dust? I mean, things cannot come out screaming.
That wasn’t rust 😅
It’s dust rust is a game
Lol well deserved :not really:
i love that it still looks old. you didnt try to sand out all of the imperfections, you simply restored it to be functional again :) i love it
All of that rust work just to be able to open it up and find more rust 😭 you are a brave and patient soul lol
1:41 the forbidden cocoa powder

"And with me today i have a can of WD-40 to aid in unlocking this very rusty padlock of the 19th century-

Nah, he probably would care even if he was one @WannaFindOutMF
I can only begin to imagine what went through your head as you discovered that it was the wrong key! Congratulations on going on and remodelling it to operate correctly. A magnificent restoration all told.
Thank you!
The revelation that the key isn't for this lock at all killed me! Nice work! Very cool to see electrolysis in a restoration video.
Thanks for ruining it.
@corbydinzen5356 You could have watched the video, then read the comments
3:53 IT LOOKS LIKE POOP
Am I the only one who watches these videos until I fall asleep!!?
I do to 😭😭

I bet watching locks like these being locked and unlocked onto old pirate chests would be a nice bit of ASMR.

I absolutely love that you show us the process step by step. No fake sound or cheesy music. Subscribed. ❤
Money money
At 3:54 - I was wondering if there was anything left of the lock 🔒 😂😂
This made me like old locks way more than modern ones, not only are they cooler looking but they also make very nice locking and unlocking sounds.
Unfortunately they are less resistant to the more modern ways of getting past a lock.
Damn! Dis lock work da HELL out his ass! He executed it…drilled it…scrub it…acid bathe it…set it on fire…bam it!
Parents: you just have to do one single chore it’s so simple
The chore:
8:35 sounds like cartman saying noo no no nooo
Another excellent restoration! Old locks have always fascinated me, they were surprisingly, more intricate than I had thought.
٠جج٠
that’s what I thought too. Didn’t know there were so many moving parts inside.
8:31 Damn his mini grinder (ome after smallest) says NOOOOO
I have studied Material Science and Engineering.(It is not what you do,it

i’m not glad he did
@Caroline-ye2jb Ok Caroline
@houseofwonders1 lmfao
But, it's from the 19th century! You'd want it to look somewhat accurate, yes? It's something from history!
From a lockpicking perspective, You`ve made it worse! 🤭
Joking aside, well done! I`d love to own that lock.
dopo aver levato quella chiave sei diventato il mio mito 😁👏👏👏
I think this was the most satisfying restoration I've seen you do! Incredible!!!
You gave a rebirth to this lock..🥰
9:55 my favorite part 👍
End result is beautiful. You have an incredible gift. Not just your ability to restore items but also your ability to see the possibilities in items. It’s inspiring
У меня тоже есть старинный амбарный замок, только ключа к нему уже давно нет. Он такой формы необычной и огромный. Я его храню. Люблю старинное всё.
Just amazing!!! Keep preserving the history !!
Damn would love an explaination of all the steps!
Increible trabajo ! Felicidades !
This lock can get you enough money from Antiques Dealers!
Чоловіче, респект тобі за те що так заморочився з ним, та дійшов до кінця!
Some white vinegar and a few weeks would also do the trick lol😂😂
I love your cinematography. Restoration videos are my top 3, and I gotta say, you’re also at the top! Well done, sir!
I wonder if one of those rust burning lasers would have even touched this thing ?! Nothing left afterwards ? =) GJ !
Beautiful restoration!
Bet Mr McKaye has been looking for that padlock for many years
Wonderful & great video and I’ve never seen so many cleaning / rust removal methods as you employed here.
16:51 I was falling asleep until i heard this shit
Beautiful! From start to finish.I feel inspired… Thank you for this step by step restoration. I was riveted by your work.
How many times I thought it was done, it was done but he was going on and on..god it gave me anxiety. But the end result was beautiful
That was amazing ! I enjoyed every minute. Thanks
I almost raged when he had a good clean spot on there 😅but then he covered it with muddy water
As a registered locksmith of 30yrs this video was very mesmerizing. Great job 👏 we’ve had a couple of these cross our paths at the shop and they are a testament to quality workmanship and functionality
I'm curious, since I'm wanting to become a certified locksmith and the Internet is no help, how do I become a locksmith?
@blood-redeemeddragon I imagine you have to a trade school, like electricians and plumbers
güzel çalışma ama çok uğraşmışsın kumlama diye bir şey var ama genede emeğine sağlıkk :))
FANTASTIC, SUPERB. You are very Talented. That was pleasant to watch.
4:01 looks like the school lunch
Wow! Kudos for the sheer amount of work & time you put into this
12:12 “noooooo num num noooooo-“
Яка давнина!!!Дуже цікаво було дивитися,що в нього в середині і запрацює чи ні!
I love the moment when it spews black liquid and then starts moving. Like you exorcized it, lol.

I always wanted a gigantic key that really went to something... Alas, I was to poor to have anything worth locking up.. 😭😭.. 😂. Great job, my friend!! 👏
Excellent job.👍

Nice work. Thanks for sharing.
Nice.
All I need now is a cell door and some spectral essence.
Супер! Спасибо! Лайк👍
I can't believe you got a padlock from the Titanic. That's so cool!
Great work behind this video
How do you…. IT IS JUST A BLOCK OF RUST!?! Great job dude
It's very impressive how you could put that back together after having a pile of parts, especially the spring location. Another great restoration, keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for watching my videos!
The rust is the history which is flying away with each rub in this modern era...
If only I knew the history of this castle, all these defects on the castle speak about the era of that time
Some of the most intense work I have watched! Great Job!!!!
If you thought that was impressive.....
ruclips.net/video/qixylE1GOWs/video.html
I like how the key was in the lock this home time lol!
Nothing is beyond redemption. That includes us, there's restoration in things and people. Amazing 😍
I like the look rusty better to be honest..But I can appreciate your craftsmanship nonetheless.
I think it cost more than a new lock 😅😂
I was trying to remember where I lost my key since the 19th century.,,Thanks :)))))
When I look at this, I want to try it. But that is only because you make it look easy. The knowledge that gives you the confidence to do that which is both obvious and impossible is empowering.
If this video is encouraging you to try, even on a less complicated scale, then go for it.
The rust pitting gives it some nice character
This old padlock "good fella" gives me MORE security than the new Chinese padlocks crapp...!
initially i was surprised you didnt sand it all down to smoothness, but then i realised that actually gives it more of a charm, and keeps its sense of oldness & personality :D
He does very good work but I would of sanded it.
Patients is the key to a good restoration
Why not sandblast all the rust from the start?
Not everyone has a sandblasting machine
So a little research I did:
Health risks for the amount of rust.
@weylontheweird now 2 years
LMAO@AnthonyTapia-dt8kn
Why not sandblast your brain
Great that you don't use any bondo and didn't polish the thing, it looks natural.
your work is amazing.
Imagine some of that old Russ got in your eyes when he was doing that little thing like brushing it off or whatever and it formed into dust
