Railroad Shoo-Fly & Speeding Train With Roaring DPU, Abandoned RR Crossing, 2 Happy Crews & 5 Trains

- Fast Trains With DPUs, Ex Railroad Shoo-Fly & Abandoned Dangerous Railroad Crossing Revisit. Norfolk Southern Train Crosses Bridge Over CSX Tracks, Steel Coils Train With DPU, Mixed Freights With DPU Locomotives Working Hard. These 5 Trains Are In Kentucky.
I revisited the shoo-fly area in Richwood, Kentucky due to popular demand. This is where they abandoned a couple of dangerous railroad crossings by replacing them with a new railroad overpass. The shoo-fly track was a temporary track around the railroad construction zone but it is long gone. The first Google Map in this video shows the temporary track in place. We also see one of the railroad crossings that was abandoned. The signal equipment is still in place but no longer in use. The first train in this video has a DPU and is passing the location of the once very busy railroad crossing. We also take a quick look at the industrial spur complete with new crossing and a few tank cars stored on it.
Next, we go just a few miles south to where the Norfolk Southern main crosses over the CSX main. I heard a train on the CSX road channel so I went over there but got there too late. The end of the CSX train had just passed southbound but I got lucky and heard a Norfolk Southern train approaching on the radio. We see a southbound NS potash train with a Canadian Pacific locomotive on the rear passing over the bridge about ten minutes after the CSX train passed.
Then, I went a couple more miles south to the Locust Street crossing in Walton and got a loaded steel coils train with a DPU on the rear. This was southbound train #375. While I was in the area I got a northbound gondola train. You can see the train crossing the Church Street crossing. This train has a locomotive that came from BNSF. NS has obtained a bunch of those locomotives through leasing companies since NS had been power short. I have these same locomotives in my videos from Kenova, West Virginia.
The fifth train is an empty grain train headed northbound. It is seen at the Locust Street railroad crossing in Walton. This train has another one of the rebuilt locomotives leading it. This is another one of those DC to AC rebuilds. Notice the conductor waving to me! That was cool and I also got the conductor on the first train to wave to me. 2 Trains in this video have friendly crews waving to me! Is that cool or what?! The Locust Street railroad crossing also has a CSX track with cross buck protection but I didn't catch any CSX trains there. Temps were in the mid 30 and a couple of times the sun started to come out.
I found out from a viewer that ERMS Rail is from EVRAZ Corp. It is a world wide corporation.

Thank you, Jaw Tooth, for taking us back to Ringwood, Kentucky to see what is currently happening at the location of the former shoo-fly that was used when the new railroad bridge was built. The location of the abandoned vehicle crossing is a good place to take videos of the Norfolk Southern trains. I wonder if those three tank cars sitting on the spur to the industrial park were dropped off by a passing manifest freight train to make for a quicker delivery by the local. Having the tank cars dropped off by a manifest train could eliminate a day or two of delay in taking the cars to Gest Street in Cincinnati, Ohio and then having them wait for a local train to bring them out of Gest Street to the Ringwood Industrial Park. The customer might have a track mobile that he could use to bring the tank cars to their destination. Isn't the Norfolk Southern train that you caught on the trestle over the CSX tracks on the Norfolk Southern line that goes past the front of the Abner Gaines house. The CSX tracks that are under the Norfolk Southern trestle are the CSX tracks that run behind the Abner Gaines House. The other Norfolk Southern trians that you caught in Walton, Kentucky were interesting to watch.
I use to watch the W.W.O.T. channel, but Mike is kind of an old stick in the mud when it comes to changing locations. You move around all the time and even take us on vacations. ❤ Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I had to look up shoo fly but I understand it now ). I was thinking of shoofly pie, which I also looked up, saying it was made with molasses. I don’t think I ever seen a shoofly pie before.

Warsaw, IN has a small road running section in the middle of town. It’s nice and gets about 5 or six trains a day.
As all the yard Masters try to get those tracks empty before New Year's Eve they seem to move faster and there's room for them too. That rail from Evraz is unique and that it's made in Pueblo CO and is the former Colorado Fuel and iron company which made substantial amounts of rail. Also it happens to be russian-owned and that is their only plant in the US. Lots of CP cars that may have gone by my viewing locations and it was good to see the coil train with 18 cars still busy during a holiday week along with the gondola train. The viewers sure traveled around the area and we look forward to the 2024 Journeys

@@Triplebuc50 A shoo-fly is a track laid around the main track that needs to be worked on. It's mostly used to get around bridge repair but can also be used around derailment sites. When the work on the main track is done the shoo-fly is removed.

The Grain train with NS 4711 came to Marion, IN and was loaded in Kokomo on 12/28-29, And was brought back to Marion today 12/30. Probably head out south later tonight or Sunday sometime. Interesting tidbit.

Loved the variety of locations on this viddy, JT. Love the "newest toy" with the doggies, too. JT... can I see what the "Shoo-Fly" use to look like before they upgrade? Can you post what video in reply, please? Ha, the last time you were at that location those traffic lights at the old closed crossing still worked even though there was not road there. They have fixed that and disabled them. I recall that the trains still use to sound their horns even though there was no crossing. They must have to, even if it is closed... they must have to sound them if the lights flash!

Great work, as usual, Bruce. Great, again, for you to explain the rails manufacturing info. Excellent description of the immediate area in your first segment. I remember many videos you shot when the shoo-fly was in active use. CSX on the trestle, with a CP DPU on the end - great shot! And the steel coils train also had a back-end CPU. Nice curve at 13:40. Great to hear you describe some RR radio talk. Your ID of train numbers, types, and destinations is really appreciated! A gentle reminder - for cold days there is this wonderful invention - a hat! Please treat yourself to a few - knit hats work really well for windy cold weather. And, Happy New Year!

Shoofly!! That first train with the CP Rail cars and a couple DME cars, I’m sure were loaded right here in Westby, MT with durum bound for Ardent Mills in Culpepper, VA! Durum is milled into semolina flour for use in making pasta.
