    This is a very nice and detailed review, thank you! I've seen this set here on Amazon (the US version) and thought it was a bit pricey for a Hornby RailRoad set costing over $300 (I believe that's a little over £250, so you got a good deal haha). From your video, it seems to be more detailed and a somewhat 'higher quality' model than their usual RailRoad stuff. It's a nice counterpart to the Flying Scotsman set, the two LNER Pacific icons :)

    • @Themodelrailer
      @Themodelrailer  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words made up you like the video/review and wow didnt know i had viewers in the us😊 il love to see what it all came to in dollars as would like to think its still a good price for what you get and depending what you guys have in shops over there you may still find a good deal but maybe the price is that its a better quality kit. And yes was definitely good seeing the two together had to run them both on the layout!! Thanks for watching!😊

      @@Themodelrailer Yeah, as a collector of British locos and rolling stock, I can say a lot of it is hard to find here... Most of my collection comes from what the US Amazon has available through Amazon UK's Global Store, or second-hand from eBay or Hattons. I guess going based on our limited stock, it's a great price as I believe the loco and coaches are not sold separately here haha. The only British locos I've seen in model shops in my area are from the Bachmann Thomas and Friends range lol
      Keep up the great videos, look forward to seeing more :)

      @trainfanshaggy wow thought it would have been more readily available for you over their even with ho being your main gauge but the track being the same as our 00 gauge have you tried hornby website itself as you get points etc which will allow you to get money off maybe that will help if they ship out to you unless you have tried that already and thank you again for the kind comment at the end ones like that make me think im doing the right thing and want to keep going😊

      @@Themodelrailer hmm, might give Hornby's site a try. I didn't know of their points system, once I've saved up for a new loco, I'll look into it ☺ And yes, as a content creator myself, I know what you mean. Comments from our subscribers are like a little reminder that people truly appreciate watching what we have to share, whether we're reviewing train sets and locos or sharing clips of our locos running on our layouts ☺

      Most of the larger hornby train sets come with a track mat super handy and helpful especially for getting started and helping with layout building i have a small series started on building a layout and i use the mallard set as the start of it if thats of any help or interest and i open the mat out fully so you can see all of it and the size if you wish to see it properly! Nitpicker here: If this is supposed to be the record breaker train, shouldn't it include the dynamometer car rather than bog-standard passenger coaches?

    • @Themodelrailer
      @Themodelrailer  6 месяцев назад +1

      No nitpicking at all if thats what happened when this loco achieved that then as a modelling group that wants realism and accuracy thats a really good point!!! When i get the 2024 catalogue through if this set i in there again i will make an enquiry and see if i can get a answer if so will let you know. Great point made there!! Thanks for watching😊

    How can one overcome jerky slow movement? Make sure i get a brand with precision motors? And, is it posdible to have sound fitted with this one? Newb here 😂

    • @Themodelrailer
      @Themodelrailer  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey there ok so jerky movement tends to be the gearing/motor without changing motors or trying to fit a flywheel as long as slow to normal running is fine then no worries a crawl shows the quality of the whole mechanism so the less jerky the better lol. You can fit sound to any model if it has a decoder socket inside ie dcc ready you just need a sound decoder with speaker and the right sound track to load onto it! You can buy certain locos that already have sound fitted to them and it will say dcc fitted/sound! Hope this helps you out a little i have a video showing the new hornby 7000 sound decoders and how to work them and also a video showing fitting the old hornby tts sound too on a class 66 model and hey dont worry we all start somewhere hope this and the videos help you anything else let me know or will do some videos explaining basics etc if that may help even more! Thanks for watching😊

      @@Themodelrailer thanks so much! I was confused as I kep reading that only 21 pin dcc ready can do sound, and isn't this one 8 pin? If all this one needs is a decoder and speaker I'm in !

    • @Themodelrailer
      @Themodelrailer  6 месяцев назад

      @Danthehorse hey no worries if i can help out in and way will do ask away! The old tts models were mainly 8 pin a lot of the newer ones are now 21 pin but if you dont find a old tts sound decoder and go for a new hm7000 one they are doing 8 pin as well as 21 pin now if im right😊

    While in ny opinion its a great looking set, the price is excessive. They retailed for around 150-160£ 5 years ago, and the sudden price jump is really off putting

    • @Themodelrailer
      @Themodelrailer  7 месяцев назад

      I do agree especially for getting people into the hobby especially when you see certain sales that happen knowing profit will still be being made on those prices. The only way is to price all the individual pieces of the set against the combination of the set to see a saving sadly. Thanks for watching😊

  • @Danthehorse
    @Danthehorse 6 месяцев назад +1

    Im considring buying this, but ive bern told rhe controller is poor and the carriages are a bit cheap looking. Both those things i would want to upgrade, even as a newbie .
    I would love to see the loco filmed with a nicer set of carriages. Do you have any lighted ones you could film it with ?

    • @Themodelrailer
      @Themodelrailer  6 месяцев назад +1

      Personally i do think its a great set and run the loco with the coaches it came with however with starter sets the whole set is is more than likely all classed as railroad so not as detailed as the more shall we say premium models. However it runs fantastic for what it is! yes you can get nicer coaches and yes the controller isnt the best but out of the box it does everything you need it too😊 your best/cheapest bet to upgrade coaches controller i would say is either ebay or one of the buy and sell facebook groups as you can get some cracking coaches for a good price especially starting off and i swear by the gaugemaster controllers have had the one i have for many years runs the locos amazingly! I do have a really nice set of coaches that have lights in and of course i can film a little video running with these if you would like me too😊 hope this helps you out and Thanks for watching😊!

    Personally think the set is too expensive. A starter kit should be affordable for those that hornby want to tempt into the hobby. Maybe an A4 is not an appropriate train for starter set. I started with the coca cola set and i picked it up for £65, which is amazing value. I now have 22 locos, which i have collected in just 2 years.
    Sweet spot for a starter set in my view is between 80-150, with probably a more basic loco and 2 carriages.

    • @Themodelrailer
      @Themodelrailer  8 месяцев назад

      I do agree it is still expensive for a starter set its only if you price it all individually that you see the value out of it but there should be more better and affordable starter sets out there. A good bet is 2nd hand you can get some great sets even older sets that run fantastic with sometimes more features too. Alittle of the same have quite a few locos partly because of the channel too but even now still always look 2nd hand first ! Thanks for watching😊
