I used to hear this on the fairground, back in the early 70's.. Slightly speeded up, and it sounded tons better.. much more punchier, and if you were on a fast ride.. even more awesome, just that little bit faster.
In 1971, "I'm Gonna Run Away From You" was released as a single, with "The Boy Next Door" as the B-side, on Mojo and Atlantic, where it became a hit in the UK among devotees of Northern soul. The tune hit number 4 in the UK Singles Chart in 1971.[1] A full-length album, Love Is Here and Now You're Gone, followed in 1972, produced by John Abbey
Well get up Joyce...put on your electric blue pararells, your white socks, your Crombie, your shoes with heels and segs on the heel to help you spin, and move on up!

You don't have to worry about what it looks like as long as you are enjoying your self it's not a dance competition I did enjoy it 40 years ago and still do now.
That place is too bright, you need a touch of dimness to get an atmosphere and a floodlit hall will inhibit learners as all their mistakes and dud dancing is on view to everyone. IMHO
A beautiful Twisted Wheel record wrongly termed as Northern Soul. We danced to this before there was such a term as N/S. Try and be accurate as this sort of stuff means an awful lot to a real Twisted Wheel goer. Do your 'Line' type dance by all means but as I said leave the N/S title out of it.
@@grahamunderwood5839 I have taken it easy---The lead statement says that this song jumped the gap from the charts to N/S. BOLLOCKS, it's the other way round, You are obviously 'new' to the scene. I stated in a previous post that the Wheel is sacrosanct to those that went every week for years.
Love watching these people how they can really dance and keep to the beat. No fights just normal people enjoying Themselves. Love the tune to this. Awsome.
Probably because we enjoyed dancing and found being hammered was not great for Northern Soul, we didn't need booze to enjoy ourselves, great time to be alive
It was played a lot in 1971. It was a huge northern soul hit. @@DanMasterBlaster ; err no it wasn't. I was right at the centre of Northern Soul and was a DJ in that genre. I went to the Twisted Wheel, Pendulum Mcr, Wigan Casino etc. Your correct though, it was a CHART hit. Ergo, not Northern Soul.

You have to say that their ok dancers I wouldn’t class them as real Northern soul dancers at the moment it seems to be a night out for anyone over 50 - when we were on the scene originally everybody was in their 20,s - 30’s but there you go u can’t hold time back.
God I used to love this track even though it was a bit too commercial for the Northern scene in the day. I didn't care about that, it's just brilliant.
It's beautiful to watch people getting up and dance to this incredible music. They're all my age and loving it!

This was originally released in 1968. It was its popularity on the northern soul scene that led to its re release and chart success in 1971.
Northern Soulies are just the nicest people ever.
Saw Tami sing this at Hypnotique club in York early 70s
Wow...just wow. You lucky sod! Keep the faith Gordon!
Absolutely love this song and the northern Soul dance, would love to learn this, anybody know of any soul clubs in the Maidenhead/Windsor areas.??

Great to see people just letting go.
Good stuff 😃
Love it... 👍
How does someone know when you are dancing bad?
Is there a specific way to dance to these wonderful tracks?
It's just about the beat, there's no actual rules to it,
There is Mark, but it takes a bit of learning! But for me? You love the music and that what counts. It certainly did for us back in the seventies.
@@mickdevlin Thanks for that, I understand.
If the dancer's enjoying themselves there's no such thing as dancing bad Mark.

Delicious ❤️Qualitee🎉💯❤️
Intriguing, has a cultish feel with movements limited to a few walking type variations.
Kiki Dee does a great version of this song..

Most of the people commenting on this were not there either Michael. This is a Wheel record--eff all to do with N/S.

Tammi Lynn was hardly Northern Soul. More like Motown really. If they had played it at Wigan, there would have been a riot.

Really cool dancing, and i bet the women had the extremely cute midlands accent too.
is it me or does it look like they're dancing at a faster beat than the music,Michael Jacksons bear it would be more appropriate.
