    Nice job, If I have a stock fan shroud with heater flaps I have always wired them open here in FL when I lived out west in Oregon I made damn sure they operated properly. Many people will tell you they are always needed but..... Ive been doing it 30+ years and my engines last and don't have overheating issues. call me we can talk about the pro's and cons for hours! 🤣

    Old German mechanic told me those thermostats are only to heat engine and in winter and don't even work till temp is at 25⁰ outside. What happens is all the linkage gets dirty and gets stuck closed and engine overheats because flaps are stuck closed. Said take them out and never use and I live in New England. Never had a problem.

    Hi, Gary, again very nice and informative video ! At the moment, I am also battling with one of these aftermarket shrouds, same as your, just not chrome but plain black. Have the same issues as you with fitment, also had to trim it to get it to sit kind of properly... Have one question there though : you can trim the bottom of the shroud where it contacts the case, to get it to sit lower, but isn't how high or low the shroud sits, in the end determine by the alternator/fan assembly ? I worry that if I trim the shroud enough to get it to sit properly on the case and cylnider shrouds, the opening for the fan and the boltholes won't line up anymore.

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  27 дней назад

      @@michaeltetzner5847 glad you enjoyed the video.
      You are correct, the fan will determine where the shroud sits. It’s best to mock things up as a complete assembly and go from there. You may need to trim the lower part that sits against the case of the alternator doesn’t sit flush with the stand. It’s trial and error.

Now you ? about it at the parts house and their reply is = the key way hold it on . That is why they end up rattling the key way . What is a VW driver to do .
