The fan looks interesting, I will be looking forward to some kind of comparison temps. While you may be able to install the dog house cooler without pulling the motor anyone without a "hatch" won't be able to. It still might be easier for you to pull it too. With a dog house cooler it will be imperative to make sure you have a newer case with the "captive" nut behind the cooler as it is near impossible to access it. I have worked it on a bug with an extra long open end wrench but can't imagine doing it on a bus. I also run a bead of silicone around the seams of the dog house tin as the foam used is cheapo and will disintigrate over time.
Is that a bike fender mounted on top of that 36 HP fan shroud? Looks cool did you buy like that or make it. Great video I'm in the market for something like this. Hot summers around here are 115 super 🔥.
Usually the foam that comes with the doghouse cover has an adhesive on it, with a peel off liner and you press it into the actual cover, so it stays in place easier. Did you adhere to the shroud instead? I guess you can do it either way, but I always glued it to the cover instead of the shroud. Looks good!
My 64 baja has the original style shroud still, despite having some newer parts like a 70s speedometer, due to being 12v updated. But I suppose the engine might suffer from heat less since the engine is so exposed? Haven't dug into it any to see if the 65 engine it has is big bore or anything, been trying to get the brakes in order for the past month. Kept finding other problems (missing parking brake parts in the drums, totally ruined front spindle). Needs the electrical gone over due to loose connections etc.
Unfortunately the motor I installed it on had a bad case. I'll be putting it on my new motor soon and I have a few long trips planned for "testing purposes " 😜
Thanks for the video Jason, I too am upgrading the cooling system on my ‘62 bus and bought the same fan. But my shroud isn’t as cool as yours (it’s a scat). Do you plan on adding the heater louvers to the shroud? Are you adding a remote oil cooler as well? I waiting for the mounting bit from Andrig as well. I look forward to part two!
I have all new doghouse tins, including the venturi ring from Awesome Powdercoating to increase the air volume to the fan. I'm adding a remote cooler with a fan when the motor goes back in the bus, plus a few other top secret tricks. Andrig is making some "flaps" for the shroud that stay in the open position to direct air over the heads, and I may try to get one of those as well. Down here we don't really need the thermostat as it doesn't get cold for very long.
Thanks for the response! Yep I bought a 96 fin cooler with fan from empi, right now she runs sooo hot which means I have to drive slow. I hope all these upgrades make the bus more drivable and able to keep up with my buddies. I also have the 17 gal gas tank from England to put in (the same one Skinner ordered)
Maybe! Once I have my numbers from this upgrade with my regular oil, I can add a little with my oil change and see if it helps. Thanks for the request!
@@OldVolksTV thanks for the response, I havnt had a chance to check out all your videos on it was it as great of an improvement as advertised? Also where did you get your dual carb, single port intake manifolds?
I've had several issues with motors since this video, so I don't have much real data. I've done a couple long drives and the temps stayed below 200° while pulling a trailer, whereas before they were 260°+ without a trailer. I plan to make a couple long trips this summer to see how it handles the real hot weather but I think we have a winner with this setup.
I love that fan shroud
Nice walkthrough - looking forward to part two. Thanks!
I love that dog house.

I'll be pulling the motor as I need to change my exhaust and seal up a few minor leaks. I definitely think this should be done motor out.
Like the idea please don’t let empi get involved or AA
Excellent video! Come to Brazil for a ride in your VW Beetle and you'll understand how easy it is to go above 100 degrees Celsius.
🤣🤣 Thanks for watching!
I love the color of the fan shroud.
Nice video bro , love the shroud color
Good stuff I need all the help I can get staying cool in Phoenix!!!
This should do the trick!

Hi there,
Did you compare the new cooling system with the original?
I couldn’t find a part 2/follow up for this video!
Great content though!
Great video man! Can’t wait for part 2 and some data.
Man what is the sweet color of that fan shroud?! Also I’m piecing together an 1800 for my Bus and am glad to find this info out. Thanks!
I used a can of spray paint I had on a shelf. I also added a few coats of high temp clear to help keep it clean.

I always stick it to the shroud 🤷♀️
Nice video, we’re you going to attach links to the products you used🤔
That's what I came here looking for too👍
Me too
I added links to the tins and the fan. The shroud was custom built 😜
That's pretty sharp, I like the looks of it alot!
that fan looks great
Dude what kinda shroud is that? I like that round look on top. That fan is pretty cool
The shroud is a custom made piece. They were popular in Northern CA when I was younger.
@@OldVolksTV that’s badass man. I like the look smooth and clean.

It's always a bigger project than you think with these old cars. 🤣
I think a "how to" video on installing the larger type 4 oil cooler would be helpful too. I'm interested in how well that new fan works.
If I can get my hands on one I'll give it a go!

@@OldVolksTV where is the link for that shroud fan?
Or where can I locate it?
Thank you sir
and there’s a massive gap between the shroud and the hoover piece. Always happens with cheap fan shrouds!
I actually went back and put some high density foam in there when I put it on the motor. Spent a whole weekend getting the tins to fit just right.
I have that same roller throttle cable tube. I don't remember where I got it either.
Hey man tell us where to get that fan shroud..I know you read the comments
Ha. I read and respond to EVERY comment ! The shroud is a custom piece. They were popular in CA in the 90s.
I expected to see links to the Andrigs stuff, video and such
I added a link to his facebook, which is acting as his website for now. I'll link his videos in a few.
Any update results on the fan blade ? Was it worth installing?

Can’t seem to find the fan o. Their website any information on this thanks.
@@bigdaddymex2003 i believe he stopped making that style and has upgraded to something better.
You mentioned your bus is still 6V, any chance you have a Hard start Relay installed? And if so, is the relay 6V or 12V?
My Trans is 6v, but I've converted everything else to 12v on the bus. I use a 6v starter and horn still though.
@@OldVolksTV so no HS relay?
Nope. 12 system with a 6v starter works great. Been using that setup for years.
So how well does it cool ?
Works very well! Engine temps dropped at least 15° on a long trip.
Very kool!
Any updates on this fan? Can’t wait to hear how it turns out.
I'm waiting on the updated hub. Should be here in a week, then the massive upgrades can go in.
Excellent. I will remain on the edge of my seat.
already put one on
Is that a stock shroud or aftermarket?
Right? What shroud is that??
It's a German 36hp shroud with some custom work done. CA style from the early 90s.
Can you tell us the exatct fanshroud name or where to find it? Tha fan too
The shroud was custom made. The fan came from www.andrigsaircooledtechnology.com/
Interesting
Where can I purchase one of those turbo fans s?
Boa Noite amizade esse seu projeto é muito bom 👍 preciso conhecer um pouco mais postar mais informações e vídeos. Beleza

Wow! I want one of those tanks. But they're $$$. Very high quality and the extra capacity is nice on longer trips tho.
Let’s talk about that sweet motor in the background. What’s that all about?
That's a 2110cc EFI motor I'm putting together for my "race" car 62 euro rag. More videos on that one soon!
hi , any chance of a SLICK50 demo ? an eqipment testor , demoed that a 5hp motor ran 175 degrees cooler !
Maybe! Once I have my numbers from this upgrade with my regular oil, I can add a little with my oil change and see if it helps. Thanks for the request!
Are you still running this fan?
I'm about to move it to my new motor for some rigorous testing
I just installed it over the weekend after it was on the shelf a year. Keep up the good work!
may I ask is the fan shroud still making or no more and what websites?
It was made by a friend of mine many years ago.
Where can i get this cool "round" Fan Shroud Housing??
It was custom made a loooong time ago
Who modified the top of the shroud and how ?
A friend of mine did it several years ago. It's a top secret mod 😆
It looks very nice 🙂 well done
I like the shroud. What is it
It's a custom piece made from. German 36hp shroud.
@@OldVolksTV ouh nicee..
So what is the price for this kit ?

Please share the link of the fan.
I've added the only link he has at the moment.
Where can I find that dog house

Im interested in buying the fan, where can I get it?
Andrigs Air-cooled Technology makes it.
Are these customer jobs your doing here?
This is for my bus motor. Sometimes I do work for people, but usually just friends.
👍
Would this set up work with a 69 early bay?
Anything with an upright engine and a doghouse oil cooler.

When you take a 65hp motor to 200 your going to have problems, and they will never last compared to a modern engine
