LOVE to see the technical detail, I really respect how hands on you guys get with the dirt of volkswagen ownership, it makes the shinier, more glamorous side of it seem that much more earned. Good stuff.
People forget that when these rigs were new folks drove them across Africa and South America, around the world. They're very capable, just need to be returned to new or better condition to do it, not hobbling along on worn out parts. I"m sitting in my '82 on a beach in remote Mexico, doing fine, just needs plenty of preventative maintenance.
this is exactly the kind of stuff we love! CB Performance builds the best aircooled motors. Kombi Life is going to be driving miles and miles, relatively worry free. 96 horsepower is really nice for a VW Bus. Many VW Buses have less than half of that. Thanks for showing us such detail, many of us are genuinely interested in it.

I don't understand much about engines but this was still pretty interesting. What I'm really looking forward to though is the interior conversion. You guys are living the dream. Good on you! 👍🏼😉
My very first car was a '65 baja bug. Loved it! I think you have made some great decisions about the engine/trans combination. Fuel injection should provide a lot of reliability and a smooth running engine regardless of altitude. Just make certain that you have clean gas. I'm sure CB has been through all of that with you. Looking forward to your adventures! I think the only thing I might have done differently would be front disk brakes.
I have the same bus sitting in the backyard and that's pretty much all it's doing LOL I'm working on the 71 transporter Grew up traveling in a 71 camper bus all that said I can't wait to see this thing run and watch YouTwo on your new adventure!!
CB performance staff have said it so many times "keeping the engine cool" never the less keep in mind that the heat transfer of the fins is optimum when clean. A simple regular wash to the outside of an air ventilated engine will take its longevity a long way.
I've watched quite a few of your guys's videos I'm very happy for you for finally getting any high quality engine installedand if worse comes to worst out in the middle of nowhere you most likely can take off the fuel injection system slap on an intake and carburetor and be on your way until you can get the injection system
Now you have got an engine of very high specifications, its going to be up to you to drive it more sympathetically then your previous engines.. Gouging at the throttle going uphill with the previous underpowered engines with an excessive load trying to go too fast, was the cause of the many engine failures..... Please be sympathetic to this beautifully engineered power plant !!
Hi im Johan Clausen following you from day one all the way from south africa Capetown, love the series love to travel with on your adventures every episode , thank you for sharing your lives ,your briliant. My poor bus wil never see the road again, 79 bay ,no nose skin, engine t4 ,solid no rust, have him for 13 years now only drove it once for 1000km ,cant afford to touch it at all, quite a shame , the smallest things cost to the effect of almost a months sallary here i see that it is 9700 dollars geeeez, ...that is a life time of saving away , thats almost more than three quarter of a years salary for me,i could never justify it,so hart broken right now. hope you guys have the time of your lives again all over, Safe Journey
Don't be worried about EFI ! I have been running efi on my classic triumph for years and never had a hiccup ! Better power, fuel economy, and runs perfectly at altitude . You won't look back
Robert Pritchard why would you ? Most modern fuel stations in the uk use a mix of petrol and ethanol but you would struggle to buy pure ethanol ! Not sure else where in the world ? I am sure you could get your engine to run on pure ethanol but it would need a map or tune to the fuel being used
YES, finally something for the motor heads! Not that your other videos aren't good, THEY ARE! But, I love the full picture and looking back at your videos many of them have had to do with something about the motor in your van being broke. So, now with this great little motor what will future videos be about LOL! Hopefully, not about having a broke down motor ;) GOOD STUFF thanks for taking the time to share. GET UP, GET OUT and ENJOY WHAT LIFE HAS TO OFFER!

I'm really impressed with CB Performance!
CB performance staff have said it so many times "keeping the engine cool" never the less keep in mind that the heat transfer of the fins is optimum when clean. A simple regular wash to the outside of an air ventilated engine will take its longevity a long way.
good shout! thank you
Man that young man is so lucky to work for this outfit CB PERFORMANCE
I've watched quite a few of your guys's videos I'm very happy for you for finally getting any high quality engine installedand if worse comes to worst out in the middle of nowhere you most likely can take off the fuel injection system slap on an intake and carburetor and be on your way until you can get the injection system
Aaahh! Can't wait any longer!
A reason to look forward to Thursdays.. thank you!
I admire what you two are doing too WOW
Interesting video guys, this was quality documentary filming.
What would be your top tip for planning a long term trip?
Now you have got an engine of very high specifications, its going to be up to you to drive it more sympathetically then your previous engines.. Gouging at the throttle going uphill with the previous underpowered engines with an excessive load trying to go too fast, was the cause of the many engine failures..... Please be sympathetic to this beautifully engineered power plant !!
This is amazing! It's exactly what I was looking for.
Always a best idea to go with what they specialize in.
Thank you for this awesome video!! Love watching mechanical vids
Hi im Johan Clausen following you from day one all the way from south africa Capetown, love the series love to travel with on your adventures every episode , thank you for sharing your lives ,your briliant.
My poor bus wil never see the road again, 79 bay ,no nose skin, engine t4 ,solid no rust, have him for 13 years now only drove it once for 1000km ,cant afford to touch it at all, quite a shame , the smallest things cost to the effect of almost a months sallary here i see that it is 9700 dollars geeeez, ...that is a life time of saving away , thats almost more than three quarter of a years salary for me,i could never justify it,so hart broken right now.
hope you guys have the time of your lives again all over,
Safe Journey
Don't be worried about EFI ! I have been running efi on my classic triumph for years and never had a hiccup ! Better power, fuel economy, and runs perfectly at altitude .
You won't look back
Sounds like a dream
Robert Pritchard why would you ? Most modern fuel stations in the uk use a mix of petrol and ethanol but you would struggle to buy pure ethanol ! Not sure else where in the world ?
I am sure you could get your engine to run on pure ethanol but it would need a map or tune to the fuel being used
Have you thought about some type of gas filter to filter gas before you put into the van
If my husband doesn't kill me when I buy a project Type 1 I'm definitely getting an engine from the CB guys
😆
YES, finally something for the motor heads! Not that your other videos aren't good, THEY ARE! But, I love the full picture and looking back at your videos many of them have had to do with something about the motor in your van being broke. So, now with this great little motor what will future videos be about LOL! Hopefully, not about having a broke down motor ;) GOOD STUFF thanks for taking the time to share. GET UP, GET OUT and ENJOY WHAT LIFE HAS TO OFFER!
Great guys over there at CB. That motor is going to last forever!
we certainly hope so Soap. They did a great job of putting it together we thought
@@KombiLife I really like that rear bumper with the swing away tire mount. Good thinking.
soap details of that in the next week's episode - you can see it early on the Channel Members Community feed or here on Patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/23574068
Is it weird to say I actually liked the more unprofessional-ish series of hasta Alaska more than I like this? Don't get me wrong you guys are doing an amazing job documenting great journeys but all the breakdowns and the motivation to just keep on going no matter what was going on really inspired me... Will we have that sort of stuff in this series also?
This journey is going to be our toughest one yet, I'm sure there are going to be as many ups and downs as the last series. We are always aiming to improve our skills and pride ourselves in creating quality content but there will no doubt be harsh, raw moments on the road were we won't always be able to film as professionally as we'd like 🙂
This is great.
Watching your eyes glazing over with all the technical details, priceless. Lol
