Secularism never existed in India and was just tool for political vote bank. When you agree to this fact, you can't put out ideas to bring "back" secularism in India. You can suggest idea for secularisation Indian society. This should be a social process and not a political process.

It is strange that Shekhar Gupta ji gets away with blaming Hindu's for the way the polity is. The responsibility of secularism has been always of Hindu's while other religions have been free to perpetuate their bigotry & weaponizing all spheres of life. Be it food (halal), property appropriation (waqf or Church), demographic change (conversion by allurement or creating hindu exodus), education against Hindus (madrasa or missionary schools), control of religious places (temples govt owned only in case of Hindus), every sphere of life has been either hijacked or been nibbled away leaving less space of Hindus day after day.
Article 30, Right To Education Act, Waqf Act, Personal laws allowed only for minorities, etc. clearly discriminates against Hindus & Hindu institutions.
Because Hindu are in majority so they can be discriminated against as a religion. And wherever they are in minority (Kashmir, North-east, etc) they don't not get the same benefits.
Every separatist movment in India be it Kashmir Jihadi's, Naxals, Northeast Christian insurgents, SIMI, PFI, etc all have been anti-hindu at the core.
Hindu's don't realise this because they are too confused by this secular talk and too guilt ridden by they just being a Hindu .
But most of the Hindu's won't realise it just like Hindus of 1930s in Pakistan, 1960s in north-east, 1970s in Bangladesh didn't realise it what is waiting for them, as the space shrinks for them.
This is what Shekhar saab and his tribe stands for. That's all western funded individuals, NGO's, organisations have been working for, A divided Hindu & a Balkanised India.

      I fully support your reasoning.
Islam and Christianity have been, are and will remain predatory religions full of their own shocking inequities and bizarre notions that have no foundation in scientific thought or reality. What is shocking is that most of these intellectuals actually say with a straight face, that "Hinduism has too many problems such as Caste system, andh-vishwas, irrationality etc etc.." and therefore Hinduism deserves to be done away with.
In favor of what..? The Abrahamic faiths??
Any one who cherishes true democracy, will naturally gravitate towards Hinduism. The only system which encourages you to find your own method to uncover the universal truth.
      Hinduism is True spiritual democracy.
And if Hinduism finds issues within itself, it has every right to be left alone. To find its own solutions.
You have the concept of UN Heritage Sites, under which all kinds of tombs and nonsense structures are 'protected'.. Why not identify 6-8 UN Heritage Religions (like Hinduism, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Maoris, Red Indians, Mayans/Incans) which cannot be touched or 'invaded'?!

There was open appeasement of the minorities who grabbed and controlled virtually all arenas from commerce, education, Healthcare etc. The realization of being marginalized in your own state was hurting. There was no voice to speak for the Hindus. The secularism in India was a scam for the last 70yrs. @@renegadepuppy It all depends on perspective but Muslims can't be called minority because they are not really only 20 crores. Their population is much higher than that and when coupled with population of secularist-atheistic Hindus, they form the majority. They have always been at the core of king-making by virtue of en masse voting. You appease them and get the entire 15% vote and when this vote is coupled with the rabid Ambedkarite anti-Hindu votes it is a winning combination. Muslims may be minority only in absolute terms but they know the formula of exerting enormous influence and thus can't be termed as minority because of not having the problems faced by a minority.
Moreover the concept of majority minority doesn't apply in the polytheistic societies. It's suitable for those societies where the majority population is monotheistic and thus the minorities need some assurance that their rights won't be overriden. Whereas the Hindus are polytheistic and don't culminate on an issue (this is the very fundamental nature of polytheism) so they don't need to give assurance to anyone.

Point 1 & 2: I'm specifically talking the tribalism amongst monotheistic cults. You must be too naive if you can't even understand the fundamental difference between monotheism and polytheism. The word 'mono' means one and 'poly' means multiple, the monotheists believe in singularity hence are more tribalistic and organized unlike polytheists. Maybe you could dive a little deep in understanding basics of various religious traditions else stick to data science only.
Point 3: You may accuse me of anything but the fact remains the reported numbers are always less than the reality. And even if I accept your claim of 20 crores, I explained why it is still a majority. You seem to have missed my points listed above.
One a side note, I guess you're a Bong so I don't have much expectations of logic, sense, or objectivity from you especially when it comes to understanding Hinduism/India. Marxists are anti-establishment and in India the dominant establishement is Hinduism so it's understandable that you will be pitching underdog religions (Islam and Christianity) against the Hinduism. It is not your fault, you have grown up in a state which has been under ultra far-left rule since decades and it's quite natural that you're the product of that thinking and times. Maybe living in US may change your thought process but it's difficult as you're too old for that.

Bengal may have produced good scholars but that is a thing of past, now the region is a cesspool of anarchy, bigotry and Islamism.
You still fail to understand the fundamental difference between monotheists and polytheists. The polytheists are divided in their very essence unlike monotheists. Putting the degree of tribalism among both group on same pedestal is not only illogical but also intellectual dishonesty. I know why you're trying to underplay the role of religion here because it doesn't suit your worldview which is largely divided in economic classes are in constant struggle only due to economic reasons. Let me try to burst that theory - Can you tell me how many Hindus wanted construction of Ram Mandir? It was kind of a 50-50 divided between those who wanted and those who didn't. But on the same hand, can you tell me how many Muslims are okay with what Nupur Sharma said? Negligible! Conclusion being, the Muslims are united for a common cause of religion due to everything being one there (monotheism), it's easy to rally behind a cause whereas Hindus don't have a common cause to rally behind by virtue of being a polytheistic community and thus don't possess the strength of a majority. Hindus are collection of several hundreds of minority communities only.

@ThePrint Majority of the BJP supporters hate "Indian Secularism" or "Nehruvian Secularism" not because they hate Muslims but because of the appeasement politics of other "secular" parties. However, I think Shekharji must also question if the "Indian Secularism" in the form it is practiced is even a good thing. I agree that there is so-called "appeasement" in talk. But think of it in terms of action on the ground. How many Muslims have been Central Government Ministers, since 1947, till 2014, when the Congress was in power? What is the percentage of Muslims holding positions in the civil services? Are they present in the IITs? In the corporate sector? You will find that on most parameters, it's one of the worst-performing communities. And the BJP is not improving things by permitting all sorts of vitriol against them, and passing laws like anti-conversion laws. If you leave the talk, and look at hard data, you will find that being a Muslim in India is not at all a pleasant thing. On the contrary, large numbers of Hindus are doing extremely well, in business, in education, you name it. You are not refused a house in Mumbai because you are a Hindu, right? Your place of worship has not been demolished and another one built with the tacit approval of the Supreme Court, has it been? Have you seen this happening in Western Europe, the US, or other mature democracies? And somehow Hindus are supposed to be the oppressed ones here! Really? I am not even a bit sad with this current plight of the so-called secular parties as they are hardly secular, but more more anti-Hindu. How do they expect Hindus to vote for them when they don't miss any opportunities to insult Hinduism & Hindus? They believe that insulting Hinduism is main prerequisite to prove their secular credentials. Also, one thing that I don't understand how BJP can be blamed for the Muslim alienation when so-called secular parties have demonized BJP as anti-Muslim to such an extent that supporting BJP has become an anti-Muslim activity. In my opinion, if these so-called secular parties want to get back Hindu votes, they first have to prove that they can be fair to Hindus. I don't think that will happen anytime soon as in fact they seem to go in the opposite way. They don't seem to have understood the reason of their current state and still seem to be in denial. I believe that India needs strong opposition parties. But, currently, let alone being strong, there doesn't seem to exist even a functioning opposition party and if they keep following the current path, I don't think this changing in any foreseeable future.

2 things to note here :
    (1) Liberals in India now peddle this narrative that BJP has divided the nation, which is utter rubbish…India was already divided when Congress was ruling, it is just that the division was in caste ( Hindus were told to vote as a Caste, and not as a Hindu ), and that suited the political establishment very well, who played around with caste and religion vote banks to win elections…
( 2) There was always an undercurrent of strong resentment against such vote bank politics , and that is why BJP’s polarization tactic was so successful so fast in India from 2014 onwards….No one thought such a rapid cohesion of Hindu vote bank will happen in India, and BJP has made the unthinkable happen…

The burden of Secularism is On Muslims may be, but have any of the commentators ever asked why the secularism should have parties like MUSLIM League, AIUDF etc. Why? Are the ready to throw them out of their alliance. The 2014 Victory of BJP was the anger against the power without responsibility practiced by the GANDHIS, the records will show that in 2009 INC lost votes in crucial states but the BJP was in so much disarray that they were not even able to catch them. Whatever you may mention the record of all the so called secular formations on protecting the MUSLIMS has been terrible. Be it Bhagalpur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad before 1996 to Muzafrabad in UP in 2014. They have delivered very little or no justice. Further you also forget the concerted effort to do polarization. Recently concluded UP Assembly polls showed what MUSLIMS consolidated with SP then the counter consolidation was natural. What stops them from treating them as fellow INDIANS with similar issues of FOOD, JOB, WATER, HOUSE. Also almost all the secular parties are family owned operated enterprises. Dear Shekarji, We are Hindus. We are also tired of the stupid politicians who wear Januwars for votes as much as we are tired of them wearing skullcaps for votes. As a responsible journalist, you should also stop talking about castes / religion for reasons for vote and focus your episodes on work done by the governments.

Something good and meaningful things are happening in this country after many years.
The cleansing of all the past wrong deed is essential to start afresh.

The rise of the BJP/Modi Shah is directly proportionate to the Congress loosing its connect with the Hindu masses across the country.
Lack of leadership, lack of clear vision, lack of transparency etc. has contributed to the downfall of INC, and the Hindu voter than being impressed by the BJP's qualites votes it to power.
One needs to win the heart of the middles class Hindu voter to win India.

The message to non-BJP parties is quite clear. Treat all Indians as Indians first and don’t take the silent majority for granted. The only way back for these parties is to completely revamp themselves and focus on governance and equal opportunity rather than the pseudo divisions they’ve tried to exploit for years.

Nehru disliked Hindus and their rituals, let’s not forget that. Nehru would hold an iftar party but not a Diwali celebration. Contrast this to the USA where Diwali is celebrated in the White House. Why would a secular political party not abolish triple talaq? Let’s not forget that many Muslims do vote for the BJP. India remains a secular nation but not in the definition of shekar and Nehru, that’s fine by me

I think Dr. Ambedkar mean to say ( at 14:30) you never know that time the need for secularism exists, it might be peaceful's India then.

    Another brilliant episode.
So called secular parties need to check their own glass house before throwing stones at others.
What did Rajiv Gandhi do with shah bano case ? What about uniform civil code ? Currently only goa has it due to Portuguese influence. Rest of India is still stuck with the non secular religious codes from British times.
Congress + other so called secular parties have indulged in selective appeasement of some minorities under the fake garb of secularism.
You want real secularism ? Bring UCC. Remove all restrictions of free speech. One nation, one law. French style.
