I watched the full interview of Dr. Salvatore Babones and whatever he said was completely logical, fact-based and data driven. I couldn't stop laughing when Gupta ji said he is not an intellectual. Gupta ji is the very definition of what we call intellectuals in India. It's not about being gyaanee. Indian intellectuals are the people who create a facade of credibility and moral authority and push their own opinion to gullible people. This is done with cherry picking half baked "facts" and "figures" and a misleading analysis. They don’t necessarily have bad intent. They think they can improve the country with their criticism. When I was young and lived in Kolkata during late 80's and early 90s, I used to see the same type of intellectuals protesting on the street against free market policies and demanding banning computers in banks. They used to think they are doing a great intellectual service to the nation. Same way today's Indian intellectuals think they are doing great service by being anti-India and demonising the nation.

When the professor said "Indian intellectuals are anti-India" it was like a light bulb moment for me and majority of Indians. As an engineer we never had politics in college, it was entirely education related. But a friend who is poli-sci major who went to premier uni said that politics is completely dominated by left ideological groups and parties. They hardly attend classes and protest on miniscule issues, be it Indian or world affairs issue. He said the issue is not much different in US where he did masters. There he never mentioned that he is practising Hindu to his classmates. US universities are becoming den for anti-semites and anti-Hindus

I come from one of the poorest state in India. Visited my village after 14 years. Found my village has economically grown big time, better roads, almost 24x7 electricity, there are more cars and motorbikes, almost every body has Pucca house. No body is hungry, nutrionally people are doing much better. So whatever press says- nobody believes it. People can see by themselves.
I have been living in my hometown for past two years. Its a tier three city. The economic distress here is unbelievable. Car owners seldomly take their car out. Most have them switched to their old bikes or scooties. People who used to rent their house for tenants r finding it tough to find new tenants . Some have even lowered their rent demands just to avoid losses. Many brand exclusive big shops have closed down. The only new and shiny buildings I see now r private hospitals . Lol

He is not only a sociologist, but also has a masters in statistics. So he has the ability and qualifications to analyse the data put out. He also said that the raw data is collected by some agencies, which is then processed by the rating institutions. And instead of repeatedly saying they no one bothers about these rankings, it would have been better if you had instead said which rankings matter. These agencies spend a lot of money and time to bring these lists, so they must be catering to some customers/ audiences who are willing to pay for them. So who are these customers/ audiences? A very big question, which SG did not bother to answer. One clarification on the ' foreign agent' tag of the Professor, by Australia and the US. These countries have a law that anyone working for a foreign government, which has the possibility of influencing their respective Public opinion, such persons have to register as ' Foreign agent'. SG conveniently glossed over this important information, and fubbed his way through. Even though the Institute/ organisation the professor worked for as a consultant might/ might not be funded by the government, the least SG could have done is to clarify if it was.

Problem with all the ranking and indexes concerning India is that data in these rankings are not collect at panchayat or ward level basis. Which distorts the reality of india a lot. As, in India Social, economic and political realities can change from locality to locality whether in village or in cities. Hence, there is a greater need for localisation of data.

My fellow Indian citizens, any criticism of India is not a criticism of our government, but it's a criticism of us the people too. He compares states with less than 30-million population with one with 130-million and a diversity deeper than the blackhole. First, let's understand who's an intellectual. Is Vardarajan an intellectual or Rana Ayyub for example? Is Arundhuti Roy or Prashant Bhushan or say Mohua Moitra? They each have an axe to grind and their discussion is never on a broad spectrum based on a shred of good behavior. The Modi government has tightened the screws on these personalities and taken on aggressively on the likes of Imran Khan and President Xi. They have sent Abdullahs and Muftis into oblivion from their taxpayer funded lifestyle. The government has attacked the corrupt institutions who survive on undesirable elements. There are other issues that's concerning: nutrition, education, employment and health care. Salvatore babones didn't say that it's an incorrect survey he said that UPA govt before 2014 election sent estimated wasting data rather than real data which actually came in 2015. And we can easily see that in action with the points on Religious Freedom which has gone down drastically. And it is these intellectuals who lead the data scientists to the data on supposed violations of the government which are in most cases false flag operations conducted by the Indian opposition to manufacture the very data to support the argument (For instance staged attack on a Church or a Mosque). And indivduals like SA Aiyar make sure that such data is highlisghted. And this exactly how the manufactured data enters these indexes. And that is where intellectual dishonesty comes into play...

I watched the full interview of Dr. Salvatore Babones and whatever he said was completely logical, fact-based and data driven. I couldn't stop laughing when Gupta ji said he is not an intellectual. Gupta ji is the very definition of what we call intellectuals in India. It's not about being gyaanee. Indian intellectuals are the people who create a facade of credibility and moral authority and push their own opinion to gullible people. This is done with cherry picking half baked "facts" and "figures" and a misleading analysis. They don’t necessarily have bad intent. They think they can improve the country with their criticism. When I was young and lived in Kolkata during late 80's and early 90s, I used to see the same type of intellectuals protesting on the street against free market policies and demanding banning computers in banks. They used to think they are doing a great intellectual service to the nation. Same way today's Indian intellectuals think they are doing great service by being anti-India and demonising the nation.

When the professor said "Indian intellectuals are anti-India" it was like a light bulb moment for me and majority of Indians. As an engineer we never had politics in college, it was entirely education related. But a friend who is poli-sci major who went to premier uni said that politics is completely dominated by left ideological groups and parties. They hardly attend classes and protest on miniscule issues, be it Indian or world affairs issue. He said the issue is not much different in US where he did masters. There he never mentioned that he is practising Hindu to his classmates. US universities are becoming den for anti-semites and anti-Hindus

I come from one of the poorest state in India. Visited my village after 14 years. Found my village has economically grown big time, better roads, almost 24x7 electricity, there are more cars and motorbikes, almost every body has Pucca house. No body is hungry, nutrionally people are doing much better.
So whatever press says- nobody believes it. People can see by themselves.

Car owners seldomly take their car out. Most have them switched to their old bikes or scooties.

He is not only a sociologist, but also has a masters in statistics. So he has the ability and qualifications to analyse the data put out. He also said that the raw data is collected by some agencies, which is then processed by the rating institutions. And instead of repeatedly saying they no one bothers about these rankings, it would have been better if you had instead said which rankings matter. These agencies spend a lot of money and time to bring these lists, so they must be catering to some customers/ audiences who are willing to pay for them. So who are these customers/ audiences? A very big question, which SG did not bother to answer.
One clarification on the ' foreign agent' tag of the Professor, by Australia and the US. These countries have a law that anyone working for a foreign government, which has the possibility of influencing their respective Public opinion, such persons have to register as ' Foreign agent'. SG conveniently glossed over this important information, and fubbed his way through. Even though the Institute/ organisation the professor worked for as a consultant might/ might not be funded by the government, the least SG could have done is to clarify if it was.

There's a deep seated bruised mindset that SG exhausts himself to explain how bad the situation in India. He compares states with less than 30-million population with one with 130-million and a diversity deeper than the blackhole. First, let's understand who's an intellectual. Is Vardarajan an intellectual or Rana Ayyub for example? Is Arundhuti Roy or Prashant Bhushan or say Mohua Moitra? They each have an axe to grind and their discussion is never on a broad spectrum based on a shred of good behavior. The Modi government has tightened the screws on these personalities and taken on aggressively on the likes of Imran Khan and President Xi. They have sent Abdullahs and Muftis into oblivion from their taxpayer funded lifestyle. The government has attacked the corrupt institutions who survive on undesirable elements. There are other issues that's concerning: nutrition, education, employment and health care. Mind you, many of these are state subjects and it brings to shame the kind of elected governments we have in them. A culture of freebies do not address them. Molallah clinics with Doctors or bare staff to run them. Not Modi's invention! Brush the mindset once in a while like one's house needs to be swept daily. You will see change on the horizon.
If, like everything in India, the government focuses on improving the rankings and not actually improving the situation of the country (same as learning to score better marks in exams rather than understanding), they'll end up working on the technicalities and the rankings may go up without any actual impacts.

It's known fact that any international agency cannot go and do sample survey of common citizen as they are required to do survey of more than 130 countries and within timeframe. The clock is slowly turning. The Professor said something vital. He said that the Indian public intellectuals in their " public persona" are anti-India and not in their hearts. SG is a fierce patriot but has an occupational Dharma to be loyal to or at at least appear to be objective in the eyes of the international brotherhood of intellectuals. Truth is that the world is controlled so far by the erstwhile colonials turned imperialists. They set the global narrative. Every one on the planet knows the truth but it takes time to reverse the narrative. Mao prioritized this aspect and told the west to go to hell. They tucked their tails between their legs and warmed upto him. We need at least a decade of fierce efforts at enhancing our comprehensive national power, relentlessly and ruthlessly assert our case ( come hell or high water ) and then thump the global table. It has started happening. The deracinated westernized elite is Indian after all and they will come around. We should be gracious when they do that. Once the Quislings are shut out the global narrative will lose its edge. The Chinese, Asians and Africans already discount the western folklore. We are one fifth of humanity in numbers. It is our turn to be at the helm.
Shekhar keeps on choosing hunger index point to drive his conclusion. Salvatore babones didn't say that it's an incorrect survey he said that UPA govt before 2014 election sent estimated wasting data rather than real data which actually came in 2015. The data point is being compared based on that estimated data which showed wasting had increased substantially but that wasn't the case.

Come on SG, no one needs a PhD for being entitled as 'intellectual'! Intellect comes from life experiences, deep reflections on those experiences, and having a capability to express such deep reflections to the larger population.
There used to be a time, till mid-20th Century Europe in which PhD holders were called Public Intellectuals. Now, this is forgotten story!

Any nation as densely populated as India will have the same problems as listed in the report. Undoubtedly, there are big areas of improvement but the bigger problem is the fact that it is still fashionable for certain people in the country to project the nation in a bad light. Can't blame the outsiders because it is their "duty" to do so.
A very defensive clarification Mr. Shekhar Gupta about Prof Babones discussion in India Today conclave. Ultimately this guilt trip leads to the substantiation of the very kind of indexes, the ‘intended’ data anamolies and the people involved - Substantiating the very argument that Prof. Babones was making. This being the Freedom Index from Cato institute, data being that on the Religious Freedom and people in the context being personification of intellectual class in India Mr. Swaminathan Aiyar (Brother of Mani Shankar Aiyar).
Although Mr. Shekhar Gupta good heartedly wants us to believe that Cato and Fraser Institutes as centrist non-partisan institutions, he himself conveys that Mr. SA Aiyar is part of the organization - Implying that India’s intellectual liberals with extreme views on Modi have effectively infiltrated these organization and they influence and bias the data consequently its final outcome. And we can easily see that in action with the points on Religious Freedom which has gone down drastically. And it is these intellectuals who lead the data scientists to the data on supposed violations of the government which are in most cases false flag operations conducted by the Indian opposition to manufacture the very data to support the argument (For instance staged attack on a Church or a Mosque). And indivduals like SA Aiyar make sure that such data is highlisghted. And this exactly how the manufactured data enters these indexes. And that is where intellectual dishonesty comes into play...

Salvatore has given given rebuttal to this episode of shekhar gupta on #AustraliaToday RUclips channel. And ironically he found that #Shekhar and his team has not read the freedom index data correctly. Or #Shekhar is being ignorant intentionally. But mistake hasn't been corrected in this video.
There was no clutter in Salvatore' s talk. He has shown mirror to pseudo intellectuals like SG. A thousand CTC by SG are not going to help therefore
You invite him for a debate and when his findings make so called intellectuals uncomfortable, their fear of narrative cultivated could crumble sends shivers down their spine.
