      They were everywhere. I used to hear them thundering up the hill from Warnervale to Wyong..

    As a callboy in the 70's, there was nothing like the sound of a GM throttleing up :)

    Great vid - you could say that that train was slightly overpowered!!! :-)

    Killing me to watch this. My OCD needs them in numerical order!

    I found it interesting that in the second scene, that 44219 had been relocated from front to rear of train set.

      That would probably be due to the change in direction at Binnaway, having top and tail formation would make the change a lot quicker

    Beautiful trains it's a shame only 10 are still running, the rest where scrapped.

    How many loco's would need to be powered to run a 15 loco 'train set'?

      I don't really know but about 3 I would think.

    Could’ve put them in numerical order 😂
    Were they A7EL or 26L ?

    Would it be silly of me to assume that 42201 was being saved for posterity?

  • @Blime2913
    @Blime2913 2 года назад +1

    I'm sure some of the 442's were workable enough to be relegated to stunting duties & (emergence rail power units) or even (hospital transfer locomotives) being just used to haul rolling stock that requires maintenance, instead of just 10 a lot more of the 442 units could have still be used in some way
    to better free up more modern yunger powerful locomotives to the main line duties.

      Sadly id guess so. Surely a few will be saved though.

      Most will still be used for many years....sold doesn't mean scrapped.....there are many rail companies and some of them use way older loco's than this.

      About 75% of the class are still around in some form!

      It would make an interesting project, hooking them up to dual fuel, diesel and gas injection.

    42’s, 81’s 86’s, G’s and BL’s! What’s the difference?

    • @petermiddleton8704
      @petermiddleton8704 Год назад

      BL is South Australian I think, G are Victorian, 86s is an electric class, 422s is an upgraded version of 44s, 442s are upgrades of 422s, 81s are updated versions of both as 42220 was the test bed for majority components of 81s
