Streamliners 2022 - Celebrating old Australian diesel locomotives - Featuring Bernie Baker

- Australia’s Railways has a long and rich history of Electro-Motive Diesel Locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, and used by many of the state’s former Government Railways, a vast number of which still continue to operate revenue service on the mainline with now private operators in many forms, such as freight trains, works trains and heritage rail tours. Much loved by railwaymen and railway enthusiasts for their aesthetically pleasing streamlined ‘bulldog’ noses and the noises generated by their EMD power plants, these locomotives continue to be a savoured sight and sound anytime they venture onto the mainline.
This video visits Streamliners Australia 2022, the largest gathering of these diesel locomotives in Australia, and celebrates the history and legacy of these locomotives, both in their form as a recognisable workhorse on Australia’s railways, as well as the may model forms they may be replicated in, such as model locomotives or miniature scaled down model engineering replicas. We also look at preserved locomotive CL17 (Formerly CLP10), acquired and restored by the Streamliners Australia team, this ambitious project hopes to preserve and run the last ever built EMD streamlined locomotive in the world!
Famed Train Driver of television series “Railroad Australia”, Bernie Baker, tells the story of his passion for EMD Locomotives, as the lead organiser of this event, and narrates this documentary through an interview with him as well as many other parties who make up this event.

Love Australians spirit in keeping old things alive. So many people these days throw things as soon as they have a couple years on the clock.
Wow mate. You nailed this, super underrated content! Thank you for sharing this, and subbed!
Hey man! I’m chuffed you’ve made it across here to check out my stuff! Thanks for the feedback and look foreward to any future cross Indian Ocean alliances 😂
(If you’re into steam, check out the Newport video too!)
Wonderful video. Appreciate all the work that went into this. 👌 So many impressive locos! 😃
Heeeyyy Adam! Thank you so much for the appreciation of the editing, and yes it took a while! I just watched your Cairns Kuranda video and as someone who hasn't actually been on it yet, it's prompted me to do the trip next time I'm up there. Thanks again! (I'll leave a comment there too just to help your stats)
How amazing is this production creator?! Where have you been hiding all this time?!
Thanks Divergent! I've also greatly enjoyed your work and photography documenting the Victorian railways! Check out the Junee video too if you haven't seen that already
@@Rheilffordd I'll see if I can check it out when I'm less busy!
Awesome video. And thanks to all the great people involved in preserving these amazing locomotives 👍
Great video good models too luvved it good too see Bernie Baker again ..driver on my Riverina vintage rail trip ..2021
Hi Barbara, thank you for your feedback, feel free to share the video to your friends! :)
Thanks for your efforts on this one. Most enjoyable
Hi Graham! Thanks for watching and appreciating the effort!
It’s great hearing the passion from the interviews
Hi Michael, and thanks for the feedback! This is what this channel is about, trying to tell more of the story of our transport heritage from those involved with making it happen!
Check out our other videos as well 😁
Great video.
Thanks Wes!
@Rheilffordd Is this a annual event??
@@wezza60 Unfortunately not! The first Streamliners was held in 2016, then this event held in 2022. Organising an event like this (Particularly when a lot of it is Bernie Baker and a small team) takes ALOT of effort!
@Rheilffordd I'd imagine it would be, Bernie ìs a tireless advocate for the classic streamliners in active preservation, we are very lucky to have him around. I remember the late Rob Fry, a close friend and Engineman himself held Bernie in high regard😊
Hey buddy - I did see you there! The event was amazing
Hi Joe, indeed it was, let's hope another one happens in the future!
Wow well done.
I was in hospital so I couldn't attend but you made me feel like I went.
Hi David, I am glad to give you the feel of this wonderful event, and hope you have since recovered!
Good train video
Thank you! Noodle 🍜
Great video love streamlines . My father was a engine drive he was lucky enough to have started on steam than moving on to diesel power from Dubbo than moved to Sydney and was based at Delec. Where he still drove steam but they were on the outer . He told me he’d rather drive diesel’s than steam and as kid I use to go to work with him on the odd accession. Before all this OHS.
Thanks Mark for the feedback. Your father must be a rarity in enjoying diesel more than steam!
Yes I have lots of story's about my father as a child I use to spend a lot of time in Dubbo with my grandparents so that mental lots and lots of train trips. With Dad knowing some many drivers we spent a lot of time in the cab with drivers evan in the silver city comet.
Just like in the states
2 oars + 4 oars = 6 oars.
That was of course an Oar sum. Like this video. ;-)
Thanks EMD B67! I suspect this video would have been right up your alley.
Rowing is also a great sport.... truly oar-inspiring.
@@Rheilffordd With your multifaceted transportational interests, I figured my word-play didn't need to be confined to only ferroequinological terms. ;-)
En Mexico esas locomotoras las conocemos como chatas
¡Hola KCSM_1200! Cuando te refieres a 'chatas', ¿te refieres a aburridas o planas?
Ojalá no quieras decir eso 😜
(When you mean 'chatas', do you mean boring or flat?
Hopefully you don't mean that 😜)
(I understand now, and yes, Mexico did operate many examples of the EMD locomotives like the F7, which all look pretty stunning!
Another peculiar locomotive Mexico had was the ALCO FA ('World Locomotive'), which was also built in Australia under license as well, and was the "44 Class" or "930 Class" depending on the operator.
Just as a survey as well, did you view this video with the subtitles/captions auto translated in Spanish, or did you watch it in English? I am curious to see how international viewers are able to watch my videos.
Thank you for your time sir! 😁)
(Ah yes the ALCO Century 628! Only a handful of these were built under license in Australia for a isolated iron ore railway in Western Australia, but I do recall they're prevalent in Mexico and the United States. One is preserved you are correct!
Thank you for viewing my videos by the way! All my documentary videos have subtitles/closed captions for you to be able to Auto-Translate, so by all means have a watch of them and I hope you enjoy them too! Stay in touch sir!)
Just a pity that there was no A class
Although A Classes are indeed streamlined locomotives…. how do you suggest they get one to Goulburn? Abit of a track gauge problem there 😜
@@Rheilffordd several are now preserved and like the B and S class can take SG bogies - though due to emissions legislation, an A would have to be dead attached .... Nevertheless would complete the collection if it could be done!
