- Join us as we travel aboard the first electric train to finally depart Gawler Central Railway Station, at 6:25am on the 12th June 2022, after 18 months of the line's closure to finish the much anticipated electrification project. In this video, we enjoy the line's inaugural day back in service, look back on the history of this much delayed project, speak to many political identities involved in the project, and overall celebrate the introduction of an improved public transport service to the people of Adelaide and South Australia.
The recently completed Gawler Rail Electrification Project is a long awaited public transport infrastructure initiative by the South Australian State Government to progressively electrify the Gawler Railway Line, a 42km suburban railway line from Adelaide to the Northern suburban limit of Gawler. Initially announced in 2008, it has taken 14 years, with alot of instagnation along the way, to finally reach this milestone and to now provide the people North of Adelaide with a wonderful, clean, quiet and reliable public transport service.

Kudla- Well done Maikha! Nice to see you moving onto moving pictures!
As someone who spent many frustrating hours getting the Seaford line operational, I’m very pleased to (eventually) see the Gawler line operating as an electric railway.
Hi Andrew, thanks for the kind words and indeed it is great to see the project finally serving the needs of the people!
Kudla, what a great video!

A couple of years ago I saved the double headed Pichi Richi Railway listening stop video and never thought to checkout the other videos you did. Super glad I finally decided to check them out!

Kudla - And Tambelin! Cheers for reaching out to me at Im From Gawler. Gave this vid a share and a big thumbs up. I said i live at Tambelin station, funny thing is, i used to lived at Kudla station too. A BIG 2 story house right opposite the station! So the train have been a massive part of my Gawler life. Keep up the good work!
Hi Daniel, and thanks for the share and feedback!
I am glad that Kudla Station has played a part in your life! It’s easy to question the existence of this station with so few residences around it however it’s great to see it’s important role being fulfilled!
Great video! Thanks!
G'day Philip, many thanks for that! I'm actually a fan of your channel and your Melbourne based content as well, the West Heidelberg video was a favourite for me!
@@Rheilffordd Oh thanks! I do like Adelaide a lot so looking forward to seeing more from your channel :)

Great story telling. I liked the technical tid-bits, just enough to keep it factual and engaging. Kudla
Thanks Joe, much appreciated! See you next time!
Kudla thank you for this video.
My pleasure Alan!
Kudla, well done mate great video, like the voiceover and interviews.
Thanks Davio
@@Rheilffordd no dramas mate was thinking on the visit but ended up chasing the duke instead
Kudla, my friend hehe 😉. Another brilliant presentation, M! Well done! Looking forward to the videos of your pommy steam trips. 👌😍
You’ve got such a photogenic voice for documentary styled productions, Maikha, I’m looking forward to more of your productions by far.
Such a momentous occasion by far and you’ve certainly covered it well. Top marks, young Sir!
The invitation is still open to come and play trains at my place, my friend. By October I’m hopeful that’ll I’ll have the garden line setup. Just need to kick this awful glandular fever, second time having it in seven years. How did I get so lucky lol 😆.
Keep well.
Regards, Caleb
Hi Caleb, thank you for the kind feedback and indeed I will be in touch about coming and playing trains! I am busy with my real job atm 😭
A wonderful train! Love it😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thanks Daniel! Feel free to check out our other videos
Great vid maybe soon we'll see electrification of the Outer Harbor line for us forgotten passengers in the north west.
Kudos Maikha, I mean Kudla! Well produced and informative. Next target, Sydney's new NIFs. We'll give you a shout once they're operational. So you have heaps of time to plan ahead. Cheers, Hoges. 😉
Thanks Hoges! Find me on social medias and keep me posted how the NIFs (Or anything else over there) go.
I’m more worried about the withdrawal of my beloved V-Sets over there 😭
Kudla, also known as Dalkeith. Love the quality of vid :)
Hi Kpen! Thanks for the feedback, hopefully you’ve subscribed for more future content
Dalkeith Melbourne? 🤔
Amazing video production. Felt like a BBC documentary. Kudla!
Thank you Nathan, that means a lot, simply because that was the vibe I was inspired by and wanted to recreate!
Adelaide's premiere station.. Kudla!
🤣🤣
I should do a Geoff Marshall style “least used stations Adelaide!”
Great video, I live at Kudla.
Thank you Sandra! Do you ever use the railway station nearby?
Feel free to share this video with your neighbours who might get a kick seeing your locale featured 😁
14 years ist Adelaide's longest infrastructure time lag overrun. Oaklands train underpass of 50 years but the winner in the continuous South Road which dates back to the 1960s.
The government swing back and forth and stopped started.
Hi Michael! Living here for a while now, I’ve become accustomed to the SA State Government not being able to do anything right when it comes to infrastructure 😜
Kudla! Just stumbled across this, and as a first railway documentary, this is excellent! Had a quick look at your channel and I think if you properly return to it with decently regular uploads in the quality of this video, it‘ll be well successful!
Greetings from far-away Germany!
Gluten Tag! Thank you for your kind feedback and your encouragement to grow this channel, I am inspired to try after the response of this video.
I would love to visit Germany one day and cover old trains and trams over there 😁
@@Rheilffordd Don‘t know if the added „l“ in the greeting was a joke or not, but in any case, there is some interesting stuff to see here, albeit not as easily in Britain for example. Germany has very few heritage railways, most historic locomotives either sit in museums or are run on main line tours. One good way to see steam in regular service though, is to visit the many narrow-gauge lines in the Harz mountains, in Saxony, and those on the Baltic Sea coast.
Well done South Australia it took a while a long while but it is now finished , Now it is time to extend it
Thanks Daryle! Extend it to where? 😛
Awesome just in time for power cuts!
Haha, the timing is uncanny isn’t it?
Love love LOVE the video! I'm just sorry for that seriously degraded footage of mine! Should've known better than to have sent it over via messenger.
Edit: oh right... KUDLA!
Don’t be sorry! I appreciate it nonetheless and fair to say other footage I used was worse than that 🤣
It took Perth three years to electrify the whole network.
It's fair to say Perth's network is grades above Adelaide's particularly with all the investment in infrastructure atm!
Well a year has passed and I wonder how it's all going for the Gawler line?
Hi Antony and good query!
It took slightly over a year, the last electric train set has been delivered and will be in service very soon, providing complete electric train service on the line.
I tried it the first time city to Salisbury then transferred to the 560 onto Elizabeth then the same on the reverse was impressed.Putting up for 18 months on the J1 PLUS A ONE OFF GA3 was not fun RETURNING to the city using 560 to Tea Tree Plaza then a M44 onwards sucked.
In China a project such as that would have taken 3 weeks tops. It's like the South Road expressway between Hindmarsh and Darlington, the North South expressway was started decades ago and it's still not completed billions of dollars later, it's a joke
Hi Blake, you'll want to see today's announcement by the Transport Minister then ;)
Kudla, I actually have a friend who lives out there.
A lot of nice big blocks of land out there!
People that live in front of Nth Adelaide station
Them: OpEn ThE sTaTiOn NoW pLeAsE 🙏
Hey Artist eater!
North Adelaide station is open, however yes, services are abit substandard!
@@Rheilffordd
I do know that it doesn’t run on weekend but service on weekday 1 service per hour during the week but not weekends
kudla
I hate how something as simple as an electricification of 1 railway line took years and blew way over budget.😂
Same, both as a taxpayer as well as seeing very inept Government departments mismanaging these projects
Kudla
3 car sets. theres the problem.
I have a running joke….
That one eight car double decker Sydney train can carry all of Adelaide’s commuters into town in the morning, and then take them all back home later in the evening 😂
