I think Louis is really good at visualizing the thought process the typical human goes through in most daily situations. He's really good at seeing both sides of the picture which is how he's able to write stuff like this. It is surprisingly difficult to create an authentic piece of dialogue or interaction, one that doesn't seem rushed, and because of Louis' style he's allowed to lower the pace or speed it up when he needs to, not like other mainstream shows where it's 100 mph all the time straight to the punchline. Life and people are meandering and everything doesn't always make sense. It's a relief to finally have some shows that reflect that.
Ah, yea, I think you're exactly right. I remember a joke of his where he talks about sitting in 1st class of a plane and he sees an Army personnel board the plane -- a young guy -- and how in his head he thinks about the idea of offering up his seat, but of course never does. I think stuff like this really shows his knowledge of the inside dialogue we often have with ourselves.
"life and people are meandering and everything doesn't always make sense" Pretty much sums up how amazingly awkward life is most of the time, I like that.
The real thing that makes this line genius, is the way Louie has to take a deep breath after this brief moment of self reflection, and loses his train of thought. You cant write this stuff, you have to live it
The reason that it's funny is because a human knows both sides of the conversation. They know what it's like to be in the weird time of love and most if not all men know how it feels to be Louie trying to get someone out of their league. But like all comedy it is exaggerated like how the joke being on Louie is. For something to be funny the joke has to be "at" someone, in this case it's how we laugh at Louie for being so incredibly unconfident towards himself. That is where the jokes come from.
Comedian, writer, director aside, c.k. Is also a natural actor. After she walks away, his réaction is perfect. I actually felt i was experiencing the joy and surprise myself.
He sets it up too. Earlier in the episode he jokes about the fist-pump. In most sports, you have teammates you give a high-five to, but when you're alone in sports like tennis, you can only fist-pump to celebrate.
Man Louie as a comedian is a pro but as an actor he is crazy underrated... That look on his face after she says yes is EXACTLY what it's like man, he's so real in that moment... I'm going to Google how much Tom Cruise made for doing The Mummy and have a good laugh
Have you seen his ex-wife? She's beautiful as hell. As his current woman. He's pretty good in fighting his fatness, baldness and general ugliness with his tongue :)
It's not his fault the only way he could orgasm is to pressure female comics who want a chance on a show to stay in the room with him as he tries to masterbate. Louie Anderson gets to orgasm all the time, why not CK?
I love that feeling when you really want to ask her out but you're not sure if you should and you wait a while to ask but eventually you just go for it and it doesn't matter if she says no because you maned the F up and asked.
It honestly does get to that point where you’re thinking, I do not care what the answer is I just need to get this out ahaha, then when it’s a yes you think, God why did I spend so long agonising over it? Ah man it’s fun :)
God dude, Louie is such a talent. Not many people can write/act a scene like this and have it play totally earnest, capturing all of the uncomfortable nuance of real life interactions, while also managing to come off so endearing. Woody Allen was the master ofc, but the fact that Louis can really make you FEEL a scene like this proves that he's way more than just an imitator. And all that while also being one of the funniest people on the planet... God, I miss this show.
Yeh, and he also apparently chooses which cameras and lenses to shoot with, curates the music, edits the show, etc, he is a super underrated director...
I hope he can find more success after flushing his career down the toilet with multiple sexual allegations. Woody Allen, another wonderful human, just ask his daughter and other young girls he molested and assaulted. 👍
Although he's playing a version of himself it is pretty good acting a well. "nice job on the asking out" What a simple, pleasant thing to say. I've been out of the dating scene for 30 years now, but folks certainly didn't say things like that when I dated in the 80's and early 90's. It was usually either, "sure let's fuck" or "fuck off".
Parker Posey's reactions while he's talking helped really sell this scene. Damn shame Louie got lumped in with Weinstein and Cosby, can't wait for his return!
@@robi6317 asking permission to jerk off in front of a woman and drugging a girl and raping her while she is passed out are nowhere near the same thing. This isn't apples to oranges.
@@butch2811 YES they ARE 2 very different things, however he was doing it to women opening for his act for one thing. and its still creepy ass behavior. he did what he did and women dont tend to like it. therefore he got outed for being a creepy weirdo, vs just doing what he does in this very video.
lmao I feel like these scenes are just Louis getting to act out his fantasies cuz in reality his awkwardness and cringe is not endearing and will never work on women, so he directs it in a way that he acts his own self but the women miraculously complies.
I love the way they hold that painfully long, level two-shot while Louie shoots his shot, but then when he's done the camera switches to low angle close ups of both characters in quite shallow depth of field making them really pop against the background. It's like it's saying, here are two people on roughly the same level, and then Louie completes his proposition and suddenly they're both feeling kinds of "bigger", and "better" about themselves. Or we're seeing each one as the other sees them: kind of high-status, individuals of worth. I like that.
By the way guys, don't do this lmao. If she doesn't want to go out, kissing ass and pre-apologizing won't work. They gotta want you already at least a little bit. That's where your effort needs to be directed: making yourself appealing before popping the question.
"I dont go out with guys based on looks." Wish that was more common though. Hard to have that mindset these days due to the effects of dating apps on dating trends. Maybe it was more common back "in the old days."
That's not going to happen in your lifetime (or ever for that matter), so you better grow some balls and confidence instead of hoping that women will pity-fuck you because "you are such a nice guy".
I feel like you've also gotta judge the situation. Earlier in the episode or series ( I don't remember exactly when ) he talks to this woman. This clip makes it seem like you can just ask any chick out at any time and that isn't completely true. If you take into consideration earlier scenes though, this is indeed realistic.
Conto, not on the show though. On the show he's a semi-successful comedian who makes "around 80,000 a year" and has $7,000 in savings, and the character, Liz, has no way of knowing how much money he makes and does not know he's a comedian. How well this worked depends on what type of woman you approach. On the show Louis is accepted and rejected on a solid 50-50 rate, which seems pretty realistic to me. It's just that as a comedy show, the acceptance is especially victorious and the refusal is exceptionally brutal, like in the first episode where Chelsea Peretti jumps aboard a helicopter to get away from him.
The only way this scene works is Parker Posey absolutely nailing her reactions. Yes, Louie is brilliant and yes she's beautiful but without her performance here, this scene falls apart. So much respect for that woman.
don't ever try to speak to a woman you don't know a lot with logic, it doesn't work out, speak to her trough emotions, you'll see a huge difference in your social life.
She looks younger and hotter, so she could get pleasant looking, fit guys in their 30's. He might not know her exact age, and he's acknowledging that. It's good form!
When he says, 'can I talk to you for a minute' and he walks her 20 feet to a new space, makes no sense, but also makes total sense. As if changing location would somehow make it less awkward and it is his attempt to control his own awkwardness, which in the end he doesn't even need to control because he got the date. I am 99% sure Louis wrote that out intentionally. The genius of this guy to point out subtleties to human behavior is next level.
The whole character arc with Liz is fantastic. She really elevated the show into something else. The whole "I'm not going to jump" scene is maybe the high point of the show... especially when contrasted with how it all ends.
This isn't even funny to me dude, this is my life.

"nice job on the asking out" What a simple, pleasant thing to say. I've been out of the dating scene for 30 years now, but folks certainly didn't say things like that when I dated in the 80's and early 90's. It was usually either, "sure let's fuck" or "fuck off".
We all know Louie likes a more direct route than this. It hasn't worked well for him.
Louis' a great actor. Like really.
he's not acting. He's just reflecting how we truly are at this age
He's not acting.
Parker Posey's reactions while he's talking helped really sell this scene. Damn shame Louie got lumped in with Weinstein and Cosby, can't wait for his return!
he didnt get lumped in, he earned it.

@@QuartuvLarry yeah he kinda did
lmao I feel like these scenes are just Louis getting to act out his fantasies cuz in reality his awkwardness and cringe is not endearing and will never work on women, so he directs it in a way that he acts his own self but the women miraculously complies.
Nah, this works. I've done it, its worked for me. I mean these scenes are super extra dramatic, but not far fetched.
All my girlfriends and my current wife went through this from me.
It works.

This is why you don't approach women who read. They know things. Dangerous things.
Your head must've been spinning. You must've said something offensive, on a global scale.
Been there and done this it was exactly the same. Ended up married
Parker Posey is so ridiculously talented as an actress it just makes you wonder why we don't see more of her.
I don't even ask anymore!
How to successfully ask a woman for a date:
Create a show, become the director and basically force her to stick to the script and you're done 🤣🤣🤣
His Matt Damon story on sorry is just that...
not as comedic or charming when you do this in highschool and include the line "bald and lumpy"
Brah went all in and it didn't blow up in his face....that's how you know this was scripted
By the way guys, don't do this lmao. If she doesn't want to go out, kissing ass and pre-apologizing won't work. They gotta want you already at least a little bit. That's where your effort needs to be directed: making yourself appealing before popping the question.
After that, I'd say yes! This wasn't cringed, it was sweet.
"I dont go out with guys based on looks." Wish that was more common though. Hard to have that mindset these days due to the effects of dating apps on dating trends. Maybe it was more common back "in the old days."
I can confirm that every guy does that fist up then down thing when a girl says yes
we wanna see that shit. let us see it
Haha if that actually worked, ALL men would get laid.
That's not going to happen in your lifetime (or ever for that matter), so you better grow some balls and confidence instead of hoping that women will pity-fuck you because "you are such a nice guy".
notthere83 it does work brotha...confidence will get you laid
He has a net worth of 25 million dollars. Maybe that increases the efficiency.
It's just that as a comedy show, the acceptance is especially victorious and the refusal is exceptionally brutal, like in the first episode where Chelsea Peretti jumps aboard a helicopter to get away from him.
now if only he had modified his real life courting technique...
She's so beautiful 😍🤗❤️💋
one of the most beautiful soundtracks ever
The only way this scene works is Parker Posey absolutely nailing her reactions. Yes, Louie is brilliant and yes she's beautiful but without her performance here, this scene falls apart. So much respect for that woman.
You could argue that the scene nearly falls apart in the minute after she leaves the frame.
Bet she wasn't told what the actual dialogue is going to be like. Her reactions look unrehearsed.
@@sca8217 There's no way she didn't see the script before shooting, that just doesn't happen.

How to ask a girl out: Put it in the script that she says yes.
don't ever try to speak to a woman you don't know a lot with logic, it doesn't work out, speak to her trough emotions, you'll see a huge difference in your social life.
He says that she's young and he's not, but they're only 1 year apart.
She looks younger and hotter, so she could get pleasant looking, fit guys in their 30's. He might not know her exact age, and he's acknowledging that. It's good form!
this one works only if you're Louie C.K.
Such hilarious exaggeration yet a decent hint of realism in his comedy. Love it
This show was outstanding.
What show is it?
