What are thoughts on the normalization of auto-bed leveling? Something in me wants a printer with all the bells and whistles, but the manual nature of older printers feels like I can keep them forever and these newer printers have more of a shelf-life.
"Auto Bed leveling" is sort of a misnomer in a way. With bed leveling your not really "leveling" the bed to be perfectly flat, but more leveling the bed to the printers nozzle. With ABL the system takes down X number of points on the bed (varies with model) and self adjusted the nozzles high as it prints. Like the Elegoo Neptune 3 or the new Neptune 4, are clones of a Crealitly printer. They have a touch sensor in the nozzles mount, and probe like 32 points of data across the bed. You do nothing to the bed itself, the machine will auto correct for whatever warps, deformities are in the bed itself (they never ship perfectly flat anyways) during your print. So it is "true" auto bed leveling.
With the older printers there is the BLtouch you can add for "auto" bed leveling, it does a similar thing and probes 16 points on the bed and then shows you on the printers screen what screws/nuts need how many turns. Then you re-do the thing over again to confirm you got it right and repeat the process till your happy. So its not "true" auto bed leveling like the newer machines do.
