Great Job Pete. It looks like somebody was hungover when that PureOne was made. At least the media was comparable though the Carquest was cheaper. Since she only puts about 1500 miles on it a year, I'll probably stick with the Carquest blue. Thanks again Pete!
Chinese made oil filter built quality just keeps getting better and better. It seems that the North American made oil filters built quality hasn’t kept up.
Thanks Jim! Your donation is appreciated. These two filters are an example of appearances can be deceiving. The Purolator looks good on the outside but sloppy on the inside, while the Carquest looks better internally but plain on the outside. I try not to buy anything made in China but in this case the one made in USA looks awful.
Purolator has the fancy paintjob but ugly on the insides ! ....maybe they should spend the money on better materials & workmanship instead of a nice pretty can !

Carquest “Blue” filters used to be made by Wix. Then Mann+Hummel became the parent company for manufacturing oil filters. After Advance Auto Parts bought Carquest who knows what is going on?
Ok... Mann filters have become crap. Sure, teflon coat the gasket, but pleats don't go the edge of the caps, the spacing is like a jack o lantern, and it looks like a 2 year old applied the glue... Brand is meaningless, all the Mann filters appear more like this. Its just horrific, especially at that money. Then to be beat out by a carquest china filter. Embarrassing.
I pretty much lost faith in purolator oil filters seeing this video and past videos ! I was suspecting sloppy glue ! Its not what they used to be specially for the price ! Sad the made in china carquest is the better filter and probably costs less - coil spring and better filter media ! Nice video ! 👍👍👍
So far ever BOSS filter that I have used has been superb in construction and quality control. I don’t use any of their other oil filters so I can’t comment on their quality.
The Car Quest is probably a Champ Lab filter. Champ Labs gives all the material and assembly guidelines to the Chinese Filter Mfg. If Champ Labs does good QC att eh Mfg sight, they will make a product just as well as one assembled in America.
I think that Purolator uses ptfe treated nitrile?? .. where as these Premium Guard products are silicone afaik.. The Premium Guard Carquest looks like they were paying a little extra attention to all aspects of production.
Carquest fabric is made in China with a good design company and bad out performance filtering. Puralator has better material already quality check. Do not be deceiving by the design while the filtering hides the truth after 3k mileages. You need to make another video using the same filters into the same car. And you would be quite surprised.
It would not shock me what Mann Hummel may have in store for Wix and Purolator brands. More and more of Wix oil filters are being produced in China instead of their North Carolina plant. I used to use Wix pretty much exclusively for my personal equipment but not so much anymore. I run the BOSS on several engines and so far every single one of them has been impressive in build quality.
Thanks for sharing this one. I just bought a few of the new Carquest premiums as I couldn't pass up the price. I assumed made in USA like previous CQ filters I've used but not the case now. They're identical in construction to this filter here. This is Advances newest creation on the premium side. Heard from an industry insider I know outside of Advance that it's built in Wix's new and most state of the art plant in China. Wix and Purolator all owned by Mann Hummel now. Advance true to their word in offering a premium filter proven right here. I enjoy your vids. Keep up the good work!
I would take the Carquest by the slightest of margins. Holes over louvers and oil spring (preference) over stamped metal retainer spring. Good that both these mid-level filters have silicone anti-drainback valves and gaskets.
Thanks,I’m also, use BOSS ,on my two vehicles: though my POINT S ( HELENA Mt) Shop switches to VALVOLINE programs ( incl VALVOLINE Filter ); & is mid-Chamge interval out new Boss Purolator on both,.,,,(at age 76 years young, ,I decided to let PROFESSIONALS do oil changes, Etc,)…..
It's ridiculous the Pur 1 looks sloppy, yet when it comes to the Boss, it's a much better filter. Granted you pay more, but still it's hard to justify the lower standards. Carquest premium are really good filters, but i'm sticking with the Purolator Boss every other oil change.
You do great reviews. I’m surprised of the extra glue to seal the media to the metal for the Purolator filter. That should not be there. The thickness of the metal case to me is not important. The case will never blow apart and leak with engine oil pressures. The media and silicone drain back gasket are the most important to me. Keep up the good reviews.
I am less concerned about how clean and pretty the filter looks or how much of a gap is in between the pleats. The real test is how well they actually filter contaminants out of the oil. How much oil can flow with the lowest restriction and how much capacity to hold the contaminants. There’s a much better way to determine a filter’s actual performance of keeping your oil and engine protected than simply cutting it open and taking simple visual measurements of can and filter. While I appreciate the informational content, it’s not what I use to determine best oil filtration filter for my cars.
I avoid their products as much as it’s practically possible. It’s nothing but absolute greed that causes manufacturers to ignore China’s human rights abuses, pollution, and their dabbing in deadly bio weapons that killed millions of people worldwide. Their communist regime is as bad as N. Korea yet our corrupt politicians have sold their souls and our country for money from the Communist government. Whenever I can I will not buy their products but unfortunately they have bankrupted many American manufacturers that simply cannot compete with slave labor, few regulations, and currency manipulation. I’ve got a cemetery full of relatives who fought and some gave their lives fighting against Communism .
They'll both work. They'll filter the oil, they'll bypass if there's too much pressure, they won't disintegrate into the engine, the can walls won't rupture, neither will fly off the threaded nipple. They'll just work and a driver won't tell the difference. Neither will lead to longer engine life over the other for the typical driver. I'll pick a US made product over a Chinese product every day of the week, though. No sense giving money to people who want to harm us.
On "appearance" alone, the CQ Blue looks better made. That said, unlike some, the excess potting on the P1, doesn't concern me. Be nice if it was cleaner looking though. The P1 sealing gasket PTFE coated nitrile, at least that's what it has been. Being familiar with the price for both, the CQ Blue is the winner. It's much like the Microgard Select without the fancy texture can, and much lower cost. Probably a Premium Guard made filter too. While I would use either filter and prefer the P1 coo, the CQ Blue is the better value. Thanks for the vid.

More filter media area will trap more contaminates with better flow through.
Easy choice - Buy American for American. But that is harder than it sounds.

I like the Carquest oil filter better because of the larger holes in the inner core..... probably better flow.
4:40 ,the Purolator has a big gap just as big as the gap in Stacey Abrams front teeth, probably just as nasty inside too
🤣
Hahaha.
Whip.. You should burn these two gaskets and see what you get just for the heck of it.
I do burn a Purolator One oil filter gasket coming up soon.

Saw this a couple days too late. Just bought the same purolator filter in bulk for our 2 Mazdas. So much for American made "quality"
The Purolator in this video is still a good oil filter.
This one has to be a Tie. Puralator has more filter media and car quest better build.
The Purolator filter has a nitrile rubber gasket that is coated with PTFE, i.e. "Teflon." It's not silicone.
Yep, I made a mistake
