    Hey. Just to let you know that the thermal paste getting separated into solid and oil is part of something called "pump out effect". Thin thermal compounds suffer from this problem when applied to naked dies. The silicon and heatsink expand and contract at different rates with the heat cycles. After hundreds of cycles, the thermal compound is "pushed" to the corners of the die and it stops working. This is an extremely common cause of damaged GPUs on laptops and old ATI cards.
    Make sure that you use thick thermal compound (example, TFX or Honeywell TPM7950). The later one is used by Lenovo and it's insanely good for laptops and naked die application, but hard to get.
    Stay safe friend. Cheers from Portugal

    • @looks-suspicious
      @looks-suspicious 2 года назад +3

      @@kyoudaiken That's the exact opposite of what you should be recommending in this case! TG Kryonaut is a high performance compound with very small particles, and was designed for short term use and extreme overclocking. It suffers from a very strong pump-out effect and must be re-applied regularly!
      For this very reason, TG has the Hydronaut compound on offer, which is slightly worse in terms of heat conductivity, but much better for long-term use.

    I stuck a heatsink on the bridge chip of my 3850 AGP as well, it gets insanely hot. As for Quake 2 inconsistencies, that game, and all Q2 engine games become quite inconsistent with higher CPU speed. The engine simply wasn't written to handle CPU's that fast.
    Also, remember that socket 939 uses the same cooler mounting as AM2, AM3 and the first gen AM4. What I do is buy a silent new AM4 cooler such as an arctic Freezer and use it on my 939 build. That way it's quiet but keeps the CPU stable, cool and safe.

      Try to check some HW stores. Sometimes you can find old stock coolers for old cards. I have found some like that. But not very cheap. Or just measure the pitch of the holes and try to salavge one from a dead card - In case the AGP bridge is on the back side and not obstructing in the front you can use various coolers even from PCI-E cards. I think some old GeForce 6xxx and 7xxx series might have compatible coolers. But not sure...

    You can modify current heatsink to not touch that capacitor. Just file that fin until it is not touching. Or bend it a little bit to a side.

    • @necro_ware
      @necro_ware  2 года назад +3

      Yes, this is what I actually did, I slightly bent it to the side. It's barely touching the capacitor and good enough for now.

  • @GigAHerZ64
    @GigAHerZ64 2 года назад +6

    To me, these results indicate cpu bottleneck - older benchmarks run with higher framerates in general and that is more easily bottlenecked by cpu. That explains, why newer benchmarks show bigger gains. They run, in general, at lower framerates.
    You could test that theory to see, if higher resolution and color depth would create bigger gains? (as you would lower the average fps of older benchmarks this way)

  • @Torbjorn.Lindgren
    @Torbjorn.Lindgren 2 года назад +3

    A little bit of Dremel action should sort out the GPU heatsink... Just remove an cm or so of that "fin" that press against the capacitor, it should be quick and safe to do with the heatsink off.

    • @necro_ware
      @necro_ware  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, thanks for the suggestion. I actually bent the fin of the cooler a little bit to the side, so it currently barely touches the capacitor. It's a "good enough" solution until I have something better...

    about the pcie to agp bridge, I've not done this to those chips specifically but I have used hot glue to hold and stabilize heatsinks that would otherwise rock or dont have any native mounting. The glue is non conductive, solid and melts at a much higher temperature than pc chips get. Mostly used on northbridges and routers without exposed dies.

    but you're wrong in one aspect: that war in real began 8+ years ago and most of europeans preffered to close their eyes on it. and kept them closed for 8 yeaes. why did you open them only now? civilians were killed everyday those 8 bloody years. but those were wrong civilians, aren't they?

      I didn't close my eyes, but followed that conflict seriously. Without going now into the question of guilt, that was still a conflict. Of course every innocent victim is terrible, but in the year 2021 eight people died due to that conflict, half of which were killed by mines. On the other hand in the last three months by different reports 25k-45k people lost their lives, over 360 children died, more than 3k children were injured, hundred thousandths lost their homes, 4,5 millions are on the run. The conflict in Donbass stands already in no relation to this short period of time. Not talking about what happened to Russia in that three months. Once I loved that country, now it doesn't exist anymore, only fashists dictatorship with an own Zwastika and endless hate. Nothing else.

    • @borodaevkirill7371
      @borodaevkirill7371 2 года назад +1

      time will show. I'm sure you will change your POV (if you're not in Poland). at least at the way that one of the parties leas this war. only in Donetsk for those 8 years 117 children were killed. And the count grows almost everyday, although Donetsk itself lays not on the combat line and ordinary civilians (most of people there) try to live ordinary lives.
      military men have to divide people to two categories ("tagets" and "civs"), but at some reason one party don't care about it at all. and I'm pretty sure they're just having fun firing mortars just inside that city and any other city over combat line.

      Thank you very much too. I'm so sorry about what happened to your country. I'm active as a volunteer here in Germany and just today helped a family from Kharkiv moving to a new flat. They were heavily injured in a bombshell 😢 Please stay safe ❤️

    The war started in 2014, 14000 dead before 2022

      8 deaths in 2021, 30 to 50 thousands of deaths in the last 3 months, thousands of destroyed homes, millions of refugees, destroyed economy, repressions against people, who are against the war, Russia turned into dictatorship with own Zwastika, hate and war propaganda everywhere. Was this worth it?

      @@necro_ware The Ukrainian people of Donetsk and Lugansk are humans, they lost 14000 from 2014 until 2022 because of Kiev's shelling. This is common knowledge. The Swastika is part of Azov.

      @@YouTooBig2 Once again, what happens now improves the situation in any way? Do you really think, that people of Donetsk now feel better, where thousands of other people die again? Was it worth it? And it's still not the end.... And please, would you make me a favor and stop quoting Russian TV here? Just open your own mind and ask your heart, how killing people should bring back another killed people? It is a simple question and you don't even need to take any political party to answer it. War is never a solution, it is always a dead end with a lot of hatred. This was an absolute suicide which I don't think RF will survive to be honest. Like Afghanistan was a dead end for the USSR, Ukraine seems to be a dead end for RF. And believe me, I'm not happy about that, not for a second. My heart is bleeding for Russia almost as much as for Ukraine.

      @@YouTooBig2 You are lying. It was proven that these kills are because of local proxy pro-russian separatists supported by RF. And there is report of UN that practically 7000 of them are military. The other half is approximately 50% pro-ukrainian civilians and the other half pro-russian civilians. Guilty for all deaths in this war is the man who fired up the war. And he is in Kremlin, usually sitting on a 30 meter table on meetings!

      Sorry, but that was quite selfish. I didn't say a word about politics in this video, but explained my current situation. Politics ends where the war starts. I hope you'll never have to learn how hard it is to calm down and make a video when your friends and family are on the run or get killed, when you realize, that some of them you will never see again, when countries which you loved get destroyed. I'm glad, that you have no idea how it is.
