Absolutely agree that Senator Rayencourt should've popped up earlier. David Harewood is a phenomenal actor and I really hope he gets more to do in potential future seasons. For those of you who are gamers I highly suggest checking out Alan Wake 2 as his performance in that game is incredibly fun and chilling when he needs to be.
@@Solo13508 he added an element that I thought the show was missing. I wanted to see more of the politics in the republic at this time. Like what would an external review consist of etc
Not only earlier, he should have had multiple appearances throughout the show putting pressure on the jedis to really make us feel something big was as stake for the jedi
I completely agree about the format. The 8 episodes of 30 minutes is not enough to let things rest, characters barely talk to each other and the plot just kicks them to the next story beat. The development is shallow and rushed and situations are forced and not convincing. Ahsoka suffered from that, Mandalorian S03 and now The Acolyte.
I actually preferred Ashoka more than the acolyte like I always had a smile on my face watching Ashoka but I also think it helps that I care about these characters from rebels, like I have a preestablished connection to them but I do agree with the time thing. I wish episodes were longer
I do think pacing was Acolyte's biggest flaw. A lot of stuff moved way too quickly. Longer episodes and giving it a couple more episodes i feel would have benefitted the series more then not
This is a really big problem with recent streaming shows. Hazbin Hotel is a great example of a show that had good (ish) potential, but had to have everything be super rushed due to the fact that it had to be an 8 minute long season (and apparently the studio also weren't sure if a second season was coming, so they had to make sure that *a* story was finished by the end of the 8 episodes).
I just think the show completely failed in its biggest job, making the twins compelling and making us care about them. As sisters we never see their bond, they share 1 episode where they are actually sisters, it’s insane to me why so little screen time was dedicated to showing us them as sisters. As individuals it’s even worse, OSHA basically is an empty vessel with no character traits, motivations or agency, she is literally dragged along through the entire season, never once making a decision for herself, she is first arrested, then she is taken to the temple, then she is forced to go look for Mae and then she is knocked unconscious and kidnapped by Qimir. Mae at least starts out wanting to kill the Jedi but she quickly abandons that motivation and from then on it’s unclear why she is doing what she’s doing and what she wants. She betrays Qimir to be with her sister, she wants to turn herself into the Jedi, she then instead fights against the Jedi and then she abandons her sisters unconscious body on a planet with a Sith walking around… her motivations are back and forth and she changes her mind constantly. Too many plot contrivances happen to get the characters where the script needs them…. It’s just so frustrating
The world building was absolutely atrocious. There are certain elements newcomers won't understand, the best example is Plagueis. The senate's influence over the Order was also quite a drastic jump from phase 1 of THR, where the Jedi had autonomy. Sol was the only reason I kept watching the show, and my favorite thing about it. It was very frustrating seeing how the plot kept trying really hard to picture the only likeable character as a bad guy, but I still agree he did the right thing; if the writers wanted to picture him murdering the cult leader as something evil, they shouldn't have shown her trying to disintegrate a child with dark magic. But I guess this was unavoidable if the endgame was to have Osha fall to the darkside. It just wasn't a satisfying or believable journey for me as a viewer.
I just finished The Acolyte, knowing that it was cancelled and that many people didn't like it (said mildly). It's also a 7/10 for me. I was mostly entertained and I fell in love with Manny Jacinto's portrail of The Stranger and I really hope to see him again in this role in a future project.
Going back to what you said about episode lengths on Disney+, I totally agree. It can feel quite jarring and random going from a 50 minute episode to 30 minutes on the next one. They need to pick a length and stick with it.
I'm sadly not very satisfied with this show. Once again, this format of short episodes doesn't help. At the same time we have shows like House of the Dragon, or even The Boys, delivering an hour every week, letting the story breathe, spending time with moments and characters. Star Wars can benefit from that. It always ends when we feel like we're getting somewhere. The greatest IP in the industry deserves to be treated as such, and elevate the story. Mostly, I just don't think it was a very well told story. Shame, because this was maybe my most anticipated show, based on what they pitched us years ago. I feel that has changed substantially since then. But the fighting is by far the best I've seen in years. It's absolutely amazing!
Well said, the potential was there. What they said the show would be, it wasn’t. I can get past that if I could get invested in some of the characters. I did think Qimir, Mother Aniseya were characters portrayed well. There were other characters I might have appreciated more (Jecki, Indara, Kelnacca, Yord and Senator Rayencourt) if we got to see more of them onscreen ….. but I didn’t like Mae/Osha (young or older) , Venestra or Sol’s actors choices at all. I like the actor who played Sol when he was in Squid Game, but his thick accent was big distraction for me. Mae/Osha’s quick flip flopping of actions didn’t feel legit or earned. I’m disappointed ….. I really wanted to like this show. 😕
Probably the worst Star Wars since The Last Jedi. Possibly even worse. Very little of it made sense. I have a hard time understanding the rave reviews from major RUclipsrs on this one.
This show didn't work for me for many reasons but the main reason is they advertised this as Sith focused. It really didn't have much Sith content at all. Mae and Osha weren't interesting characters imo either. Yoda and Plagueis felt very shoehorned in. But it was cool to see them. If I'm not interested in your characters or their motivations how can I be invested in what's happening?
I agree, more a 6/10. Enjoyed it but I don't think the mystery was as deep as they claimed, or maybe they just telegraphed everything too much for things to feel like a twist. The themes were really really cool but they didn't do enough depth to make it really pay off.
@@trainfan998 RUclips can turn into an echo chamber where people use legitimate criticisms to launder regressive culture warrior agendas. The channels I watch generally find it interesting but all think it has some problems. Still fun, but also kind of disappointing in some ways.
The acting was pretty non-charismatic/wooden with the exception of Qimir, Sol, and the Witches (although that “Power of 1, 2, many, etc.” thing was corny af, but whatever SW is goofy sometimes), but yea - I really disliked the acting outside of those characters, especially Amandla’s/Vernestra’s work, and all the weird unnamed Jedi. The episodes also seemed really disconnected (especially on a rewatch), and so many of the character decisions made no sense (ie. Basil being the obvious one, but there were many), also don’t understand why they had to stomp all over the lore so much. I think it’s very telling Leslye Headland had to do so much explaining in between episodes - if you have to do the explaining your show should be doing… that’s a problem. Ultimately…. I just don’t think it was well directed/acted - the concept was great, just should have gone more of an Andor route in terms of its maturity, writing, and acting quality. This was a cute concept, but a hard miss and should be struck from the canon imo. 💯
I pretty much love all things Star Wars and have been surprised by the hate thrown at shows like Boba Fett, Mando S3 and Ashoka. But this one was a head scratcher and the first one I didn’t fully enjoy. The writing was poor and the Character development was almost nonexistent.
What I don't understand about this show is how it was billed as a "mystery thriller" but there was very little real mystery and certainly no "big reveals". Everything just ... happened... as expected.
I feel like this video is going to be a pivotal one for your RUclips channel one way or another. On one hand, taking a more logical and less emotional take of the series is refreshing. Plus, there are lots of Vocal Acolyte fan communities might leave their bubble and check this out. Good luck, and if you were behind that marketing stunt.. controversially targeting your competition.. knock it off. That’s not the way.
The show didn’t work for me overall. I actually really disliked it. But! I’m glad others enjoyed it. Just cuz I disliked it doesn’t mean I gotta be toxic 😂🤷🏼♂️ Funny enough despite my dislike, I’d be down for a second season to see what happens as long as some of the writing improves
THIS. Most reasonable star wars fan here: >Didn’t enjoy something. >Doesn’t make it their mission to try and put others down for liking it. You my friend are the example they need to learn from.
Didn't hate this series, but not my favourite. To have to watch each episode at least twice and having the showrunner having to explain things after each episode is a big weakness that shouldn't be needed. Really liked Sol, and how we are seeing the beginnings of the fall of the Jedi. Felt the mystery was pretty much solved too early on and not enough focus on the Sith which is what this show was sold on. Action was great. Can't see it getting a second season due to reaction to the show, which is a shame
We enjoyed the show and would like to see more. By the end of the show, it seemed like the focus should have been "How does a good person turn to the dark side?" We got nothing from Osha & Sol while she was a Jedi. We needed more time with Osha and Qimir. I don't think the prequels gave us enough time with Anakin & Palpatine. Brendok was important as a political challenge for the Jedi and a catalyst for Osha, but it seemed like Sol's and Osha's backstory was the MOST important element of the show that wasn't explored enough.
I think the flashbacks and mystery honestly held this show back. It’s not really structured like a mystery, the audience doesn’t follow a character as they uncover the truth. Instead, the viewer is just shown what happened in flashbacks that are completely disconnected from the main plot and then Osha, who wasn’t even aware that this was a mystery, just overhears Sol saying what actually happened. It’s really unsatisfying as a mystery while also taking away time from the main plot.
I think one thing that would have upped the stakes and made Reincourt more threatening is if he had a meeting with Hugo Damask. Have Damask feed his paranoia about the Jedi and then turn around and have him act supportive to Vernestra and her investigation.
I'm just glad there's ONE Star Wars reviewer out there that isn't biased by hate. It's insanely hard to find a channel that hasn't already decided that each piece of Star Wars media is going to be bad before they even give it a chance. Thanks for being optimistic and enjoying the shows with love and joy for the franchise instead of hate. A true Jedi!
Andor really ruined Star Wars in terms of how every show to come will be undeservedly measured up to Andor by plenty of people in and out of the fanbase.
I absolutely agree. There are both criticisms and praises. He doesn't attack the creators or performers personally for the work. He is so fair. I truly love his show. He is my go to star wars show.
So it's just the one Star Wars reviewer that's right. Not the other thousands all saying the same thing about the acting & writing. They're all wrong? Have you ever thought that maybe it's you and this channel who are wrong?
I just finished watching the Acolyte last night and I love it! The Jedi weren't using their lightsabers much in the first few episodes and to be honest, I was quite fine with that. The reveal of who the Sith lord was was something that I saw coming, though I later grew compelled to him as a character.
I think some people wanted to gatekeep the Legends and Old Republic stories many fans aren't aware of which led to the negative discourse. Some folks legitimately didn't like it, but some people didn't like it and made sure not to miss one episode
@@StarshipYorktown The term "good stories" has become meaningless at this point. People use it every time they don't like something, yet they're never able to elaborate on what a good story means to them. Like, give examples of good stories then. Otherwise this just seems like empty talking points.
@@Lr.Laecro.Lirus3445 Let me put it this way: "The Acolyte" is a poorly written show on all levels. "Star Wars: Andor" is a well written show, and has a good story that resonates with audiences. The main message of "Andor" is how fascism is unnatural and poisons everything it touches. In 12 well-written episodes, it shows the gradual formation of the rebellion against the empire, and why a man like Cassian Andor would be inspired to join. As a series, what is the main message of "The Acolyte"? That good and evil are irrelevant, and all that really matters is who has the power? To me, that makes for a very boring story.
@@StarshipYorktown That people and institutions widely seen as “good” (e.g. the Jedi Order, Sol) are still capable of making grave mistakes and that, while this doesn’t make them “evil,” those mistakes still carry negative consequences? That was the main takeaway for me, anyway. 🤷🏻♀️
Omg, an Actual review! Thank you so much! This is why I watch reviews, to get further understanding of a series or things I could've missed or didn't understand. There are too many people reviewing online giving their take on why they didn't like the series and it always felt like it was coming from a personal place. You're professional and your critique had so much depth, again thank you for giving an actual review 💖
I do appreciate your opinion, however I just don’t want to see another season I don’t feel it was written well and some of the actors ( not roles) were very bland and unappealing .
I had a problem with the main actress, her acting was just mediocre at best, seriously replace her and the series would have been much better And I do like the Acolyte otherwise
A very good summary and much that I agree with you on. Sol was my favourite character from the series Lee Jung-Jae putting on an acting masterclass , was brilliant. I would love a season 2, mostly to further explore the Sith and the political intrigue of the times.
I disliked the third trilogy, didn't bother finishing Kenobi or the Mandelorian, but I was able to finish this show and quite enjoy it despite its flaws. The negative reaction surrounding this show is far too over the top and blown out of proportion. People need to chill.
If 1 Jedi cannot speak for all of the Jedi in their defense- then how can the actions of a single Jedi condemn the entire Jedi sect through his actions alone when anyone else in that position could have interacted with the witches differently?
I think those are totally unrelated things. One jedi explaining to the senate delegation what happened is simply a matter of practicality. Most jedi don't even know what happened on Brendok, and most that did are dead. There wouldn't be some kind of insight gained by adding 10 random knights to the proceedings. On the other hand, one jedi inadvertently causing the deaths of dozens of people is matter for concern because it could happen again. Jedi are all over the galaxy involved with highly complex and contentious issues, often specifically to solve conflicts. If a group of jedi basically created one themselves, it puts the institution into question.
As always, thank you for a thoughtful and eloquent video. It's refreshing to see someone who can articulate and not just give a braindead and ignorant rant.
I love how positive and level headed your channel is. I agree with your take 100%, thanks for not contributing to the overwhelming negativity on this platform these days!
They seem like half characters because there is very little actual development beyond their weak motivations that are solely based on the flashbacks that take place 16 years in the past. Everything they do stems from that and their decisions towards the end start to fall apart as they flip flop constantly with seemingly no reason.
@jacos133 the more I actually think about the show, the more incomplete it feels, and if I think about it not as a "star wars show" I like it more. But as a "star was show" I don't like it at all.
Yeah Basil was confusing. I agree that a more episodic story structure would have been better. I agree that they should have let us get to know the core Jedi on the hit list and the Senator more. Thanks for giving a balanced and not click baiting hater review. I enjoyed the show and thought it was so refreshing. I didn't pay attention to the promotional interviews so I was watching the show on its own merits. Ooooh the fights! I haven't geeked out this much about fights since the original Netflix Daredevil. Great review. I wanted a second season also. I'll have to check out your other videos! Subscribed.
I don't understand what Mother Aniseya was trying to do when she turned to a black mist. I'm guessing Sol attacked Mother because he felt Osha was in danger, trying to save her. I don't like the direction the story went as Osha didn't understand that he was trying to protect Mae and had killed Mother in what to me seemed to be out of confusion and fear on Sol's part. Mae could have explained the circumstances but she simply told Osha that Sol killed their mother. Sol also admitted without explanation, which caused Osha to kill him in rage and anger.
I don't like Osha for who she's become. Osha knows the kind of person Sol is. That he is compassionate and caring. She should have shown insight and discern there may have been extenuating circumstances that Sol had no choice but to kill Aniseya (At least that's what Sol thought at that time). Instead, Osha flew into rage and showed no forgiveness although there was basis to do so.
I did feel like there were so many opportunities for Sol or Mae to clear the air, but this also a story of a tragedy, which is the trademark of Star Wars .
Am I the only one that found myself siding with Sol, more or less? Most of his actions were totally justifiable in my opinion, aside from lying to Osha. I’m not so sure we’re meant to totally sympathize with the witches, who begin every encounter with hostility, are always cagey about the girls and give the appearance of harmful intention towards them (even the girls talk about sacrificing themselves). Were that a real life scenario, it would be the duty of any outsider to try to take the girls away from what has all the signs of child abuse. I think the intention of the show was to portray the tragedy of Sol, that he goes through all these efforts to save Osha from darkness, but that ultimately, he didn’t have the “courage to tell the truth,” and that led to the very thing he tried to prevent.
@@jj3665 You may be right, and if so that's a critique of the show. Care to enlighten me? Edit: didn't think so, lol. Don't dump on someone else's opinion if you're not willing to contribute to the conversation. I'm fully aware that the show wants us to blame the Jedi for meddling, and in my opinion it does a pretty poor job persuading the viewer of this.
@@НеАнтон-ы2эThat guide also said he had a purple lightsaber. Lucas never beheld himself to guides or literally anything outside of his movies lol. Another example: Eeth Koth was said to have died in AotC according to an “official” guide at the time, but Lucas brought him back in the Clone Wars. Ki Adi’s birth date was never mentioned in any official material that remained unchanged at the time, and definitely hasn’t been mentioned in any canon sources post-Disney wiping the slate clean in 2014. Ergo, he can be as old as the writers wish lol.
What do you mean, even the story sucked imo. Like SW Explained said: "Writing had some issues" Definitely sucked in writing. Execution was horribly done with such great potential.
Look at his eyes when he says he thought the story was great. Very very obvious tell of a lie 4:30 why deny something even you don’t agree with? Why is it so hard to tell the truth?
The mystery and Carrie Anne Moss (one of my favs) kept me interested enough to finish the series. But overall, it was a weak series, not crap, but weak. The motivation of Sol felt disengious, or maybe the actor couldn't pull it off. Nor was there indications the Witches were placing the twins in danger. Mostly I hated how the Jedi's are now made to be GOT political. A simple as Lucas' black & white perspective of the Jedi, it added to the mystery of the force, etc.
Great review. I really liked the show overall, probably an 8/10 for me. My main issue is the pacing with how we were taken out of the main story with the flashback episodes. Also agree longer runtimes would have been welcome
The show is perfect but I wouldn’t call it the worst Star Wars show since it has its moments mainly Sol and Qimir, EU stuff, good settings, and the fights. I think my issues are the episode structure, some writing hiccups on the characters, and some writers that aren’t the same page. Well I’m gonna take a month break on Star Wars after all of the rage baiting mainly StarWarsTheory who is getting worst at that point, oh well I guess watching Pixar movies will make me feel happy.
I mean it wasn’t like he was a stranger to being in Cortosis-filled caves in Legends lol. The caves of Bal’demnic were a very important location in his novel And he’s also a Sith Lord, he’s gotta spend some of his time hiding and (presumably) investigating his Sith underlings from the shadows lol. Hego Damask was his public persona that I hope we will see in the future
I really tried to watch it and I have seen everything SW. But I could not get through more than 2 episodes. The writing and motivation of the characters was not exiting to watch. 3/10

There's the bridge scene where sol could just carry the little girls but instead he's trying to carry the bridge and he lets a child fall to what he believes is her death.. There's OSHA hanging out with and joining the guy who just yesterday tried to kill her and her sister, killed her friends, and took her in her sleep. But then she learns sol killed her mom 16 years ago and instantly goes full darkside and kills him.. then Mae tells her she's sorry she started the fire which as far as osha knows is how the rest of the witches died... But she's fine with that.. Only kills sol, which btw he (for reasons) didn't try telling OSHA her mom turned to a demon and Mae started dissolving. He just says he did the right thing u guys are 1 person as if that somehow matters.. The bazil scene where he sabotaged sol for no reason, he could only see sols back so don't say he was stopping sol from killing Mae cause he couldn't even see anything.. and why would sol suddenly be going to kill her even? I’m an OT fan, having seen Star Wars on release age 6. I like the sequels more than the prequels. I love most of Mando and Andor. I didn’t really know what to make of The Acolyte; some of it was great, some was confusing and a bit dull. What I liked most was a story I felt I could get invested in and some of the scenes and characters felt like ‘my’ Star Wars. It did seem flawed in some way but I still cared more about it than Ashoka, which currently ranks as my least favourite Disney Star Wars.
The whole story is kind of underwhelming. And that's what is often lacking in those series (not always). But as a whole it was an enjoyable season. It's not epic, but it's fun, and in the end, That's all sw is all about imo.
Huh, I've had that problem with every other SW series so far, but I thought Acolyte finally got the story and scope right. Tight, personal closed loop with just enough political intrigue sprinkled throughout.
I would be interested in a second season if Disney/Lucasfilm goes with a different creative team. This show focused entirely on serving its showrunner instead of the audience. That’s just one of the many appropriate reasons why people are rejecting it.
I would give the season a 6 out of 10 personally. Great ideas but not very good execution in my opinion. Completely agree about the episode length & amount of episodes problem. I did think the action was some of the best of The Disney Era & maybe even better than some of the older films. Great video as always! Keep it up.
I think it suffers from much of the same things as both old Star Wars & the new Obi-Wan show. Some scenes are goofy and feel out of place. The dialogue is at times good, then sometimes wonky. I'm at a 6/10 right now on a single watch. I really want more of it, hoping it gets a second season.
Thank you for not just piling on the hate bandwagon. I’ve seen so many negative comments and in them will be “no way I’ll be watching this”. Like, you formed an opinion without even watching? I started the show when four episodes were available, so all the hate videos were already out there. I braced myself. Ok, it’s a bit off somehow, the writing was very… Disney, the actors seemed on loan from The CW or those old High School Musical shows, but to me Sol was the standout and carried the show. And a few episodes in we of course saw why the other actors didn’t necessarily need to be that great - they had signed a temporary work contract! Episode seven was indeed the most confusing. I went a few weeks been six and seven and I thought, have I messed up and gone back? What is happening? Why are we here yet again? I think for the replay type of storytelling, the repeated scene needs to be compelling (and maybe not build a structure out of stone if you need it to go on fire in the story?). Highly flawed, seemed rushed, cringey scenes yes are in here, but overall not bad. I too was so happy to get something very different not just Stormtroopers and baby Yoda (just actual Yoda this time). I think 7 out of 10 is a bit generous but it was still better than Book of Boba Fett.
Great video and thank you. I agree with all of your points and especially the need for a S2. I loved the Acolyte. For a first season this was incredible. Too much negativity out there but I really enjoyed the bold choices. The twins, mother, the stranger. Jedis full Of hubris, their massacre and Sol. I shed a tear for him on both first and second viewings. Then finally a pay off. The Mun. Death Plagues the Wise. So many questions. I turn 50 this year and have watched, read and collected it all. This is a worthy entry into the great pantheon that is STAR WARS 🎉😊
I felt that this was a perfect middle-level series for me: half of the episodes (mainly those focused on the mystery) and the pacing/episode length didn’t work for me, but the other half with the flashbacks and Qimir in action were really great. The mix of martial arts with fast lightsaber combat was so great to see, and it’s something I wanna see more often in future shows. I did actually like the Witches of Brendok as a look at other Force users in the galaxy (I’m also a bit biased to them after playing Hades 2). And that finale was really solid as well! I definitely agree that we’ve been getting WAY TOO MANY “Reign of the Empire” stories lately. I want to see some more stories or shows that explore stuff in other eras (cough cough the sequels). And yes, I think that while the finale was a great cap, the Acolyte could definitely have a great spot to start a second season from.
It’s true, many of the visuals and fight scenes in the Acolyte were beautiful and inspired, but this might be the straw that broke the camels back as far as what keep me interested in Star Wars. The sequel trilogy killed my inner child who believed the Sky Walkers restored balance to the galaxy only to find Luke to have run off after failure, Han and Leia divorced and their own child leading the apprentice role of the Sith…WTF!!! The Acolyte threw the Jedi completely in the trash noting that they were cruel lyres even before the Skywalkers even arrived… Now I don’t trust them and it seems to be the goal of the writers and Disney. I don’t need this…
I agree with you about the show, and I'm also trying to frame it to myself as: This is the very first live action High Republic thing. It has some setting up to do. It's a great starting point. It stumbled a bit, but it has so much potential for future developments. Just like a New Hope.
7/10 is fair. It was good, not great. "Night" was one of the best things produced by theStar Wars franchise in recent memory. The Stranger is a top-tier villain. I hope there's a 2nd season to see how this plays out.
I was REALLY excited about a High Republic era Star Wars series. Sadly, this was a huge let down. Honestly, I'm a little tired of writers trying to be edgy and that's what I felt like this series was all about. I guess I'm old fashioned but leave the Jedi good and quit trying to make bad guys appear justified. Oddly enough, doing this to be edgy isn't even all that edgy due to it seems to be the 'thing' to do anymore. I didn't think the acting was very good and the set production was a let down. I did think the fight scenes were okay but not great. I don't think it should get a second season and the ratings to budget ratio supports this opinion.
I’m really thankful for you Alex and Molly. I really appreciate you two having large voices in the community and being so positive and open minded. True Star Wars fans.
After listening to your review the 7/10 seems generous. Show was way too inconsistent. Too many poorly ambiguous scenes. Ambiguity can be done really well. This did not. Also, the twins performances were mid af. Dafne and Lee were excellent and they're dead so no season 2 for them which will make that season less quality as a result. Vernestra was not an interesting character in S1 at all. I hope for better in S2, but don't expect anything other than what we got already: Inconsistency.

Imagine this. The Acolyte written by Tony Gilroy. The writing on this show was not good. I say the "savior" of Star Wars is not Filoni, it should be Gilroy. Rogue One and Andor have been the best SW projects in recent memory.
I'm just really sick and tired of all the general hate and bad faith criticisms. I really wish a majority of the fandom would at least be consistent. You can like or dislike what you want but it's really frustrating when people just blatantly parrot other people's opinions and go on about bad acting and writing, etc. while also propping up the prequels just to put down the Acolyte or anything new for that matter. They say we were too harsh to the prequels, which I believe is true to an extent, but then dish out the same negative treatment to anything new and wonder why people call them out for being toxic.
After hearing yor thoughts which I mostly agree with, 7/10 seems rather generous. A lot of the things you criticize are very fundamental for a show to work at all and albeit a lot of ideas and concepts are good, which are most of your positives, the execution lacks overall, and this is where the series breaks for me, and even two good episodes cannot make the difference, sinse a lot is not earned, especially many character beats and developements. So "good idea, but not well done" would be a 4-5/10 for me.
8/10 is probably where i'd put it, simply bc i enjoyed it so much even despite its assorted flaws. Especially as those flaws are very prone to being repaired by a second season. I love that its a relatively simple story with a Lot to say and coherent rich themes and lovable characters, even if i wish we'd gotten to see more of them. but with a s2 hopefully we will
5:13 agreed. This was a big swing in a new direction. It was a gamble and it ended up falling short a bit. I think if they would have aired out the story a bit more we could have gotten to know Bazil and the other characters’ motivations better, and then understood the characters better and their motivations. Like I would have liked a third flashback, perhaps from the perspective of Mother Aniseya’s perspective, where we could know what that black mist actually was, maybe find out more about how far the coven was willing to go to preserve their cult, and what exactly The Ascension was. This show should have had twice the episodes and the episodes should have been twice as long.
Overall I enjoyed the series and I like your comparison to the prequels. Great premise but a bit iffy on the execution. I think I'll like it more in a rewatch; I just did this with Ahsoka that I think I liked more to start with but watching it all more closely together was more engaging.
7 out of 10 is fair. Some of the writing and acting was really awkward to me in a lot of these episodes, with some episodes that stood out really well. Overall, the biggest issue I have with these series, is that they force the viewer to abandon continuity with the films and it's not always easy to do; because most of us know the background material of that universe pretty well. But I agree with you...they can't just center stories around the same old Skywalker, Kenobi and original characters storylines. The show is just "okay" to me. Im not particularly invested in most of these characters. If they didn't do a second season, I wouldn't miss it very much.

Mando S03...? What because Mando S01 wasnt painfully short and rinse and repeat on a different backwater world week-to-week?
I had this issue more with Obi-Wan than Ahsoka and Mando. It makes an environment of really great highs & low lows.
The 8 season short episode format is definitely hurting SW and other shows

@@taddad2641 What was bad in the writing according to you? I found it an interesting story and I did understand most or all of it.
I do think pacing was Acolyte's biggest flaw. A lot of stuff moved way too quickly. Longer episodes and giving it a couple more episodes i feel would have benefitted the series more then not
I don't know, two of the episodes were 'flash back' episodes. There wasn't enough content to fill the minutes they had.
Nah, I'd say it's the writing.
Still better than any season of quantum leap.
@@sorejacknah you just dumb

I would love to see you, Generation Tech and Star Wars Meg have a round table discussion about Star Wars overall!

The mystery was how Sol was a scapegoat for the first potential Sith spotting in 100 years. It was there but swept under the rug
can you really compare it to episode 1 when there's no final epic 2v1 battle on a John Williams sound track and no pod racing?

I love these videos. As a non reader, there are so many things that I miss, and these videos explain everything that I don't know about
yeah, and i love this channel because it looks like the owner doesn't want any bias in his videos
I agree. Flashing back so many times from so many POVs really slowed the momentum.
I think one thing that would have upped the stakes and made Reincourt more threatening is if he had a meeting with Hugo Damask. Have Damask feed his paranoia about the Jedi and then turn around and have him act supportive to Vernestra and her investigation.
Now, THIS was the video I was waiting for! I appreciate the honest criticism.

@@Lr.Laecro.Lirus3445 Andor

7:03 I liked that he even said to Mae "You really didn't know it was me?" Just made it that much funnier
If 1 Jedi cannot speak for all of the Jedi in their defense- then how can the actions of a single Jedi condemn the entire Jedi sect through his actions alone when anyone else in that position could have interacted with the witches differently?
Where does your "if" part of the statement come from?

Too me Osha and Mae, seemed like half characters and it clicked during episode 8 that made sense when we got told they were the same person.
I feel like this show would have been better if it focused on Qimir.
It's cancelled
Very true

I could go on and on everything in this show was done in the laziest way.
@@logangrzesiek8749Sean Chandler and Supercuts Delight give easily the best criticisms of the show, and I wish people would look at their critiques instead of rage baiters like Nerdrotic.
@@ragingshibe Excellent point. Here's the thing on this show at least, if you stay away from culture war nonsense you can pretty much pick the entire debacle apart without much effort.
If Nerdrotic and his ilk had half a brain they would be able to see that.
I think the writing would have been better if we had different writers. Sol and Jecki and Qimir would have made a better story than the twins
Jedis full
Of hubris, their massacre and Sol.
I don’t need this…
I didnt like it at all. I think it was laughably bad and had no one cared about. Especially the twins.
A 7 out of 10? Did Disney pay you to say that?
I agree with you about the show, and I'm also trying to frame it to myself as: This is the very first live action High Republic thing. It has some setting up to do. It's a great starting point. It stumbled a bit, but it has so much potential for future developments. Just like a New Hope.
7/10 is fair. It was good, not great. "Night" was one of the best things produced by theStar Wars franchise in recent memory. The Stranger is a top-tier villain. I hope there's a 2nd season to see how this plays out.
@@M_B_J tell that to the fanbase.
Agree completely. Both your and Alex’s assessment line up with mine. I was entertained every week and want to see more from this era
It’s terrible nothing Star Wars cmon man grow a spine
The fact that people genuinely enjoy this show is proof we are in a simulation.
yeah in a real world everyone would agree with you on everything all the time.
I’m really thankful for you Alex and Molly. I really appreciate you two having large voices in the community and being so positive and open minded. True Star Wars fans.
Would love to see a second, longer season!
Brilliant review. I'm in agreement for most of your points.
Glad somebody liked it lol
You nailed it Alex. Star Wars needs to continue to grow and explore the wider story
7 out of 10?? Wow! There is not enough alcohol in the World to give it 3 out of 10...
Art is subjective. Grow up
@@saadyahschick7560 yes art is subjective but you can review the quality of the script etc. You can point out the lack of logic, stupidity etc. You are telling me to grow up but if that means to you to stop using my brain - NO thank you. Maybe you should start using your brain and judge things for what they are. It may hurt if you are not used to it. Critical thinking is a huge asset instead of blind love for crap
@@wbfwbl8434 Yes you can review the quality of a script, but that review isn't objective fact and someone else can make their own review and analysis, come to the complete opposite conclusion about it's quality, and said review is equally valid. So art being subjective means that no opinion on the quality of the show is factually wrong even if you personally disagree with it.
@@wbfwbl8434There are prequels that are objectively terrible. They even have a bunch of golden raspberries. But someone loves them and protects them from a hate.
I think you hit the nail on the head with this, I don't really have much else to add. Many issues, many of which seem to be from larger systemic problems, but it's a show I'm still rooting for and want more of.
Seems like making excuses for awful writing. We won’t get better content ever either this complacent with what we got mindset.
Imagine this. The Acolyte written by Tony Gilroy. The writing on this show was not good. I say the "savior" of Star Wars is not Filoni, it should be Gilroy. Rogue One and Andor have been the best SW projects in recent memory.
Imagine this, any competent writer was hired to write the acolyte.
Some? It was utter trash. One of the worst written shows in history.
