9:16 To answer your question: Yes, there is a subharmonic note there. An F1 to be specific (the same low note he throws in here and there throughout the whole song. They just made it super subtle. But it‘s definitely there.

12:01 He basically went from a chest-fry note to a chest note. And then they added some massive reverb to make the bass sound much grander. The note where Layne and Geoff was on cam is indeed a subharmonic as well!! I love this arrangement so much.

At 12:01 Geoff went down to a chest-fry, but the distorted sounds afterwards are all done by lane….he is using a technique called throat bass which he has already used in multiple of their covers, like the Moana medley or „we don’t talk about Bruno“….

I think what you’re hearing at the part you were confused on, where it sounds like Geoff is almost chewing the bass notes, is a mix of three things: Geoff’s lead notes that drop into bass range, the actual bass line by Geoff and three bass drum kicks from Layne. They all hit at the same point and it sounds just a little muddled so it’s hard to pick out, but that’s what I hear.
I loved this one....all of the runs were awesome...Ashley's run up to the mountain peak and back down was incredible....That high note Geoff hit was near my head voice, and I am a tenor....I am in awe everytime I hear him.
Are you familiar with “Fiddler On The Roof,” the classic musical the original version of this song, “If I Were A Rich Man,” is from? It’s excellent, funny and tragic. And I like that they nod to Gwen Stefani’s semi-cover of it.
It would have been funny if Geoff on his last riff, got to end, looked at the camera and said "What!" mimicking Ashley.
Don't make Geoff stay in one lane! He's in ALLLLLLLL the lanes...and that's where he belongs! This is a great reaction to a great cover of a great song by a great group. F*ck the lanes LOL
Being a bass singer with a similar range to Geoff, I am still in awe with his ability to use them all the way he does. I sung along and couldn't do it the way he does. Geoff is amazing at what he does. Yeah, I know, it's a multitrack recording, but have heard him do the same live! A lot of bass singers can cover the range Geoff does, just not in the same way!
Saying Geoff should stay "in his lane" is even funnier when Layne's the one who's made him leave it. 😉

At the point you were talking about missing one of Geoff's subs, while Layne was beatboxing, I think Geoff did the whistle that can be heard there
