As we enter the new decade we enter an uncertain time in railroading.. Class 1s hellbent on cutting costs, operating ratios and pleasing Wall Street are forgetting the fundamental principles that make any business sustainable.. While Shortlines and Regionals are 'crushing it,' the big Class 1s are cursing it and it's anyone's guess how the story will evolve.. Or end.

Trains 21 is a documentary of railroading in the 21st century and a look at the fascinating world of transportation. On this channel we deal with all aspects of trains with a strong focus on the Northeast USA.
This goal is for you to learn a lot in a short amount of time.. A major infusion of knowledge in just a few minutes.. And if those few minutes distilled some of the best railroad information in the industry, we feel that we've done our job..
The trick is clarity.. Clear, concise and on point.. New videos are uploaded frequently and if you like what you see, comment, like and subscribe (in that order!).

Did anybody notice that the third engine on 37T is #9610 and the third engine that pushed 37T up the hill was #9510!!
Even though the RRs are going under we are still going to have them and need them
Wow! You've been busy. Thanks for all your time and effort in making these videos. I really enjoy them.
Thanks for your appreciation and for watching Joseph, it much appreciated.
AC, I really enjoy history that you provide, I find that very interesting. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Mark.. I appreciate you watching.
Awesome video AC! enjoying these documentaries
Thanks Man.. I've been watching your videos too.
Lots of great info. I see that guy in the pickup had to perform because he had a audience with a camera. Yes they are out there. That's how You Tube took off. Excellent video AC.
You are so right.. Thanks for watching Hans.
Very interesting historic research. Thank you. Appreciate your work.
No problem, thanks for watching.
Great video again AC. I complain when I don’t get stopped by a train at a crossing.
Same
Great job Narrating this video, AC. 👍
Thanks Ken.
It's sad to see high hoods becoming more and more scarce definitely my favorite style of motive power
You do a great job.
Thanks Mark.
Well done video! I always enjoy watching your content.
Thanks Noah, I'm watching you down in the delta too!
Awesome video ac. Great narrative too👍👍
Thanks Tommy
16:43, that’s cool how the street lights blink too.
👍👌🚂 Thanks AC as always spot on.
Thanks DJ for watching!
Well... that was an entertaining ending! Great start to the series! Can't wait...
Thanks RC.
Nice stuff!
Thanks Man!
Very informative video. Sounds like a great place to be a railfan. Liked and subscribed. - Greg in TN
I'm in Glenshaw PA, right near what was the original B&O RR, I believe. We used to camp out in the woods above the tracks when we were teenagers. This is really great content. Thanks!
Thanks for watching Rick.
i agree 100% on that i've seeing a lot of changing my self. awesome video
Yeah, CSX has seen even more change than NS.. For now.. Thanks for watching Phil.
lol that deusch at the end.
Yeah right.
Great stuff. Every time I head trackside, I see something new. New opperating practices, old practices brought back, new power, you name it. It's hard to keep up with. How greatly I am to have a camera to film what we have today. On a side note, that pickup driver at the end seems like he has been playing Forza on Xbox too much. LOL
I understand what you mean!
Nice video! Tamaqua has a special place in my heart. There is a camp nearby where I used to go every summer. I have even caught a few trains on camera in this town.
Awesome.
Another very informative video AC thank you.
Thanks Rusty!
At 20:00 I would have laughed so hard if there was a cop behind him.
Me too!
This channel is an information super highway, love it. Learning something new each time.
EDIT: laughed at that RAM pickup drifting through the street. Hit the Like button, as always.
Thanks Aldean.. Much appreciated.
Keep up the videos along with the very informative narrations.
Thanks, Tarmac.. I'll certainly do my best.
Excellent video my friend !!! 😉👍
Thanks Walter!
Thank you.
You're welcome.
The pickup screams "Welcome to Tamaqua" lol oh my
You would know! haha
I think that guy in the pick up was in a hurry to get to happy hour at one of the local gin mills LOL
Encyclopedic knowledge.
Thanks Dana.
Excellent capture
Thanks Man.
Class 1 PSR implementation is going to get Pre-1980 Staggers Act regulations reintroduced. I'd rather see less government intervention in the private sector, but that's what happens when short term Wall Street investors are prioritized over serving the customers.
Agreed.
Glad someone remembers the DT&I. My wife's grandfather was a telegraph operator for them in Ohio.
That's awesome!
YES I love Reading Northern Hoppers livery
Me too.
I saw that train with the Herzog rock cars at Binghamton's BD interlocking. I hear the 24/7 switching and train traffic, and man is it for more intense then of only a few years ago. I live one block north from the interlocking in the home of my grandfather who hired out on the Erie, and my father on the DL&W. Both retired as engineers. I myself had a college grant from the B of LE.
Nice.. I know an Erie man but haven't seen him in a long time.
ANY,,,,,RR video with a DT&I reference, gets 2 BIG thumbs up from me.
DTI has been gone over 35 years now, but I will never forget.
Thanks Jeffrey, I'm glad you liked it.
thankyou AC another great trains how do you do it you are better then any body else
Thanks Darrell.. I appreciate your words.
Video idea: follow a particular train from Binghamton to Albany NY. I'm sure you know about Belden Hill tunnel; a train coming out of that would make for great video.
I'll certainly consider it, Rich.. Yes, I am familiar with it.
Your shooting footage around where i live, heck i could of passed you in traffic
You never know!
Yes, so much is changing. Both in railfanning and operation. As far as equipment, it won't be long before box cars join the caboose in history and in the care of the welders torch
Yeah, but let's hope not.
@@Trains21 They are actually still building lots of new plate F box cars(especially the T boxes) what will be rare is the old plate C box cars.
Your videos are why I am not getting anything accomplished at work. Lol.
I'm glad that you're enjoying them.. Thanks for watching!
Great video AC, say i got a question though? What is going on with the Upper Lehigh line??
You probably know that 36T and 37T are no more and have been folded into the 11Z and 14R.. As for traffic on the Upper Lehigh, the only thing that I know of running is the local out of Allentown to Lehighton and back.
Trains21 at that rate they should just sell that section to RBMN. So then they reduce cost and time of transfer. And it brings the RBMN to allentown.... say why not let them also take over the allentown Reading line. That way muller can loop back too if he wants too
@@mattsmocs3281 I think Andy will the Upper Lehigh Line at some point.. And the Ashmore Secondary to Hazleton but they'd never give up the Allentown/Reading Line.. That's one of their busiest lines on the system.. The connection to NYC/NJ.
Your productions are so good you should be on The History channel!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Tony! You're much too kind!
Rails are going different then normal
Awesome video!!! The Shamokin Valley uses ex RDG trackage between Sunbury and Paxinos. The PRR Shamokin branch is mostly abandoned, with the exception of the few miles between Paxinos and Shamokin. Also Tamaqua was Conrail territory until 1990, not the mid 80s as you mentioned.
ruclips.net/video/_0LufHnLUpc/видео.html Here is one of my favorite videos posted by FM Nut. The first part is of a Conrail empty hopper extra on Thanksgiving of 1989. Tamaqua station at 1:40.
It was my impression that the RDG trackage in Sunbury had been abandoned so thanks for pointing that out.. It was also my impression that RBMN got the RDG cluster around 1985 and it still is.. If I find out that I'm wrong about that then I'll certainly admit to it.. In the meanwhile, thanks for watching and chiming in.. It's much appreciated.
Trains21 RBMN took over the Reading cluster in November of 1990. This video by FM Nut shows the final days of Conrail in the area, Tamaqua station t 1:40 . ruclips.net/video/_0LufHnLUpc/видео.html Anyway you make awsome videos!
More and more the state of Pennsylvania intrigues me. Deep history interesting scenery and just lots of lots to see. May get there one day want to be my guide AC
Sure, just let me know when you're coming.
Tbh I work out here in the industry it will come back the problem is hedge funds got in to the rail industry. Once they get done it will swing back. One rail car is 4 trucks. As the hwys get more crowded trains will be more efficent
The DPRX cars must be headin fo the wnyp for storage
i don't think so.. They move both ways.
The diesel modifications you mention; why and what are the significance of the changes? It has got to cost a lot of money.
What mods are you speaking of?
Trains21 when will we see the video about CSX’s class 1 locomotive roster AC??
Haven't thought about it.. I'll see what I can do.
It’s all psr nuthn else
I would gladly wait for a VERY long train to pass by me. Heck, I would gladly wait for ANY train to pass by me!😂😂😂🚂
I'll bet you would!! haha!
Haha. Still not much going on in New Bedford these days..
@@bethanybarrow4380 Sad.
I can’t wait for further of railroading it is going be fun on the Spokane sub her look so different looking forward down the track in case anyone else knows my Freind double track is funnel bnsf is busy her and Union Pacific
Do you remember that lovely Film ‘The Station Agent’ also at Northumberland, but that was at Northumberland New Jersey wasn’t it? I believe it’s all still there as it was Filmed back in 2003.
Cool, I didn't know that.
Trains21 Yes, you can hire it for Weddings etc., the Railway that owns it will even prepare it for your own particular Timescale.
@@peterjhillier7659 That's really neat! Thanks for sharing.
Trains21 No Problem, have a great Day.
19:55 when that truck did a burnout, shortly before that, a car honked at someone. I’m assuming the van behind him was being impatient, so he did a burn out to get back at them.
Exactly right.. Or they were both RBMN employees who knew each other and was messing around.
Trains21 yeah. Another possibility is that they were messing around because you were there. In my experience, it’s not uncommon for rail workers to say or do funny stuff when someone is there taking pictures or filming.
Gotta be honest, it's been real hard for me to railfan lately. With ~4 daily trains in Clarks Summit, 3 being when I'm sleeping and the other being when I'm in school or work, im not really able to railfan anymore :(
The tracks were there long before you... maybe you should consider moving on...
I know what you mean.. I feel sorry for you young guys.. You missed out on the best days of NEPA railfanning.
What is the heritage of the lead dash 9 w/ the Nathan p3?
That leading locomotive is a Dash 8.
sp?
Spencer Willis NS doesn’t own anything former SP stupid.
20:00 ... Bruh
The WTF burnout was the driver had his right turn signal on and wasn't moving, the person that blew the horn pissed him off.
I think the p/u driver wanted to turn left, but there was no room. I'd make a right at the corner and hang a 180 wheel to the left and juice the motor and fall in behind the last vehicle going where I wanted to go.
AC: That fishtailing Ram Pickup truck with the unmuffled engine. Yes, it was truly a WTF moment. Where was the 'checkered flag' when it was needed; or one of the local constabulary for enforcing a reckless driving ordinance.
That's a good question.
Look at that CF trailer in the weeds use to be a big trucking outfit but i still say trucking is the future.
Red Butler. Railroading is the future.
@@NOVARailandWeatherEnthusiast I hope so really do but they better find more traffic because the cash cow Coal is going gone soon.
Red Butler. How will it be gone soon?
@@NOVARailandWeatherEnthusiast Several coal steam power plants around here has closed CSX and NS says they lost a lot of coal and more will be gone Power River coal out west is in decline also and add poor rail service railroads don't want loose carload anymore.
Red Butler. Wow.
reason for solar panels on cars?
1topfueldrag part of tracking device
Michael McGrew thanks
Would you do a Shutout to me in one of your videos A.C. ?
Will do.
It will come back watch. In nyc they already want more shit on rails due to traffic
I believe it, used to deliver there everyday.
Yep soon they’ll have A.I freight trains traveling at high speeds cross country crashing into one another at high speeds 😂😂😂 no human casualties am I right 🤷♂️😇
Let's hope not!
