It just takes one small change in lifestyle to create a domino effect on the rest of your life. A lot of people aren't willing to make that small change. If it was easy everyone would do it. They go through and waste their life without ever finding out what they're truly capable of. So anyone who's here because they have the mindset to become better, even by 1%, you're a champion.

In the past I was reasonably fit , did heaps of cardio , diet was ok , mostly Mediterranean although I think I had a bit too much sugar. After menopause fat was beginning to sit in places I didn’t want , mainly belly and arms and then I started listening to videos like this and discovered intermittent fasting and what to eat after the fast. Almost a year later the fat is melting off and I’m looking about 15 years younger than my age. I like to break my fast noon or just after. That works well for me

    Great video!
I started IF in Feb 2021 basically to help heal some ulcers in small intestine -- knew IF would be a positive as I would be eating less often plus the autophagy effect is huge! Fast forward to today, 30lbs down (bonus). I'm now at the weight I was in my 20's but the most important aspect of IF is how I FEEL. Energized, mental clarity, overall feel so much better. I have never counted calories with IF (never will). I simply eat whole foods, good protein, healthy fats.
When people stop and truly listen to their bodies, it's a game changer.
Side note: early 50's, post menopause, no hormone therapy, have a flat stomach, no moodiness.

I only eat once a day and have been for almost a year. The changes are incredible. If you feel hungry or get headaches, etc. it's because you're blood pressure drops. All you need to do is put a little Himalayan Salt or Celtic Salt in your water, and in 10 mins, you will feel better. You just think your hungry. If your overweight or have any health issues, check your insulin levels, and I guarantee they are high. For thousands of years, even if you're the best hunter, you would eat once a day. If you have any health issues or are over weight check your insulin and it will be high. Get it down and you can change and revert your health issues. Insulin is a hormone that is produced by the pancreas and is responsible for regulating blood sugar levels in the body. When you eat a meal that contains carbohydrates, your body breaks down the carbohydrates into glucose, which is then absorbed into the bloodstream. In response to this rise in blood sugar levels, the pancreas releases insulin to help transport the glucose into cells where it can be used for energy or stored for later use.
If you consistently have high levels of insulin in your bloodstream, it can lead to a number of health problems, including:
    1. Insulin resistance: Over time, high levels of insulin can lead to insulin resistance, a condition in which the body becomes less sensitive to insulin. This can lead to high blood sugar levels and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
    2. Weight gain: Insulin is also known as the "fat-storage hormone" because it promotes the storage of fat in the body. When insulin levels are high, it can be difficult to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight.
    3. Inflammation: High levels of insulin can also cause inflammation in the body, which is a contributing factor to many chronic diseases.
Therefore, it is important to keep your insulin levels low by maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and managing stress levels. Eating a diet that is low in carbohydrates and high in protein and healthy fats can help keep insulin levels in check. Additionally, incorporating regular exercise into your routine can help improve insulin sensitivity and reduce insulin levels.

You are a gem Cynthia. Thanks to your TED talk on IF I am a whole lot lighter and a whole lot happier. After so so many failed attempts ' Wheat Belly' and many more I thought I could never lose weight. Your talk seemed so right .. so simple .. when you talk about our ancestral cousins and their behaviour around food and fasting .. the light went on and again thanks to you continues to burn brightly. You distilled a very very complex problem down to it's very essence .. " what were our ancestors doing" .. not sleeping after a meal ( I liked that line ) .. And the thing that fascinates me the most - I'm on the 16:8 schedule - is I'm not hungry during the fasting period, I drink lots of water with a dash of Himalayan Rock Salt. I have noticed in the last few days that I'm gone quite a bit past my 16 hours when I 'remember' to eat. You are a gem indeed. Thank you so much.

I have found, over years of trial and error, that fasting all day is best for me. My energy is up because my body isn't digesting. When I eat, I'm almost immediately immobile. My energy level drops to nothing and depending on what I ate...I'll fall asleep. This has been my circadian rhythm since I was a teenager.
I went through the Anorexia/Bulimia phase...I also did the Atkins Diet and got horribly sick with gastritis as I tried to process all the protein and fat.
I ended up with Hepatitis where I had to eat oats 3 times a day because it was the easiest thing to digest and I lost 30 pounds in 30 days.
    I couldn't tolerate the fats/oils after that.
Today...many eons and ages later...I still prefer fasting through the day and eating at around 4-6pm...feasting til I'm full and then be done for the day. A few years ago I lost 100# in about 9 months by eating virtually whatever I wanted...after my day's work was done. I could relax and focus on digestion only. I'd burnt ketones and fat all day; the mind being the biggest user of those elements.
I did try many ways and methods of "dieting"...Keto, Vegan, Vegetarian, Mediterranean, on and on and on. All to no avail. The only so called "diet" that has ever worked for my body and mind both is to not eat...until I can focus on food and it's preparation. I eat a lot of vegetables...but balanced with dairy, meat, complex carbs...occasional pasta or pancakes with butter and syrup. I drink coffee all day...I don't overload on water, I eat beans and rice on occasion, and I eat red meat in moderation. Variety is key, but I prefer a large salad every day before I eat anything else. I've just begun breaking my fast with plain, unsweetened yogurt and cocoa (dark chocolate) with vanilla or cloves or cinnamon...It's high protein with probiotics and the cocoa is a mood booster.
I don't follow a strict regimen, or invasive, restrictive rules and regulations with my diet. The Bible told me that "It's ALL Good for Food"..."Everything in Moderation"..."God gave us the seeds, nuts, and all the greenery...then gave us everything to use as food"....
"Use the herbs of the earth"....and "Be Well Balanced, for the enemy comes to destroy"...
I eat according to cravings as long as those cravings are good, whole food. I also DO have the occasional glass of wine.
I believe we all have to seek our own perfection...based on truth. Commercialism touts their version of whatever the latest trend is in food consumption...so everyone needs to do their own research and explore all options...experiment and pursue what is perfect for you...
    TODAY.

  • @BigPictureYT
    @BigPictureYT 2 года назад +12

Max, do some experiments. Finish your last meal just before you go to bed. Notice how you feel the next morning. Did you sleep well? How well did you digest that meal? Did you wake feeling energized? Then, each day, finish your last meal one hour earlier. Compare your health results. I have found that my body prefers an early dinner. I also feel better when I get up with the dawn after eight hours in bed. Burning the midnight oil is just another modern chronic stressor that none of our ancestors experienced. Interview Matt Walker to understand the science of the circadian rhythm. Start with maximizing your sleep, and THEN maximize your intermittent fasting.

Just a quick response becuse you mentioned something Ive gone thru myself...body dismorphia...
Thats a tough one...Its challenging to keep one's perception Clear and undistorted ,as its all to easy ,like you said, to get down because of something we See in ourselves but may not nessearily be what Others see us like at all... Ive found it to be intimately connected to our Inner state of Being and self acceptance...when all is right in that Inner world, our perception of ourselves will yield nothing but beauty...its when we are out of sync inwardly, and feeling bad, that those feelings are projected outward affecting how we see not only the world but ourselves...as always, Love is the answer.

Ya but fast mimicking is harder than traditional fasting as the food stimulates hunger and ultimately is just a super low cal, low fat diet and the food is very expensive. Having a piece of hard cheese or a spoon of coconut oil during a struggle, works better and is very cheap with a minimal insulin spike, a blip in the grand scheme of things.

I'm very glad they included the cost associated with fasting because there is one. Tweaking fasting improves outcomes and an important tweak to eating less is eating primarily organically. That's the truth of the benefits of improved nutrition. One thing I do is ask my grocer when he gets new produce in. I find shopping the day before reduces the price of meat and some of the pricier vegetable items in my area.
Also, numerous vegetables can be frozen. So, there is cost saving to be found in buying a slightly larger amount of something that's on sale, ( I often blanch broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, and kale),
cut it down to the cooking shape, and then freeze them in separate bags. This saves a ton of money in food loss. I just break off a handful of a particular veggie and add where needed in a recipe.
With IF you are eating less in a 1 or 2-person household, so (in theory) you can afford more organic food. However, I'm new to IF (started in June) and I'm seeing new/increased costs in water purification, purchased electrolyte powder, and I purchased a ketone and glucous meter to help me to better understand how my body is reacting to choices I'm making with what and when I eat.
I'm taking my time and celebrating the wins as I work to become fat adapted.
    Thank for this video!

How do you know if your hormones are out of balance and which ones are out of balance and how do you get them balanced? I’m 52 going through menopause. Been keto for 4years . Former yo-yo dieter for 20 years. Highly stressful sedentary job. Try to walk when I can. Lost 30 pounds at first 4years ago. Been stuck and juggling gaining and losing the same 10 pounds for the last 3 years. Constantly going between 170-160 pounds. I’m short 5’1”. I read Dr Fung book. And other books. Watch a lot of you tube videos on this subject.

This may seem like a stupid question but I haven't seen it addressed anywhere I've looked; if you fast for 24 hrs for one or more days a week, does it impact your health that you can't recoup those calories therefore your nutritional requirements won't be met. I am a 74 year old woman and I am 90 lbs overweight. I fast 20+ hrs/day and can't lose weight on 1,000 cal/day. Help

I say go for it. It’s gotta work with your schedule. I know she referenced eight hours here. I would actually try for a smaller eating window or work your way to one. You could eat from 2-6, for example. If you’re trying to lose weight, an eight hour eating window often doesn’t work, especially if there’s a history of dieting or any metabolic issues.

The doctors and pharmaceutical companies have been and still are bandating patients illnesses. Yes. But are the pharmaceutical company's behind these Band-Aids to make an extra buck? She just stated herself that the food industry and the pharmaceutical industry are the cause for heart disease, at cancers, infertility in men and women. The part that bothers me is they always tell you that their treatments and nutritions are safe for everyone. I believe they are knowingly doing this cost addictions to certain types of foods as well as medications to make an extra buck. In my opinion this is criminal, and ultimately murder. These are crimes against humanity.

For great information on water and hydration lookup Gena Bria. I am reading the Weigh Down Diet (which is not a diet) by Gwen Shamblin and planning on buying Fast, Feast, Repeat soon. I also pre-ordered Fasting Like A Girl by Dr Mindy Pelz.

Intermittent fasting works alone with a diet, people are eating to much sugar and wrong oils, from pastry and snacks, everything with moderation and more greens and complex carbohydrates instead of simples and empty calories, that make people eat all the time

Weight gain as we age is something we all face..Im 62 male who used to be able to eat carbs all day and still kept a muscular frame with ultra low bodyfat...However as I hit my 50's and early 60's, something has changed and metabolism is definitely slowed down.. granted, when I was age 18-into 40"s, I was outputting Huge amounts of energy and burned calories like a gas guzzling V8 engine...Boxing ,martial arts and being a trainer in the boxing gym meant putting in hrs and hrs daily so I can see why I got away with carbs anytime i wished back then and yet today, with workouts at under an hr every other day, no longer at the gym and more idle time on computer , I can see how this metabolic shift happened... Injuries also caused a serious drop in frequency and intensity of workouts: lower back disc and neck disc damages...Ive been vegetarian All my life and this makes it tough to get the protein i need, especially when Dialing Back the quantities of food intake....
meeting protein requirements is a challenge,as it Must be Complete protein to enable muscle building and repair..I dont eat meat, fish, chicken or eggs... I do eat cheese, and some yogurt, thats about it..I hate the yogurt but do it solely for the quality of the protein...
