Johnny, I hope you read this. After having been a fan since 1982, I finally got to see you guys live. I swear it was the best two hours of my life so far! No lying! I hope and pray I’ll get to see you guys play again someday. You’re all the best!

Hard at Play was my gateway album into music, and I still love it to this day. I bought the Hit me Like a Hammer CD single and it had two versions of the song, both of which were different to the album. The sax solo version, then another which just seemed like a minor remix with some extra guitar licks at the end of the track.

Guys, great interview! 👍 Sports, Fore and Hard at Play is a great trilogy of albums 👌
Mutt Lange worked with Clover, which had Huey Lewis and members of the News. 🍀
As for 1991, the album credit in Hard at Play lists thanks to Bryan Adams. 👨‍🎤 Mutt spent much of 1991 with Bryan but still had time to write for Huey and the late Eddie Money, RIP. 😃
The saxophone 🎷 version makes a good alternative version.

@@JeremyWhiteShow As a set I agree but I adore the lesser loved album Small World but that's because I like jazz. From what I think I've heard Chris liked the jazz and Johnny the harmony pop. That is stated as a huge generalisation by the way. I am sure they both love a huge range of musical forms. Two very talent musicians. Jeremy from Australia P.S. Buy Johnny's solo albums. They are brilliant and so uplifting.

Jeremy, you need to interview a guy named Ashley Clark. He has recently been recording with Mutt in Switzerland and must have lots of cool stories to tell us. Hugs from Brazil 👍

Jeremy when will you finally get to meet Mutt and work on a song together? With all of your connections you MUST get a Mutt collaboration for your album. And progress? Cheers - R

Nice one Jeremy. Question: seems like these shorter interviews start mid-way. But there's been a few lately where the full version hasn't come out. Are they coming out or is this it? Thanks.

The full version is always on the podcast feed, you can stream the audio wherever you get podcasts! This one will be up in full in 2 weeks I think… you subscribe on apple or Spotify? “The Mitch Lafon and Jeremy White Show”. Im away and haven’t been doing interviews with Mitch, hence the lack of newer longer stuff!

The hard at play album came out a little bit too late should have been released somewhere in the '80s I think by that time in the 90s the fan base start to shrink kids were into grunge not Huey Lewis and the news

I agree. Small World (which happens to be my favourite) was too diverse and less pop orientated and was never going to appeal to the masses as much. And that proved to be the case. Although Perfect World made number three it was the beginning of a gradual deecline. Small world the single in the U.S. chartes only made 25 and Give me the Keys I think was in the forties. Small World (album) being so different it hould have come after Hard at Play. The latter sold pretty well but probably would have shifted more units if it had followed Fore! A Couple of Days Off was a hit and I can't remember the chart position It Hit Me Like a Hammer reached. One oddity from Hard at Play album was the single 'You Don't Know' as it was only released as a single outside the U.S. market. Very few know (including Huey) that the song World to Me from Small World was also released as a single and again I think only outside the U.S. It got near none promotion but the cover art was cool. My friends didn't care for that song but it is a favourite of mine. I was always out of step. All HLN albums are worthy recordings and all have something to offer.
