Yes, he does. The phrase” You were compromise is a routine thing for him” and it doesn’t mean anything at all.
She is always compromise and he did nothing to protect her even when he knows thar she is not at fault. He takes her for granted. She is the most punished and neglected woman in the palace. I really feel for her.

He was an idiot. She truly loved him but love onesided can only go so far. Loved this drama. She was a great Empress. She didn't want it. It was forced on her. On top of everything she did for him he tried to erase her from history. This was supposedly based on real characters. The real Empress was never erased but lived like am Empress in history and he was forgotten.
He was never in doubt of how much she loved him, As a matter of fact, he used that love to his advantage numerous times from placing her in the cold palace and compromising her on numerous occasions. His version of love is toxic and one-sided it and by one-sided, I mean only in regards to himself.

其實我覺得如懿在那個年代作為女子真的太強勢了，看其他皇后或妃子對皇上說話都是委婉的，也會給台階下，不會一直抓著皇上錯處鑽
前期皇上太爱她了 也是因为不好得到她因为如意不爱权势 如果前期皇帝不爱她根本得不到她

This is the start of the nightmare. The Emperor is absolutely jerk to the bits. Hope if he was incarnated he should pay for all the wrong things he did to Ruyi and to those he ruined lives when he was still a Emperor.

This is the sad story. At the end Ruyi had a broken heart coz definitely love has no place in the ancient Chinese royal history. Her fault was she fell in love deeply with the emperor while emperor although he also probably loved her he couldn't sacrifice his throne for following only his loved one. He should act like emperor expected to act.. Though he kept his love deeply buried inside till he died alone of old age.
The emperor had more respect for the first empress than Ruyi and loved ling more than Ruyi

When he was still a prince he was very inlove with ruyi, he wants her to be the main wife but his father disagree and now he forget his promise and love for her, good thing at the end she already gave up on him
I'm glad he finally told her what was wrong, he's been dreaming of his late father who died around the same age as him & he's worried he'll be the same. So he drank to cope with his fears & because he believed it would make him stronger (thus living longer). Sometimes men would rather deal with their problems themselves than share with others, because they don't know any other way to do it. He just didn't realize how it could hurt them both by not telling her what was wrong, but hearing she was FINALLY pregnant snapped him back to what's important. I just wish he could've stayed away from Consort Ling, but by the time he saw how evil she was.....it was too late.
I feel like she had given up on being a mother, so the knowledge of her being pregnant took a bit to settle in
It’s very odd that this ruler starts out so noble and righteous, using his high ideals to make hard choices that make his kingdom strong and then betrays everything he built with drink and cheap women. Sad very sad
He starts out witty and clever. Some of the things he did early on made me really like him. He ended up a mere shadow of that man.
So much sadness on this series. Cherish the moments of joy.

The Europeans were plagued with incest and genetic mutations, but I've not really heard much about genetic disfigurements when it comes to empires that utilized the harrem system such as the Chinese and Ottomans.
Wife is singular, wives is plural. European kings couldn't keep their pants zipped either, at least the Chinese emperors were open with their many concubines and didn't hide the number.

По всякими состряпанными ложными обвинениями, Император наказывал её много раз. Он даже не извинялся. Просто говорил что её скомпрометировали, и чтобы она забыла обо всём. Как можно такие вещи забыть? Зная, что она не виновна, всё равно наказывал. Ей приходилось доказывать свою не виновность. Но есть и такие моменты, когда Император защищал её, и мстил за неё несколько раз. Искал доказательства не виновности. Столько женщин вообще не нужных было в гареме. И у каждой свои цели были.Хорошо что он не свихнулся. Но меня убило и то что после всего он её запер. Очень подло поступил. Его гарем, это как стая хищников. У меня сложилось впечатление, что кроме гарема, у него особенно дел и не было.
Могу и ошибаться так как плохо знаю историю китая но если это тот император Цинуля о котором рассказовали в передаче Вокруг света времен союза то это был один из немногих сильных императоров китая а в запретном городе появился роскошный дворец куда согласно завещанию императора мог входить только он и ни одна женщина не могла переступить его порог был создан специальный штат слуг для поддержания дворца в порядке а в саду росли зеленые сливы.Для китайцев этот дворец всеровно что Тадж Махал для индейцев. Может это запоздалое признание в любви и просьба о прощение за все страдания которые ей пришлось пережить поего вине.

Вот это тот самый случай, когда эти тётки делали карьеру через постель императора. Один раз переспал, и всё блин, из наложницы в жёны. Пока не надоедают эти наложницы. Его любимую женщину подставляли столько раз, а он наказывал её без конца. И кто подставлял? Самые подлые тётки, убийцы и интриганки, включая королеву.

I don't really blame Consort Ling, she doesn't have any choice but to obey. And she did try to take the blame on herself at this point. She was between a rock and a hard place, the Emperor and Empress.

She wasn't trying to take the blame, She is the one that started the discord between the Emperor and Empress to begin with. She despised the fact that Ling Yunche was loyal to Ruyi, but she had only herself to blame for that because she used him to climb into the Emperor's bed. Once she showed Ling Yunche Her true nature he treated her accordingly.
She went out of her way to give the emperor alcohol that was way too strong because she wanted to court favor. It was definitely her fault.
There was NOTHING to be admired in this drama. The emperor was a drunken sot into debauchery; at every turn his lust could not be sated. He was a cruel, heartless, self-centered, self-indulgent tyrant. There was nothing I liked about him, not even from the start. Ruyi never wanted to go into the palace in the first place, but she loved him and gave him what he wanted instead. She would be ruthlessly disappointed at almost every turn. He never had sincerity with any of his dozens of concubines only a lust for more and more sex, booze, and if there was rock-n-roll, it was heavy metal!
The king it's based on, Emperor Qianlong, was actually like that, so the depiction is completely accurate tbh.

Love Ruyi, very beautiful and elegant, feel sad for her for everything she went through and the emperor did not even appreciate her at all. Hated the consort and she was not even attractive and acted like a spoiled little brat.
