well, that worked out fine... I bet the devs knew about Vipers history of losing heroes and designed that one specifically for him. Imagine them sitting there giggling and writing "use the hero in battle often" :DD

I think this is my favorite campaign in the lords of the west dlc.
I had so much fun, especially on this and the second map.

Amazing use of all the game mechanics in basically every map. Incredible. The third mission is my favourite aoe2 mission. Period.

@benbrocas3586 if you haven't played my custom scenarios check those out. If you liked Hautevilles 3, I think you'd like Ragnar's Saga (not Raids), Vandals, Rise of Genghis Khan, and Seljuk.
game: you come to a fork in the road. Your units are battered and exhausted, many of them near death. Both paths are unexplored, but enemy units are sure to be nearby. What do you do?
Viper: I split my party in two halves and send them in different directions and then stop paying attention to what happens
It demonstrates a fundamental difference in play between a primarily MP and a primarily SP player. The former relies on his macro to outproduce an enemy while the latter plays more like a commander of troops.
In case anyone is wondering, the Norman barons have basically no armour or upgrades, so attacking them isn't as scary as you might think at first glance.

I like how the minimap accurately depicts southern Italy with Bari and Sicily
Argyrus has some monks in Bari, so you can use them to heal your knights. Keep the sarjents to deffend the southern base from sarracen attacks Once you have the four Norman bases, send everything to the northern base of Guaimar. Setting your troops propertly, go neutral to him, et voilá. You have a walled base with TC and resources around to rush Yellow castle.

Something I absolutely love about this mission is that the AI predicted I would betray him. I was like 4 minutes away from declaring war on the greek guy by destroying his castle hard and fast and he attacked first and drove me out of my eastern territory. I don't know if it was intentional but that was very good. Something also told me he payed Cyan to harass me because Cyan was a massive pain in the ass to everyone except purple.

Quoting the age of empires wiki, as the mechanics are complicated and confuse many (It is impossible to convert any unit in the first 3 intervals - unless you have inquisition):
"From The Conquerors onwards, AI Monks attempt to convert their target at regular intervals, called here conversion intervals (CI), roughly equal to 1 game-time second. Once a Monk is at conversion range of his target, his first CI starts. His three first CIs have no effect on the target and only serve as warm-up. Starting from the fourth CI, the Monk has a 28% chance to convert a unit at the end of every CI. The Monk is guaranteed to convert his target at the end of the 10th CI. Switching targets does not reset the conversion intervals; however, moving in any direction does reset it.
The Teutonic team bonus adds 1 minimum CI, 2 maximum CIs, and 2 resistance levels.
Faith adds 2 minimum CIs, 4 maximum CIs, and 3 resistance levels.
All units start at resistance level 0, except for the Scout Cavalry line and Eagles, which start at level 8. From level 2 onwards, the chance to be converted at every CI is (28/n)%, where n is the conversion resistance level. Actually, units are not always guaranteed to be converted at the maximum CI. The probability of conversion switches from 0.28/n to 10/n starting from the beginning of the maximum CI. Units at level 10 or below are always converted, but Scouts and Eagles with at least Faith researched have a low probability of being converted. If they are also Teutonic or allied to a Teuton, they not only have a high chance of reaching that maximum CI, but they can randomly survive 1 to 2 extra CIs before being converted."
