yea I agree. (mained krakon roller for all 3 games lol) even with main power up in splatoon 2, there were still times where I was literally robbed for hitting a direct shot, not killing the opponent.
@@marekdec8605 thats not bc of the damage its a common thing in s2 that a direct hit would not KO bc of some kind of bug. In s2 roller was good in a soloq environment bc of damage up so its def not that. roller could kill from so far bc of it.
I absolutely agree that the map design needs more flank routes, it makes those wild moments when you wipe a team from their side so your team pushes, hope they patch it in the next season !
They didn't... They maybe added a pole to the maps, so chargers view is a little more obscured. I think what they did to eeltal alley is okay, since it actually obstructs chargers in a few angles, but wahoo world is a joke. It's literally a pole in the center of the map, that was added. And that's it... (at least I didn't notice anything else of great significance). How will this stop chargers. I mean... If they're up there and you aren't, you're dead, no matter, if there is a pole in the middle of the map. Thanks nintendo, how considerate of you... On hagglefish market, the pole in the middle makes at least a little sense. And on mincemeat metal works they basically took the tri-colour map and copy-pasted into the normal modes. But I like the cars on a stick. They also obstruct chargers in a valuable way. But still. Wahoo is a joke. Especially, because the chargers will probably still hit you, because of the bad net code... (And mahi is still garbage btw)
@@diputsru1182 Imma be real, often in splat zones I will end up swapping to deco, or I will just get destroyed. In that game mode I have yet to find a productive way to use zip, and if I did it'd need to outdo 'zooka somehow.
I think the biggest thing Roller needs is the ability to ink its feet. Roller mains tell me, how many times have you died because your feet weren't inked so you could not escape a situation or refill ink when direly needed? It's quite sad when you think about it.
I agree with everything you said in this video, except that Octobrush needs a nerf. I think Octobrush is fine as it is. It has a huge hitbox, but it sacrifices kill time and strafe speed for it. Seriously, you are basically standing still while swinging it, and your kill time is much slower than most weapons of that range, especially if it's a 4 shot instead of a 3 shot. It's kind of like Clash Blaster in that sense, it's almost impossible to dodge it's attacks in close range, but it struggles to close the gap, and even if it does, most weapons can kill faster than Octobrush at its range.
Former Roller Main here, as soon as I played the Splatfest World Premiere I almost immediately noticed that something was very off with this weapon. It plays and functions the same as it did in 2 but something felt off. I had less freedom to do what I wanted to, and the fact that it takes forever to kill anyone, which ultimately led to me abandoning it and switching to tri slosher. The points you made are exactly what’s wrong with this weapon and I’m praying that Nintendo fixes it because I honestly miss playing roller.
You really didn't tell a lie when you said this will be your biggest and best video. Really good pacing, transitions and footage. Also love the use of Mario 64 sound effects. Keep up the good work! 😋
As a Roller main all the way from Splatoon 1 it's been kinda hard to get back into the flow with how it currently works cause of all the movement options and wierd flick kill potential like holy crap I'd like to use the roller when it works. Now with the upcoming Krak-on Roller I'm hoping Nintendo can at least attempt at fixing a few weapons, cause I really hate how they do a smaller update that barely does stuff then gives us a huge update at the end of the season which feels so wrong, balancing in this game needs to be a thing cause this game feels wonky even though it's "finished"
While Splat Roller absolutely needs some buffs, I'm not sure they'd be willing to buff its turfing capabilities as much as you'd like since it would overlap with the Big Swig Roller.
Honestly this is why big swig shouldn't exist. It never needed to be made, they transferred the solution over to a new weapon instead of fixing the existing weapon which was in dire need of a paint buff (amongst other buffs).
@@libertyadams5961 eh shooters get to have a bunch of overlap and similar style of play all the time( aka splattershot, 52, zap, splash etc) that’s apart of the reasons there’s never a point in any meta where one or 2 of these options aren’t top tier, I say let other classes get the same
@@osiohanu8166 That's true, I wouldn't mind the overlap so much if they'd prioritised splat roller/other existing rollers first. They really thought 'ah, the roller class meant for putting down paint ironically can't paint very effectively... Let's bypass all the existing ones and just make a new one just for that'. Feels rough when the other rollers suffer from terrible/inconsistent paint to some extent. They seem to have this weird approach of ignoring existing problems and just adding new things/feautures in place of it... Kinda like how they addressed the crab meta.
I really enjoyed the play style of Flingza and mained that for a long time. I didn’t realize how much rollers actually struggled due to poor map designs until I began focusing more on other weapons. While I agree with eveyrthing that was said in this video, I think the biggest core issue is the map designs
It sucks how some maps are not roller friendly, i like using shooters and rollers. but unfortunately some maps are most likely forcing me to use carbon or wiper as good offensive weapons
As a former Brush Main, the reasons it doesnt have to be precise are as follows 1. Brushes are kind of a weapon that tries to flank alot. And if youre coming from behind a person, it means you may come from behind multiple people, which is where the consistent dmg comes in. 2. Octobrush doesnt have a ranged attack like Rollers jump swing. It does have dashing, but when the Splattershot Pro starts walking backwards, Brushes kind of struggle to... do much against that... especially since these maps hit Brush hard as well, causing Octobrush to be very reliant on Zipcaster. 3. If youre a Roller, and nobody knows where you are, theyre gonna be moving in some predictable ass movement patterns, meaning unless you mess up particularly bad, youll probably 1shot them. However, I do agree that Roller needs some buffs. Id say 50 min dmg and a slightly larger 1shot radius would be fine. Low paint is kind of supposed to be one of its Main Weaknesses... but it could be alleviated a bit. (Also, I got hit by falloff dmg and lost fights due to that so many times its crazy. Did you know Octobrush starts doing less damage before the brush itself physically stops touching the enemy? Cuz I do. Both weapons struggle at least a little but here, even if Id say yours gets the worse deal by a good amount. The answer is to buff and not to nerf.)
When you talked about the damage that reminded me of when I tried Dynamo at the start of the game. It was fun at times but the inconsistency was maddening and I saw no reason to keep playing it when I could just use my main (Rapid Pro) and actually have reliable damage. I wonder if Rollers as a whole need 50 damage minimum.
I've been playing almost exclusively standard rollers since the first game and even though they kinda suck now I have no intention of changing. sure I don't do great all the time, but when I get a good string of kills it feels soooo satisfying. still tho, the number of times I was positive I hit someone dead centre point blank range just for them to slip away is unreal. would not complain about getting any of the changes you mentioned. I also think the 1HKO hit box should be a bit wider at close range
Great video man. i definitely would love to see some roller buff in the future because they definitely need it bad. you also have a point about how slower weapons like roller have been struggling in this game for a while. things like blasters, dualies, rollers and brellas (especially) all would benefit from slightly less endlag and more mobility to help them in fights more because of how the game has become more increasingly fast paced over the years hence why the struggle in the first place.
As a roller main, I think that the “brushes need a nerf to match the rollers” is just a roller main huffing copium. Brushes are fine the way they are. I do think that rollers need a buff to paint tho and damage too. Carbon could also do with more paint I say too
I noticed this, as a roller main coming from 2, playing dynamo roller - or any other roller for that matter - on 3 has been EXTRAORDINARILY difficult. The point about no flank routes and teams with arena control I noticed especially. When my team is doing good, I am doing good. When my team is doing poorly, I am always going "where the hell is my team?" every time i die to someone behind us I cus i am stuck on cleaning duty and have terrible damage output and everyone is so far away that saving my ass is out of the question.
@@4xzx4 Roller FUNCTIONS, brellas have no damage, no functional shield and no good kits. I can't agree when roller is home to a top tier (Flingza) while brellas have 3 low-bottom tiers
@@sonicrunn3r895 I'm talking about the Splat Roller, the regular one. The main weapon. The roller has never functioned either because of lag. Its stats are horrendous to boot. It gets outclassed by other rollers, and the roller class gets outclassed by other weapon classes.
As a 5 year octobrush user and deciding to try learning the roller again for invading options, holy shit something does feel wrong with it and nothing like it was in 2, like it's painfully slower. It doesn't mean Octobrush needs a nerf. We already nerf ourselves with our one kit, zipcaster, hungry suction bombs and the need to be lurking more than usual in the bad maps. I've learned to become a shield/protector for my charger and splatling friends though. Roller in this state could possibly do the same protecting role even if you end up dying at the same time. It could do with the buffs you said though, but the maps...yeah only time will tell with that one.
As a roller main, I NEED these changes. 50 on vertical flicks and painting the feet would be amazing. I don't think we need wider paint on verticals though. A bit overkill imo
Perfectly sums up my experience with rollers in S3. I used to enjoy going stealth mode and getting behind a team in S2 but it’s not consistently possible in S3, and I’ve turned to using sloshers now coz I don’t hav fun with rollers anymore
Ok but the thing is. Octobrush DID get nerfed. It went from an up close 2 shot with less range to a consistent 3 shot with more range to compensate for the slower kill time. Splatanas get heavily punished for missing harder to hit shots and because brushes can’t one shot up close and splatanas require so much precision often miss kills rollers can easily get in the same scenarios
I've been waiting for a video like this. I'm also a roller main, and I think the 3 things the roller needs currently is more consistency in paint, also in damage, and a effective range buff (50 damage minimum long range), and you covered all that. About the splatanas being extremely similar to rollers- YES. Since they buffed splatanas, they've just been a roller with 10x better stats. And about the dynamo: Ignoring its garbage kit, the dynamo actually is facing a problem, and I think when Nintendo buffed it they're pushing the weapon into a bad direction. Right now the dynamo is struggling a bit to be a backline for how little effective range it has, so I think they should massively buff the vertical's effective range (suddenly something like 80 damage from longer ranges) because there is no reason to use the vertical most of the time. If Nintendo buffs both attacks, people are still going to use the horizontal.
I knew I was performing bad with Rollers on this game,, but honestly, never thought thing was just as bad It's ridiculous how sometimes even swinging it right at the enemy's face they survive
I love playing roller but its got the problem that TF2 spy has. Sure its great at the stealth style of gameplay, but also, most every weapon would be better if the enemy was turned away doing something else. How I’ve ended up playing it a lot is sort of as a bodyguard or using it to hold down a choke by popping out and surprising them when they try to approach. Roller needs more paint if only so it could play a unique support/slayer hybrid. Ideally more range on the instant kill hitbox too Personally I’d also like a taller hitbox on the flicks. I cannot count how many time my point blank range flicks flew straight over a person
Ain't that a good summary, as I love spy and roller. I find the only advantage is to improve the speed, pair it with respawn punisher... As if going to die a lot? Why not focus on having the best chance of being a very annoying pest by having better offense? Can't be a problem if you remain for them to stay splatted? I think it is annoying to KEEP the pressure as harshly as possible.
I see why you put in so much work for this video. This is kinda why I haven’t decided to main the roller yet. It seems so good in theory and then I see all of these problems with it. I love the roller, but it needs some buffs maybe. This video gave me some inspiration to try out the Octobrush, though. I like it so far.I’m a big fan and love your videos btw
I've been maining the roller since 2 and you've literally summed up everything I've been mentioning since I started but i swear my friends thought i was crazy as hell thank you so much for this reassurance
I main Dynamo Roller specifically. And it is painful going from 2 to 3 with it. My only attacking option is the main weapon, I don’t have the luxury of any kind of bomb to fall back on, and god knows tacticooler isn’t doing anything in a rough spot. Even the base kit in 2 had a damaging sub and an offensive special.
I'm so glad I saw this vid in my recommended. It's immensely satisfying (as a roller main) to see sploon 3's roller BS finally being brought to light. I've been scouring youtube for videos on it for months but most people don't really address roller inconsistency and general subpar melee value in 3 either because they don't notice/care as non-roller mains, or because issues with brella are more glaring and cause roller to go under the radar. At times I thought I was crazy, but seeing the occasional RUclips comments from other roller users and visiting sploon 2 kept me sane. People thought I was crazy for going back to sploon 2 because 'ew that meta was gross' but at least the main I've known and loved for going on 4 years actually works there. That's all I need to somewhat enjoy splatoon. Swings felt more consistent, maps worked better, I actually made splashdown pair really well with curling, and missing point blank flicks due to shitty net code/inconsistencies was near absent in comparison. I really hope they buff it before fresh season because honestly you've highlighted pretty much everything currently wrong with the roller, and if it stays the same, fighting the meta will become even more depressing, and I might lose my will to play altogether (I play comp). It's definitely no fun when your 1hko weapon somehow misses and you get instantly eviscerated by a 52 that wasn't even looking in your direction. I never used to be worried about the meta in 2 because although it was bad, using roller skilfully paid off and felt satisfying: I could combat it in my own way, but now? It's very frustrating, as much as I love my main. I can only hope that Nintendo doesn't ignore splat roller for much longer. Thanks again for bringing a spotlight to this, and hopefully it'll make it easier for me to explain my issues with roller to them.
As a fellow Roller user since S1 and now more of a Splatana user, this video sums up all of my problems with the weapon and class as a whole really. I'm STILL trying to figure out how when Roller had a consistent hit box to be a reliable weapon even after it's nerf around 2.0 it was considered an unfair weapon yet Slosher in S2 gets Roller's old hit box and still does yet it's considered a fair weapon ? ? ?
Many weapons being blatantly worse than everything else and still being ignored is just depressing. I'm so desperate to play Brella that I almost want to return to Splatoon 2. Almost.
5:47 I completely agree, I'm not good at the game I play with sticks but I was doing a rank up battle for s on tower control, I had a teammate who used big swig and went 2/21 and 1/20 I was so pissed what made it worst was I pressed stop and still got him
And matchmaking sucks, it’s like they think we want to face Japanese pros or something and we end up being slaughtered by them, especially when you see golden tags with those names, or worse, they have splatlandian youth and you think,”Well there’s some newbie here.” But then bam! They destroy you and your team.
I played all 3 splatoon games and I started to main the roller recently (and actually not losing rank for the first time since I got to S+). I either destroy the enemy team or I just can't do anything. Relying on teammates and maps lacking flanks are the most based points you made, I hope they buff the weapon, but honestly I doubt it.
I Hope they buff the Dynamo next patch. Slightly better paint and more consistent damage would help make it really solid. Also a better kit would be nice lol
I don't really play rollers, always been more of an E-liter guy (I mained it in 2 with the Ink Armor meta before it was strong because of 3's map designs, so don't be mad at me XD), but I have had fun with rollers before. I agree with your synopsis of the weapon class and the changes you would make. And I FULLY agree with you on Octobrush's condition. That weapon has no right to be as strong as it is.
i used to main kensa roller back in splat 2 and i can agree with your points after you've pointed them out. however, i also noticed that it's current kit is really bad, for roller at least, let me explain. as i've said , i used to main kroller back in two, and kroller back then had bubble blower and splat bomb, an already solid kit that was further amplified by the roller being able to combo with splat bombs to pop the bubbles instantly, this gave kroller something it always needed, an effective entry tool. this coupled with the fact that splat 2 had mpu it greatly helped rollers find a niche, being a entry support/aggro hybrid that can do the job pretty well on both fronts but not to a point of being able to fulfill both roles at once. but now in splatoon 3 it lost mpu making it a lot more inconsistent, it lost it's great synergy kit to a good kit without almost any synergy what so ever, and now with the new movement options it struggles more than ever to even find a niche since if you want aggro/kill heavy weapon, pick any meta shooter. if you want to play entry, pick octobrush, sploosh or 52 gal if you want an assassin weapon, pick carbon deco. if you want a good ranged weapon with good kill power up close power pick any of the splatanas. if you want support pick jr. in this game roller isn't good at anything, and at it's best it is simply okay while there are other weapons that are simply better at what it's trying to do.
To me the biggest thing I see holding it back is flingza. It has a slower but longer range vertical flick and it's horizontal mode is just as consistent if not even more consistent than base roller. And for those strengths it also for some reason has missiles so it isn't even forced to play stealthy even though it can seemingly do that just as well as base roller.
i was a roller main in one but quickly fell off that train by three--thank you for putting into words what i couldnt!! also your little vibrating guy in the corner on the endcard killed me
I always wondered why octobrush felt ever so slightly more op than most weapons. Or why my kd ratio was so bad with roller compared to other weapons. You have opened my eyes. Thank you.
As an octobrush main, I completely disagree with what you said about octobrush. Octobrush’s damage is very fair and kinda average. It’s kill time definitely isn’t great, especially in its 4 hit kill range, where it’s kill time is somewhat inconsistent because it’s shots randomly don’t hit. Every other stat is pretty average, so if it’s hitbox was reduced, it would really struggle. Plus, you’re removing part of what makes brushes special. I mean, what other weapon class doesn’t require as much aim? Octobrush is pretty well balanced rn and I’d say it’s a very solid niche especially with zipcaster. Definitely doesn’t need a nerf.
Plz I hope people realize that splatanas are not like rollers or brushes they are way more similar to a rapid blaster and they are not a melee weapon they want to keep more of a distance they have range and it’s way more effective to use it.
the net code affects umbrella players the most.🥶 ever since the jump from Splatoon 2 to 3 I've was forced to switch weapons. please let me shoot my wepon with ink strike. PLEASE. i need anything
Honestly as a roller main...im not quite sure about the paint buffs, because by making it a better painter...wouldnt that kinda defeat the purpose of Swig existing? Either way the minimum damage and paint-the-feet buffs do sound nutty, i just hope the maps in the future allow roller to thrive a bit better because i think that they are the main reason of why the weapon sucks so much right now. Not a comp player, but thats just how i see it.
As an Octobrush main I am deeply insulted by this video, I personally think that brush did get significant nerfs in s2 such as it no longer being able to 2 shot and also it does require a lot of skill to use, as you said it has a slow kill time compared to other slayers and also majority of the time I am 4 shotting because almost any weapon can just kite backwards and avoid your shots due to a short range. Other than that though this was a great video keep up the great work. Edit: spelling and grammar
Constructive editing criticism if you want it: try adding a frame or two to your flash commentary so it's easier to pause on. Even at 25% speed, landing on the frame in order to read it is a chore. Referring to 2:08
As a fellow V roller main, I couldn’t agree more. I’ve been able to get really good with it, but only with pretty consistent playing over the course of a couple weeks. I’ve gotten some absolutely brutal moments of unlucky damage falloff and what I call “inked-foot syndrome” (enemy ink stuck under your foot)
I realized something the other day during Splatfest. I wasn't having much luck running inkbrush or my dualies - I even tried using a Splash, until I flipped open my my weapons list and suddenly realized "Oh yeah. I have my roller." That made my heart sink so much. I have been a roller main since S1, and have always felt like I contributed well to my team with it. S2 same thing, I had a casual team with dreams of being competitive, and I pulled my weight well. Now in S3 I nearly forgot my beloved splat roller existed in the first place. I really like what you suggested in terms of a buff. It will somewhat overlap with the big swig roller, but I think the OG deserves it, there are so many times I've died because a flick attack that would have absolutely been a pick in S2 didn't work in S3. I really hope they rebalance it soon
My first comment on one of your vids was how rollers suck. There's also how blasters and rollers have similar OHKO range but blasters don't have to precise. Even if they miss its useful. Then there's the fact that vertical fling is tied to the jump button because now you can't squid roll or surge without being forced into a vertical fling when horizontal is probably a way better option after using those moves. Roller really feels like an og3 weapon. Except unlike chargers and shooters. They don't evolve with the game. They're super niche and so although the other 2 og classes haven't changed much, they've never had a reason to unlike rollers. Every weapon class introduced can beat rollers even undercover brella. Undercover brella can tank a OHKO shot from a roller so you'll need to do at least 2 shots and that's considering you're close enough. When you can be easily beaten by the worst weapon in the game. Then there's a problem.
I always play aggressive with rollers, also sneaky, but not like hiding in ink waiting for someone to come by. More like observing what happens in the distance and either drop down into someone or charge into it, hoping they didn’t see me. It usually pays off pretty well. Clash Blaster I really hate though, I don’t stand a chance with it with ANY weapon that I’ve tried so far. It looks like they got such a short range, but then you blink and BAM! You’re dead! I always struggle the most against splatlings, blasters and dualies. Splatlings because none of my current weapons have that much range to reach them, blasters often kill me with their indirect blasts before I even spot them and dualies because of dodge rolls disorientating me. I used to struggle with snipers, but I’m getting better at avoiding their lasers. My favorite weapon right now is actually the Big Swig Express. It isn’t perfect, but people underestimate me and the weapon, so I do often outsmart people with it.
This explains so much of the struggles i've been having. Started playing splatoon with 3 and fell in love with the roller, so far still my favorite by a long mile, like i've got the hang of it, but now i understand why sometimes it's gets so clunky for me. One that hit me hard was the map control thing you explained. When my teammates have good map control i absolutely demolish the other team with my kills on the double digits even in turf war (getting the highest number of splats in the whole match) But when It doesn't happen... Well... *sad violin noises* Also, i feel vindicated, friends been saying you don't need to aim with roller, that is "baby's first weapon". WE DO NEED TO AIM IF WE DON'T WANT TO GET SHAFTED. Dare i say we need to learn how to get a aim as perfect as a charger player. The roller flicks aren't that reliable, If you don't get It perfect, you're punished, badly. An that's about it. I loved your video. Amazing job!
I'm a Carbon Roller & Inkbrush main. In S2 I played primarily Carbon, but in S3 I didn't know what it was but playing roller didn't work as well, even though the playstyle felt the exact same and I found myself switching to a primarily Inkbrush user. I think this video explains quite a bit
I am a Hydra/backline player nowadays, but I got my start in splatoon playing Krack On, it was by far my favorite playstyle for all of 1, and Hydra was a close second, but 2 already started a slow descent for rollers, I barely used them in 2, they were mid at best, outside of dynamo, which is okay, but now in 3 they are just unusable to me wven with these god tier kits, and I doubt I'll use my baby Krack On that much outside turf war and some memes with friends until base roller can like, not be a worse splatana wiper. I want rollers to really feel a lot more powerful, and at the moment they are outclassed in every imaginable way. It sucks. I'd love to see your changes for sure to splat roller, I'd use it for sure.
I’ve been maining roller, primarily carbon, since splat 1 and I agree with all your points. Even with the carbon deco getting the most perfect kit it could have gotten last patch, it suffers from some of the problems normal roller does, mainly the absolute dogshit map design not facilitating any sort of flanking or sneaky playstyles the carbon and splat roller thrive off of. The entire game is just hold forward and crab (unless you’re a liter. Then you don’t even hold forward) and hope your crab breaks through the enemy crab. Here’s hoping patch notes tonight have some drastic changes, but honestly I’m not holding my breath
Agreed about the maps. As a former brush Main it absolutely ruined the weapon for me. everything is narrow and u have to fight everything head on. I really need flanks to come back.
While I like the Brush Roller comparison, PLEASE DO NOT ADD FALL OFF TO BRUSH. I won't lie that is the most corporate thing I've ever heard you say, nerf something that's good so that everything is bad.
I’m a Roller main, but while trying to save up Sheldon Licenses, I started favoring the Dark Tetra Dualies, and I’m seriously considering becoming a Dualie main. I just hope that Nintendo gives Rollers a bit of a buff; the Rollers have a ton of potential to improve if they’re given a buff!
5 stars on carbon deco. Love it. Jump flicks are my friend... but stamper is just better at range. Either way, love not contesting the e-liter on mincemeat. Why doesn't my team get an e-liter? Fair and balanced.
The octobrush is my main weapon and I think you’re not giving it enough credit because while it’s easy to use it’s very difficult to master- especially in higher ranks. Due to the fact that it’s easily countered by longer ranges weapons (like splatting mains, AKA my least favorite people on this planet /hj) you need to plan ahead and use the fact that you kill quickly and can roll around to approach people faster to splat them. You have to be constantly moving around and aware of the opponents locations to get into a position where you can splat them, and that’s more difficult than you might think once you pass A rank. Insinuating it needs a nerf is also pretty ridiculous to me because at best it’s a mid-tier weapon despite me singing it’s praises a sentence ago. I also love how it doesn’t require motion controls to get good at it because I experience tremors in my hands and trying to use motion controls has cost me matches in the past. Sorry I typed so much, I just wanted to get that out there.
The worst part about Rollers not being able to paint your feet is that it's almost impossible to escape fights without rolling manually, which is slow and leaves you vulnerable. There's Curling Bomb but if you're low on ink you're fucked. My brother has been a casual Roller main since Splatoon 1 and he dies constantly.
This video is the definition of my current status with roller. I love it stuck with it almost instantly when I got into 2, Kensa Roller was my absolute favorite. But now I find it a challenge to keep it viable in most of my matches, I really don't want to give it up after so long but I'm starting to feel like rollers just can't keep up with the splatoon 3 play style. I've experienced and thought everything that was said in this video and I couldn't agree with you more!
Even though Ive never had a main weapon and never will, I used to use the roller in Splatoon 1 and 2 quite a bit as it was one of my favourite weapons to use. But I’m Splatoon 3 I BARELY use it and every time I do use it I either lose by a landslide or just barely win. And the amount of times I died because I COULDN’T INK THE GROUND BELOW ME is so frustrating! Also I believe the Octobrush doesn’t need a nerf since it’s only a mid tier weapon, coming from someone who often uses Octobrush.
Kind of ironic how a literal paint roller has worse painting than water guns, a windshield wiper, and a stamping press/chainsaw hybrid thing. To name a couple examples.
Well Itotally agree with you, in splatoon 2 I was playing mainly roller but in splatoon 3 I don't play it anymore because i now it's trash, and that makes me sad, because it is one of my favourite weapon, and the one I definitly played the most, so I would like to have a better roller in my hands to just enjoy to play roller again, because in S+ it's just impossible to play roller now... I'm also waiting for another roller kit, even if curling bomb is probably the best sub to deal with roller, I think bubble is not a good ult with roller. Kraken might be good with roller, as well as shark (but it's a trash super so I would prefer kraken...)
Yeah I completely agree with this! I've been using the roller for around the same time and it was very good in Splat1! But yeah I feel like they really did it dirty in Splatoon 3 with the points you gave here. Very good video and analysis!
Awesome vid dude you were right it was amazing, the only thing is I think octo doesn't need a nerf considering I never even see them and they aren't currently very meta but everything else I agree with and again great vid
Also for some reason, Rollers have a slightly longer wind up for their flicks out of squid form which doesn't sound like the biggest deal but it gives them more time to move away or makes you stay accurate for longer. I have no idea if this was always a thing.
Roller main since start of 2, fully agree, best video coverage on roller's flaws I've ever seen. I tend to ragequit a lot given how dependent I'm on my team's comp, performance and map situations to have even a slight chance to move and do my thing, playing roller in Splatoon 3 is like playing Kingdom Hearts' Critical Mode at level 1, everything will 1 shot you if you're not patient enough while the game is constantly forcing you to not be patient at all, and since there are no patterns but just human players here it becomes even harder when played at peak Hope it gets damage and paint buffs, maybe a little like they did with Naut where it got a little of it's S2 MPU changes back as standard for S3
"Splatanas, these are the melee wepons that brushes wish they were" octo brush I don't have to aim and ink brushe I can be speedy and annoying like sonic in smash. I'm more than happy with what we got But seriously, your right about how rollers deserve better in this game
ive been saying!!! rollers need better damage scaling (honestly even if its make it similar to slosher why not guarantee two shots) and cancellable flicks, as well as just being able to roll faster
the fact that horizontal flicks don't ink your feet is the whole reason I stopped playing roller in the first place. the map design doesn't help either though. at least now we have poles in mid lmaaaoo
As a roller main I think it needs a very small damage and speed buff, a huge paint buff and maybe make it so it's one shot range is just a bit longer.
yea I agree. (mained krakon roller for all 3 games lol) even with main power up in splatoon 2, there were still times where I was literally robbed for hitting a direct shot, not killing the opponent.
Damage buff? You want this to be Splat 1 Launch???
@Klotzy I said a very small damage buff, not making this thing an octobrush.
@@TheBetterCrustacean ok. Good.

I think the biggest thing Roller needs is the ability to ink its feet. Roller mains tell me, how many times have you died because your feet weren't inked so you could not escape a situation or refill ink when direly needed? It's quite sad when you think about it.
I'll just keep it simple.
A lot.

Octobrush has a faster kill time than roller (unless it 4 shots and your opponent is able to actually react while getting hit since its not a 1 shot)
@@SorellaKez that doesn't make sense, roller instakills if you use it right. are u talking about dynamo?
@@SorellaKez Sure, Roller has a slower kill time. If it fails to hit the one shot, if it does one shot, the kill time is significantly better.

Amen!!
I think S3 either gutted the horizontal hitbox on vroller (not carbon) or the S3 netcode is so crap it feels much worse than S2

While I agree with eveyrthing that was said in this video, I think the biggest core issue is the map designs
yeah i picked up flingza after not using it for a few months and i’m liking it more than base roller rn ngl
funny that right now the splat roller is top tier (in comp splatzones only tierlist)
It sucks how some maps are not roller friendly, i like using shooters and rollers. but unfortunately some maps are most likely forcing me to use carbon or wiper as good offensive weapons
As a former Brush Main, the reasons it doesnt have to be precise are as follows

As a die hard splat roller main, who has never played another weapon, I 100% agree with you.
Same here.
TILL THE END 💪🏽
The difference the splat roller is a lot slower than both those
I've been waiting for a video like this.
I like when some weapons don’t have to aim because not everyone enjoys aim intensive weapons. I wouldn’t change brush but roller was done dirty
I knew I was performing bad with Rollers on this game,, but honestly, never thought thing was just as bad
It's ridiculous how sometimes even swinging it right at the enemy's face they survive

Ideally more range on the instant kill hitbox too
Personally I’d also like a taller hitbox on the flicks.
1:47 literally if they had just rolled instead of trying to flick again they would have got the kill.
LOL THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING for someone who "used roller for 8 years" they whiffed so much 😭😭
I see why you put in so much work for this video.
I love Dynamo roller too, I love the sprinkler sub but why does it have a supportive special? 😭
what do you mean "destroyed?" Youre getting more love than the brellas
Almost.
The roller needs to go back to its former glory. Guns will always be the meta and rollers and most melee weapons need a leg up.
5:47 I completely agree, I'm not good at the game I play with sticks but I was doing a rank up battle for s on tower control, I had a teammate who used big swig and went 2/21 and 1/20 I was so pissed what made it worst was I pressed stop and still got him

Actually octobrush got a huge nerf from splatoon 1 to 2 with making it so you can’t two shot

Facts
i used to main kensa roller back in splat 2 and i can agree with your points after you've pointed them out. however, i also noticed that it's current kit is really bad, for roller at least, let me explain.
as i've said , i used to main kroller back in two, and kroller back then had bubble blower and splat bomb, an already solid kit that was further amplified by the roller being able to combo with splat bombs to pop the bubbles instantly, this gave kroller something it always needed, an effective entry tool. this coupled with the fact that splat 2 had mpu it greatly helped rollers find a niche, being a entry support/aggro hybrid that can do the job pretty well on both fronts but not to a point of being able to fulfill both roles at once.
but now in splatoon 3 it lost mpu making it a lot more inconsistent, it lost it's great synergy kit to a good kit without almost any synergy what so ever, and now with the new movement options it struggles more than ever to even find a niche since if you want aggro/kill heavy weapon, pick any meta shooter.
if you want to play entry, pick octobrush, sploosh or 52 gal
if you want an assassin weapon, pick carbon deco.
if you want a good ranged weapon with good kill power up close power pick any of the splatanas.
if you want support pick jr.
in this game roller isn't good at anything, and at it's best it is simply okay while there are other weapons that are simply better at what it's trying to do.
To me the biggest thing I see holding it back is flingza. It has a slower but longer range vertical flick and it's horizontal mode is just as consistent if not even more consistent than base roller. And for those strengths it also for some reason has missiles so it isn't even forced to play stealthy even though it can seemingly do that just as well as base roller.
i was a roller main in one but quickly fell off that train by three--thank you for putting into words what i couldnt!! also your little vibrating guy in the corner on the endcard killed me
bro i had that while I was flipping through animations and I had to use it somewhere in the video lol
I always wondered why octobrush felt ever so slightly more op than most weapons. Or why my kd ratio was so bad with roller compared to other weapons. You have opened my eyes. Thank you.
I think a neat idea is to make the horizontal flick better for painting, and vertical flicks very good for splatting
I mostly use flingza for the utility these days, but most other rollers I cant really use mich anymore. Good vid btw
Plz I hope people realize that splatanas are not like rollers or brushes they are way more similar to a rapid blaster and they are not a melee weapon they want to keep more of a distance they have range and it’s way more effective to use it.
I feel like the next season is this game's last chance for me. If there arent drastic changes to fix what's wrong I might just abandon comp entirely.
the net code affects umbrella players the most.🥶 ever since the jump from Splatoon 2 to 3 I've was forced to switch weapons.
please let me shoot my wepon with ink strike. PLEASE. i need anything
Other than that though this was a great video keep up the great work.

thank you, i will do this from now on
I mained roller in 1 and 2 then they gave it a special that can’t kill im praying krak-on roller is good
As a fellow V roller main, I couldn’t agree more.
I have my roller."
That made my heart sink so much.
Well... *sad violin noises*
Also, i feel vindicated, friends been saying you don't need to aim with roller, that is "baby's first weapon".
Damn and I was just thinking about maining roller…
Ihate how everything boils down to "Maps are S**t"
Octobrush didn't get off scott free. I got a huuuuuge nerf back in splat 2.
Let, the rollers, paint. All of them.
Also, all rollers that can kill in 1 hit with a roll, it should have a verticale flick that 2 shots minimum
"dead-center tier" weapons are good imo, personally I think the roller playstyle is fun and since it isn't meta it's fun to fight against as well
Even though Ive never had a main weapon and never will, I used to use the roller in Splatoon 1 and 2 quite a bit as it was one of my favourite weapons to use.
Before 3 came out I was a flingza main ( then change to Tetra's) and OMFG this map so crazy open like af, now it's also hard to get in with Tetra's
I tend to ragequit a lot given how dependent I'm on my team's comp, performance and map situations to have even a slight chance to move and do my thing, playing roller in Splatoon 3 is like playing Kingdom Hearts' Critical Mode at level 1, everything will 1 shot you if you're not patient enough while the game is constantly forcing you to not be patient at all, and since there are no patterns but just human players here it becomes even harder when played at peak
Hope it gets damage and paint buffs, maybe a little like they did with Naut where it got a little of it's S2 MPU changes back as standard for S3
Okay at least I know I’m not alone when I miss a flick by half a centimeter and the enemy just turns and two taps me with their shooter.
I feel you about the match making, used rapid deco got 25-3 and my teammates got 6 combined
"Splatanas, these are the melee wepons that brushes wish they were" octo brush I don't have to aim and ink brushe I can be speedy and annoying like sonic in smash. I'm more than happy with what we got
But seriously, your right about how rollers deserve better in this game
5:50 oh hey, me in every game after the ninja squid nerf
ive been saying!!! rollers need better damage scaling (honestly even if its make it similar to slosher why not guarantee two shots) and cancellable flicks, as well as just being able to roll faster
the fact that horizontal flicks don't ink your feet is the whole reason I stopped playing roller in the first place. the map design doesn't help either though. at least now we have poles in mid lmaaaoo
