His guitar hooks, fills, and arrangements got him noticed but would only take him so far. His voice turned out to be his greatest story telling, most pleasant, instrument.
A brother was in our town years ago. So friendly and walked downtown with my daughter's and I. He sang at our festival. Wonderful and he spike highly of James and wife. Love James sounds
I agree w/ Smilesawaityou! A bang on analysis of how James, the notorious introvert and iconoclast, managed to pull us in instead of alienating us ...those who have crossed the ring of broken glass for the past 4 decades have never been short changed. Anyone who has seen him live knows his ability to play with his VOICE, not just his guiatar - and to bend it in complex tapestries with his crack back up singers, is nothing short of transcendent ~ may he "never grow old...never die young" ~ ~ ~
Woooaaah- lol, he sure is an expressive guy! Haha, lots of emotion and hand gestures and everything when he talks. Haha- very interesting to watch. Cool.
@ejgiv Seems to me J.T. was a complete artist from the beginning. Great writer and singer. Virtuoso guitarist. I can't think of anybody, before or since, who compares well, especially in terms of talent. And I'm not particularly interested in his politics or sexual proclivities. I enjoy his music. For me he's the king of the singer-songwriters. He basically ushered in that whole genre. That's innovative enough for me.
Sexual Proclivities??? You mean being a solidly married man forever, with 4 kids, and being committed to his wife Kim, now over 20 years, not sure I follow, but that sounds pretty committed, and basic to me......
not in reality -in her own mind. She's mega-famous and crass beyond words - that does not a legend make. Bone up on some real music ''n get back to us. Meanwhile, we'll enjoy this incredible stuff.....
I love Liv Taylor (what a nice guy) - love James even more! However the only thing that puts me off Liv is that he looks just like Jeffery Archer - poor bloke!
James Taylor got better and better and better, especially the guitar, no one can mimick it, when they do, it sounds atrocious.........he definitely improved his guitar, if that is even possible.....
This fucking guy should have been an actor - he takes his brother so seriously, its absurd. Dude, you're talking about, your forking brother, not Jesus Taylor. Get real.
James was Jesus? - James was MLK? - No, James was a person who was lucky to live in the time he lived and was fortunate enough to have the Beatles producers listen to him. Hey - if you're going to talk about James, why not tell us about his heroin addiction, his arrogant past, whatever...
Addiction is a disease, that's like saying, 'fuck that cocksucker over there with diabetes, or depression', sounds like you do not understand medical conditions, or the amazing strength of a James Taylor to overcome heroin addiction and do it now for over 36 years straight, it is something unheard of........
Easy for some to dislike successful people...and successful he is...grabbed himself by the bootstraps and pulled his crap together.....some people should look at their own skeletons in their closet...easy to be negative
Yuck this guy just talks nonsense! The kind of person you get away from because he just bores you with his rubbish talk! Poor James having this weirdo for a brother!
Yes, I agree completely. James Taylor’s guitar playing is amazing! The core. Many “experts” miss that fact.
His guitar hooks, fills, and arrangements got him noticed but would only take him so far. His voice turned out to be his greatest story telling, most pleasant, instrument.
wow, this man so appreciates his family
Lovely to hear a brother speak highly of another brother!! James Taylor's lyrics were brilliant too! Did he write all the lyrics to his songs? 🎶 🎶
James Taylor is one of the best guitarists out there--unbelievably great fingerstylist.
Thanks for putting this excellent musicianship lesson interview up on RUclips!
He is completely right! The base of James powerful music is his outstanding guitar playing.

Still love ya Liv! Great to see this.

Guitar playing is uniquely JT!!❤❤

It's interesting to hear James cover "On Broadway" on the new disc since it's practically Liv's version.
James's voice has a hook...too.
Ok, this is interesting.
@ejgiv Try playing one of his songs. He's not a strummer.

He must be sick of talking about James.
Besides, Britney Spears is a legend, already. Sad, but reality.
I love Liv Taylor (what a nice guy) - love James even more! However the only thing that puts me off Liv is that he looks just like Jeffery Archer - poor bloke!
James' guitar playing? Didn't he let that slide ages ago. Same with Paul Simon.

No one can mimick James Taylor, they try, and fail miserably, no one has that sound, truly Original and alone.....Genius

No not really, I would disagree. I've talked with him on many occasions, and all I do is sit in awe at his genius.
