Great show ,so much info and options for truckers!!! Your subs and viewership is growing, but it should be much larger as your show is AWESOME. !!!!!!!💥💥💥♥️

My wife and I have our own authority for 14 months. We just jumped in and it was tough at first but best move ever. Y’all are definitely ready, ifta and back office is easy. Y’all got this
Another great and very informative video!
I want to share a bit of my experience, i’ve been a company driver ,lease o/o and I had the same fears as everyone else, but I now run flatbed under my own authority and all I know I should have done it sooner,
I run local around a 200 mile radius and bringing in 5k to 8k weekly even with a new MC , I’m even adding a second truck this year ,
I always try to encourage o/o to get there own authority, there is plenty of money out here , i’ve been meaning to make videos about how I run off the load , but haven’t had the time, good luck out there!
Hey Omar! Thanks for sharing your story we had no idea this whole time. Everyone’s experience is so different, but most people don’t regret getting their own authority. We’ll keep you posted on our authority progress 😊
I did all my insurance and MC paperwork on my own , good luck !!! if you guys need more info I can share my startup cost

I just went through your page earlier lol waiting to see if you posted.. took a nap and woke up to a video!! Lol

Hey Tash, nice to see you again!
Great video💯
Awesome I just got my authority active today one thing I can say is at least in my state the IRP process is pretty long
Great news kids!! Going to save some money! 👌🏼👌🏼
RTS where I saw fuel discounts over $1 but you have to build up to it. Own your authority is a headache but if you have plans to stick around its a must and the only right way to grow in this industry IMO.

I had my on authority for a year and then found it to be more profitable to be least on to a carrier and I did that for 12+ years. In my opinion the only reason to get your own authority is if you have aspirations of creating a trucking company with multiple trucks. If you get with a good carrier like I did and I received 90%Of the revenue that’s the way to go. Because when you consider watt that 10% that you give up does for you it’s well worth it. You get dispatch service you don’t have to wait to get paid to get breakdown assistance they take care of all the permits and your and you can be part of a group insurance as well as fuel discounts. This is just a name a few of the benefits off the top of my head. However if you’re giving up 25% of the revenue then yes it’s not worth it but there are multiple carriers out there if you do some research it will give you a real good percentage and will assist you and it’s a win-win situation. Best of luck!
Hi, may I ask what carrier that was? I haven’t seen one that pays 90%.. thank you 🙏🏽
That’s amazing info! It’s definitely the debate we’ve been considering the last few years, all the little things (like permits since we run cross country) etc. I’m not sure if I had the aspirations of running a trucking company yet, haha. But I’m glad you found a place that only charges 10%, I could never pay 25%-35%+ like most of the owner Ops out there. Safe travels ☺️
Why don't you mention the name of the company? Thanks
Geoffrey Sherriff
, what is the name of your carrier?
Well Give your Carrier a shout out!!!... who is it?
Hello greetings from Mexico you are the best I love your videos
Hey guys. Wonderful video. Love that you do tons of your own research and weigh the options, very smart. To get your own authority is very simple and takes about $1k-$1.5k in just authority fees. Each authority is roughly $500. Progressive( whom I’m with for insurance) weighs the length of DOT# ownership as one measure if you’re insurable. To get your MC authority you’ll need to have qualifying insurance coverage, a vessel, and a USDOT#.
The cost of insurance depends on location, types of coverage, age, driving record, owned or financed equipment cost, and types of cargo hauled. We’re dry Van and we pay abou $3.5k for 2 full units with one full unit financed at federal minimum required insurance standards. You’ll also need a BOC-3 agent.
We factor through triumph at .0299% and their customer service imo sub-par. Gotta give my son a bath and will post more info regarding what owning you’re own authority is like. You already do 99% of the work
Hey Calvin That is amazing info!! I can’t wait to see what our numbers will be exactly, when I do it and glad you’re taking good care of your son 😊
@@natashatrucking thank you Natasha. Turned out my baby girl wanted a bath too so bathed her as well and then had to make her a bottle and put her down. The LIFE 🥰. Anyway, progressive has fantastic customer service, but they are a bit pricey, but it’s worth it. Once you receive your EIN go straight to the bank and open your business account and take whatever line of credit or credit card they will give you to help build your business credit. After, go get your Dun and Bradstreet account setup for your business credit building. IFTA is a breeze to deal with because you file quarterly and most the time we file we owe nothing. Your ELD will track all the miles through each jurisdiction (at least KeepTruckin does for our company) you’ll also want to get weight and distance permits for NM, OR, KY if you travel through those states frequently otherwise they will put you out of service once you hit the ports of entry…not NM though you can get that permit at the port of entry.
Oh, my advice, get your USDOT # now and just sit on it. I know insurance company’s are not taking new business ventures (based on usdot longevity).
You 100% correct about the new MC # and brokers not working with new #’s I got mine and sat on the number for 6Mo and just ran local CA while my MC gained some “experience”
Once you get your MC# you’ll be placed in the new entrant audit system with the FMCSA and they’ll audit you for these items:
-level 1 inspections done in the 1st 12months of operation.
-90 day bit inspections
-drug and alcohol enrollment and testing(we use NEW ERA DRUG TESTING).
-pre employment drug and alcohol testing for at least one employee
-driver license for at least one employee
-random drug test for at least one employee
-30 days of at least 1 driver’s e-logs
-insurance documentation for your company showing the federal minimum requirement for interstate commerce is covered.
-registration for your equipment(CAB Card)
-IFTA license)
-one BOL showing you’ve participated in at least one interstate run.
I believe that’s it…this was done by California Highway Patrol for our company which is based in LA. Structure your business in any state that doesn’t have income tax or workers comp mandatory(TX, FL, TN, AZ, NV) you may want to verify the last 2 states in the list.
What else? I’ve been doing this for just over 1 year now and it’s worth it, but it’s tough. Hopefully, you guys keep running string like you have!! I would recommend learning tons of repairs yourselves because it gets you outta hot water, unfortunately experience with repairs come with time and break downs.
Anyhow sorry for the long comment I hope the best for you and your partner keep the content coming. We’re based in LA so if you’re ever in CA and need something send a message or something if you guys need help or connections with mechanics and what not. A great mechanic is going to be the biggest asset to your company next to you and your partner. Good luck
@@natashatrucking OOOOOO forgot, do not buy new trailers or anything older than 2012. Trailers are not like trucks the tech in trailers is not new. Fully plated, swing doors with E-trac. The breaking system and lighting in new trailers is the same since 1900 lol. But it’s all the same. We have a set of 2004 and 2012 trailers and we have no issues booking loads. The 2012 have air ride with shocks and the 2004 are spring ride. Hope this helps you save money when you buy trailers.
Calvin Cox, does california allow you to do business there, if your company is registered in (TX, FL, TN, AZ, NV) ? and do you need to pay california taxes too?
@@gavnonadoroge3092 As far as trucking goes, yes. BUT, you have to have interstate authority. If you have a Ca driver you’ll need to pay the bs money for workers com(mandatory) unemployment insurance, and I couple other things.
If you do not have you’re authority, and want to run solely in CA you’ll need to file for a foreign business entity in CA which will be subject to taxes, but I’m not sure what taxes.
I wouldn’t recommend anyone structure a business in CA unless that individual is already a resident. CA is a quick way to fail in trucking if the person doesn’t do their home work. Our fuel prices are well above $6/gal.
You're far FAR ahead of us. I've had my CDL since 98.
My Wife has had hers since 18 or 19.
Awww no don’t say that! We’re all out here doing our own hustle at the end of the day ☺️
Hi guys being honest me and my girlfriend got inspired by you guys when we saw your video about your 2021 truck. We immediately went out to buy a truck we've been trucking for more than 4 years and we got a new 2023 freightliner. We do have plans on growing over the years and we jumped into our own authority. The truth it's not that bad when you first start with it you pay a lot of money for the first year just in insurance but not a big deal if you guys love ride. Some papers to fill out but nothing too crazy and if you already pay for almost everything, why don't do it for cheap. Wish you the best and we can help with info if need it.
Heyy we love hearing that we can inspire you two!! And you’re absolutely right it seems like a lot of work but we already do everything else 😄. safe travels and remember to always make time for fun adventures!!
You and your partner are awesome!!! Great content. I would have started out doing things differently if there was social media with awesome people like you showing how it’s done. I would have my own company with probably 300 plus trucks by now. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy and make over 6 digits a year as a company driver and home on the weekends for my reset. I get home during the week sometimes also. Keep up the good work!!
I love hearing that you’re happy at your job even as a company driver can be a fantastic career! Keep up the good work driver 😀🙌
@@natashatrucking thank you
Wow absolutely so gorgeous as always salute from Texas chula and safe travels
My two cents. It all depends where you are at in your experience and what your goals are. Leasing onto a carrier is less of a headache. Especially if you have built up shipper relationships. Yes you have to pay this and that for the convenience of not having to deal with certain parts of the back office “flow”. Everything is dependent on your goals and your goals can change. If they do it’s ok. Great content.
Your quality in information deliverance is grade A+ and u r gifted for public speaking on camera. I Enjoy your videos. Yah keep up the good work.
Thankyou!!! 🥰I swear one of the coolest comments I’ve ever had 💖
I feel like working on purchasing a dry van is something you should already start on especially if you want to order a new trailer. Certainly you could could lease a dry van until you get the one you order.
Most places won’t lease/rent to you until your authority is 1-2 years old.
Also, for factoring, see if they’ll let you factor only certain loads and not everything. A lot of the bigger brokers have quick pay which can be cheaper than factoring so you’ll wanna be able to utilize that. For fuel, i use NASTC and get great fuel discounts that are comparable to the big mega fleets. One last thing….you can be a sole proprietor and get your authority. Good to have a LLC for tax purposes but not a requirement
Thanks for the tips!! Greatly appreciated 😃
It is no moreover for a LLC, sole proprietary will let someone sue you out of everything. LLC will only let someone sue you for business assets.
Protect yourself
@@rickbakeman8640 if you are the operator, an LLC will not protect your personal assets.
Check with NASTC also for fuel discounts.
Will do!
I have my own authority. First year insurance was 12 hundred a month, total. I use OOIDA's insurance.
Nice thx for the info!
So would you go with the Carrier like you did or go straight to your own authority after driving as a company driver???
Roll on
OOIDA can do everything. You have to write 2 checks, one to the Government for $300 for each authority and one to OOIDA for what they charge. They do pretty much everything. If you are using brokers now with whoever you are leased to, you might as well get your own authority.
I've been driving since 1996 was 23 still driving at 49 n July truck industry as whole change so much my suggestion is do ur homework n weigh pro n cons love content u all b safe

Great video! If you set up your LLC in Florida, will it have the same sales tax advantage as you got in Missouri when you buy a new rig, trailer, etc?
I think there are companies that take care of getting all your paperwork and authority as well as compliance with the DOT. I think DAT does all of that too. It’ll pay itself and it’s worth it since a lot of carriers let truck owners use their authority. Otherwise they wouldn’t do it.
Yes OTR told me DAT does that, I had no idea been booking loads with them for 3 years lol. Will be the first one I check out
❤️
Not sure on what your carrier charges you but if you add up everything they charge you per load it most certainly is more than you would pay for your own insurance! And you would keep 100 percent of the load. Minus factoring. Most carriers lie about the rate con and tell you the load pays less than what it actually does. But own authoritiy is a headache so if you don’t want to grow and have more trucks and trailers might make sense to stay with a carrier. Depending on the state you live in insurance can be crazy expensive! But if you do want to grow into more trucks and trailers getting own authority is a must. As the amount you’re paying a month to your carrier is more than another truck payment would be! Just do the math.
Hey Natasha I have a question, I know you Run your own loads under your carrier. When you book, do you just send your BOL’s to them and that’s about it they take care of the rest?
Yes that’s exactly what we do, and we just communicate directly with each broker for the delivery of the load.
Hey love the video you always have great content you should try Progressive they get they usually give you a discount after 2 years lot of times it's around two grand a month but if you can afford it to pay it all at once I've seen them go as low as $8,000 for the year hope this helps a little good luck
Hey Thankyou 💖and $8,000 for a year?! Dangg, Paying in full will be top priority it saves a ton
How can one build there business credit before leasing on to a carrier. I think you mention that in your video an want to build mines before jumping on.
All I know is you one thing you can do is open a credit card under your LLC, and use it that’s how you start building it’s credit history
Tash ya'll can have mine!
I would recommend getting your own LLC and Authority… We used a company to do all the paperwork for us it was a piece of cake and we still work with them for our IFTA and all other permits so we started in 2020 new Authority and LLC insurance was $1200 monthly for 1,000,000 liability and 200,000 on cargo we are now to $890 a month and as far as paperwork we use a factoring company at 2.7% and get paid in 1-2 days I think it’s worth it. We also dispatch ourselves so we don’t pay the usual 5% for dispatch… So yes get your Authority and LLC it’s gonna save u a lot of money vs using a carrier
That’s exactly what we’re looking to do! Especially from finding all these companies that help with authority, long term it will save us plenty. Wow Thankyou I took a screenshot so me and my partner can plan it out. 💜
Safe travels ☺️
ELDs like Keep Truckin' Big Road and others, have tools built in to help you calculate your IFTA and get it filed. Really fast and easy. You don't spend THAT much time with paperwork. Take a photo of your BOL, send to your factoring company and you're done.
I would encourage you to talk to some owner operators who are successful and have 5 years to 20+ years s owner operator. I can certainly point you to a couple of them if you're interested.
Thankyou! And yeah that would be very nice of you 😊
@@natashatrucking oh and Justin has been an owner operator about 4 years
I thought about getting my own authority as well but I don't think its worth all the headaches. I think its easier to just latch onto a carrier and let them worry about all that red tape.
Ugh I know right. I’ve literally been going back n forth on those exact same thoughts lol for a minute

I saw J creepin in the bunk! More J!
Fuel discounts are based on fleet size.
Your authority and how recent it is does play a huge part when first starting out. Chasing brokers regarding payment can be a huge hassle. When I first started out, I found that I needed about 90 days worth of running costs available due to the hassle. The delay from submitting payment to receiving payment can be months. The factoring companies handle it and pay upon submitting the bills, but the fees are horrendous long term. Since you are an established team, you can always try to contact the companies you run the lanes on and create your own lane.
Due to your own research, your experience, and your business acumen why don't you create your own company? Seriously. Set up a transparent company that doesn't hide behind click bait. Show every cost. Every charge. Every deduction.
BTW more J!
Hahaha you’d have to try and convince J to see more of him 😄. the only way I’d set up a company is if I have enough experience in the industry. I also appreciate companies that are straightforward and honest with their business.
@@natashatrucking Tell J I got hundos!
Seriously though, if I wasn't established with my own lane, I'd sign on with y'all because of the brutal honesty you have.
Wish I could get a key fob for my truck lol. I checked into joining your carrier, said I'd have to do a probation period where I couldn't self dispatch, so that won't work for me.
Yeh! We had to do 3 months too 🥲
@@natashatrucking I just bought my truck and got the title. It's an Illinois title but my carrier uses Indiana plates. Weird setup. But I want to use their plates, what do I need to do if anything with the title? I live in Ohio

I have a few questions....
How much time off do you get? Is it realistic to be able to work a month straight then take a week off?
Yes! It’s realistic the most we ever did was I think 2 months straight 2 cross country loads each week. But that’s our limit lol and after we just took 1 week off.
Those were our mega hustle days tho.
Usually we’ll do 1 or 2 days off here and there when we need it

CloudTrucks offers 1.5% factoring and TruckSmarter is about to start factoring at 1.5% as well.
It might cost $1,000 to get your authority, that is counting the $300 to the DOT. $3-4 thousand for insurance down payment. If you bought a new truck you shouldn't have any problem buying a trailer. Don't know if I would want to pay $70-80,000 for a new Van trailer now though. And I would want a new trailer.

Yes, most of brokers do not like giving loads to new authority. My recommendation to you is go ahead and start your own authority and open an account with Amazon. Amazon will let you haul their loads no matter how new your authority is. In six month to a year your authority will be old enough to open accounts with pretty much every broker out there. With Amazon you won't even need factoring because Amazon pays every thursday. Another convenient thing about Amazon is that 99% drop and hook. Be safe out there yall!!!
Interesting thanks for the tips I will look into that right away and see if they pay good enough!

Don't get authority in Florida insurance costs will kill you. You can get LLC and authority in any state you want y not caroline or another more affordable state for trucking I met a guy paying 50k a year for insurance he was OO as you guys are in s Florida so good luck with that...Jus do your DD lil deeper, JustTruckin they in caroline I think, has good material on load selection and general stuff GL
How many times a week do you workout or do you just use it to shower.
Both and around 3 times a week or whenever we can!
Trailers are very hard to come by these days and they are super expensive if you do find one. I wouldn’t go on your own until you have your own trailer period. Also, the insurance is crazy high for new entrants since you’re pretty much limited to progressive. I was quoted $23k based outta San Antonio, TX and my driving record and credit are spotless. If you’re getting 85%+ leased on with someone i wouldn’t rush into your authority. Good luck with whatever you choose. I chose leased on and low headache, lol
Hey Sean, that’s pretty much a lot of our same reasons too! Our carrier can’t even get new trailers right now it’s crazy out there. Our friends also got quoted around 25k for insurance and they’re far from new. I’m glad you’re holdin up though 😃
@@natashatrucking I’ve heard new people paying up to 50k in insurance it’s a lot 😱

I would have to say having your own Authority is not all that it's cracked up to be.being that both of you are still relatively new to the industry I'm sure you have learned alot in the 2 and a half years.one of the biggest and most important thing about having your own Authority is to have a huge financial safety net.there Is so much more, but I don't want to write a book here.just Remember out there 1500 things can go wrong and they probably will.Best of Luck to you.
I hv my cdl, my mc n dot#’s, hv my ein, hv my llc, building business credit.. ive been driving for a small, tiny carrier for 3yrs. I’m weeks away from having my own truck..i want to start w a larger but not too big of a carrier b4 i activate my authority. I live in orlando. Any carrier recommendations?
Hey that’s awesome are you gonna stay with a carrier just for a little bit then move over to using your own #’s? You can always check out our carrier since you sound pretty independent
Yes exactly..its silver trucking llc correct? Whats the best way to get ahold of them? Anyone in particular i should ask for?
If you factor your loads, they usually give you a tool to check the credit of brokers. NEVER deal with shady brokers and they won't be a problem getting paid. Many factoring companies will do NO RECOURSE factoring which means you get paid, they collect from the broker. If the broker doesn't pay them the factoring company takes the loss.
Insurance, first, consider the source of your information about insurance. What's that persons driving record like? How many tickets, accidents, etc. What's their experience behind the wheel? Age, how long have they been driving overall, things like that.
I would encuorage you to lease a trailer rather than buying, IF you can lease from a small local or region company. BIG trailer leasing companies will charge you monthly lease PLUS mileage and limit your mileage. Small local/regional companies typically only charge monthly and no mileage. Besides, you can write it all off on your taxes too
Thanks for all your info, extremely informative. I already know one of our biggest obstacles is our driving history. Record is clean but so few years of behind the big wheel
@@natashatrucking 2 years is plenty of time. I had 6 months CDL history
You can get your own authority now and just let it mature so when you are ready to go on your own, brokers will see that your authority is old and will work with you. Just get it and sit on it, and let it mature
I’ve heard a few people say this now, def gonna look into that, thanks for the suggestion! ☺️
BAY BAY.
No, I don't think you have to be under an LLC before you get authority. I didn't anyway, been a long time though. I would call OOIDA and talk to them and let them get your authority. They will get you set up in KY. for your KYU#. for NM. road tax, OR., they pretty much do everything for the 48 states, except getting your tags. It is really no trouble doing paperwork each Qtr., if you keep up with your mileage each trip. It may take 30-minutes to an hour to file all your quarterly taxes for everything. KY., NM, IFTA, Oregon is monthly. Really everything is on the computer.
I'm shocked you would be using Silvers fuel card. That is insane. I have another post on here. We used silvers fuel card for a month because I thought they would give us the real discount. Anyone or company gets a huge fuel discount with an EFS card. I suggest you immediately go to Mudflap and pay for your own fuel. Look at Lilac road in the STL. Just played 3.85.
Oh we don’t use their card most of the time, I forgot to mention! Haha yehhhh
I would suggest work with a factoring company that gives you something in return

That’s exactly what we do 😊 silver allows “self dispatch” we we run the brokers credit through silver and get an approval before we book a load with that broker

Then that’s what we’ll do thanks for the tip!☺️
What % OTR charges you for factoring?
Depends on the company
I love how goofy ( in a darn good way) you are ! Is your partner goofy as you ? Probably not, as opposites attracts and he is never or hardly ever on camera. I love your personality, and look forward to seeing your next video ASAP ! Are you originally from StL ? I am in KC.
You can get your authority now, make it active but not use it for 6 months or so....that way your "new authority" isn't new when you're ready to go on your own. I was only held back by JB Hunt. I ran Amazon, CH Robinson, Coyote and Convoy with new authority
I thought of that but don’t you have to have your insurance set up first before you can fully get your authority?? If not heck yeh that’s how I’ll do it
@@natashatrucking my own experience...I got my authority after having my CDL less than 6 months.
I paid about $1800 monthly for the first year. Now less than $900 monthly.
@@natashatrucking insurance is cheap in comparison to many other things.
JB Hunt and Schneider are the only BIG companies that made me wait until the authority was at least 6 months old.
Amazon, Uber Freight, CONVOY, Coyote and others didn't care
@@blulynxcommunications If I may be so bold, 1800$ a month for what exactly?
@@LoztDaze that was my cargo, liability insurance, collision insurance, general liability insurance for my LLC...I pay about half that now

If your scared say your scared not everyone can run with the big dogs you just have to stay on the porch

How this island babe from Kapolei, love you Tash, crush it hard girl!
Awww 🥰 hey
Can u do a backing video
I have a bunch of them on my tiktok @natashatrucking check em out 😊😊
Sure! the flatbed one on shipping wars doesn’t count cause it’s a skateboard lol
It would not make any difference you gonna pay 10k factoring $15 k more for cargo,it’s only make sense if you planing to grow more, more trucks, but having one truck you gonna be same,in this company you work for you have 100% freedom, but you can still call Jason trucker coach he is expert, lol
Lol thanks for your tips ☺️

@@natashatrucking u are so welcome beautiful Natasha trucking keep up the great work u definitely one my favorite RUclipsr ever on here keep it up
Do you don’t have any experience in having your authority?
Noope just research
@@natashatrucking
It’s not worth it with just one truck. I think it makes more sense with multiple trucks.
🥺🥺😞
Hope y'all doing ok?
Oh boy. Self dispatching at Silver now, thank God. Several things. Not paying taxes on a commercial vehicle is a federal thing. No one pays taxes for their commercial vehicle regardless of the state the company is in. You can google anyone's MC number for free with just about any info you would want. Study what brockers do. If you are using Silvers fuel card, stop doing it. They take at least a $1.00 a gallon.
Haha we’ve been self dispatching at silver for almost 3 years lol. Also may wanna fact check that, the state and federal have different tax policies on heavy Highway vehicles, that’s facts straight from the dealership when we bought our truck. 🤷♀️
@@natashatrucking what tax are you talking about? Sorry, MO isn't special. You know they are laughing at you.
@@natashatrucking then the dealership lied to you.
what is authority ?
Pretty much running under your own numbers - in a nutshell
@@natashatrucking thanks im about to sign up to get my cdla and im just nervous because of the test im trying to learn as much as i can thank you once again
So basically you guys prefer to focus on driving & making $ without the headache of the business side of things I get it I'm not judging running a business is allot of work especially if you arent good @ delegating. For example trusting someone else to drive your brand new truck while you do the business stuff can be nerve-racking too 😩 good luck with everything.
Thank you!! Definitely having more fun running and making money instead of getting drivers and running the books 100% of the time.
I’m happy you see it most people don’t 😊😊
