Watch as Adam gravels in his seat over the terror that is a blue blob taking over random animals on an island named after Sergio Leone! Will he survive this ordeal? Will he be taken over by the awfulness that is SPACE AMOEBA? Make yourself some tea, sit back, and take a listen.

I am really glad you found something in it i didn't (no sarcasm in that statement). It takes all kinds of kaiju nerds to make the world go round

+AN Productions so would you of replaced gezora and ganimes with Oodako and ebirah ?

+AN Productions who would you say is more silly looking out of Viras and gezora ?

This is a great review, the intro was hilarious. The story of toho's downfall in the 70's is interesting and as for this film, the only two things i like are Akira Ifukube's score and the kaijus (even if the fight was mostly lack luster and Gezora wasn't apart of it).

It's called Joy. It usually helps while watching these kinds of things.

Then listen to my KKE review in which I fangasm over the epicness that is Dr. Hu. Or the Latitude Zero episode where I say it's fun. Or any of my podcasts tackling the G films by Jun Fukuda.

Nah, I get it man, you're actually one of, if not my fav Toku RUclipsr. I like to listen to you even though I may not always agree. I just finished rewatching Space Amobea with my Girlfriend's 3 year old, and I can definitely guarantee it was made with a child's sensibility at heart. It's astonishing to me that all these gentleman involved with the making of these films are all long gone, but their hard work is still being appreciated by children decades later. Regardless if Honda-San didn't enjoy making this or even like it, it still brings smiles to lil buggers this very day. I appreciate all that you do my friend. Cheers!

What always puzzled me is how they got promotional stills with both Ganimes and Gezora battling each other, when both monsters were played by the same suit actor, Haruo Nakajima. Maybe they got an extra suit actor just for those promotional photos?

It was done in a primitive version of Photoshop. It was like editing a photo except manually. A huge chunk is also painted, at least in the posters.
As for some of the pictures with the two actual suits, usually they placed one actor in one suit, and left the other one empty. Because it is a picture, they are not concerned about movement, they just care about the single frame.

Oh, thanks, good to know. I've always wondered how they did that.

Hell, I find Space Amoeba way more entertaining than Dogora. Space Amoeba is one of my favorite Toho films. I also have an original Japanese theatrical poster on the way. I can't wait for it to come so I can frame it and hang it on my bedroom wall.

To be honest, I love kamebas, gezoea, and the crab kaiju (I cant remember its name). The movie itself isnt good but the music is opening music is pretty good.

Nice video ! I learned a lot about this disappointing movie, which I saw two years ago and it didn't impressed me that much.I see that you would like to watch the Dracula Toho movies (there are three). Being a fan of sci-fi/fantastic cinema, you will adore these films. I know a place where you could access to these but I don't wanna take the risk to put the links in my comment. I could give you these in a private message if you want.

You are so great on commenting. You bring life in such sad film. Your right about all these problems. If you notice the whole world was losen every thing then. I blame the war and assinations. Then later on HIV. Anything with imagination lost its glitter. Sword and sandell .creature features. Mexican horror and its hereo wrestlers. Italian horror films. Everything went down .if your SPIRITUAL and you are in toho way. There is bad force that is called arcons . they steal imagination make people dull its why industry died. And after HONDAS FAVORETE SPECIAL EFFECT MAN DIED. IT WAS END OF ERROR. DARN SAD

This and Megalon were the true deaths of the genre in japan period. But it always happens in phases, just like how they come back.

As I told BlueEyes, there is no way this is better than "Gorath", and this was clearly at the point in Honda's career where he didn't give a fuck anymore, exacerbated further by the recent death of his friend. And that little tidbit you revealed where he quit immediately after he found out the film wouldn't be dedicated to Eiji drives the point home further. That behind the scenes info truly was better than the final product itself, so thank you for sharing that. : )
As for the film, *sigh*, everytime I try and watch it, it always ends up the same. Completely boring, due to feeling routine, and none of the characters really being all that interesting. Honda's lack of enthusiasm clearly shows. It's a shame, as visually, it looks quite colorful, and the set-up has promise. I do like that Sahara and Yoshio traded roles to spice things up a bit. Gezora is the most ridiculous kaiju I've ever seen (outside of "Ultraman" type stuff). Ganimes & Kamoebas though, fair better.
Imagine a version of this where Oodako replaces Gezora, Ebirah replaces Ganimes, and Maguma replaces Kamoebas. Or even better, in a world where Zigra isn't owned by Daei, and he replaces Gezora. : )
And finally, is it safe to say that Arikawa was the Harryhausen to Eiji's O'Brien? (In a Mighty Joe type way I mean)
Is he the one who did most of the work on "Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster", "Son of Godzilla", and "DAM", but Eiji was credited, like O'Brien was for "Mighty Joe Young"?

+RovertLladnar Nosmoht No, Arikawa was not like Harryhausen. Harryhausen prefected stopmotion, while O'Brien created it. Arikawa just had his strong suits who studied under Tsuburaya.

True, true. But he still did a lot of work on those films I mentioned, right?

The Sci-Fi Dragon Actually, I was probably a little harsh. Though I still think Gezora looks pretty silly, he could do with some re-invention, something like the aliens from "Monsters". Ganimes and Kamoebas though, bring 'em back, and not just as a kill by a more powerful kaiju. That idea I proposed with Oodako (or Zigra) along with Ebirah & Maguma still would have been cool.
I'm going to revisit it soon, as I got a little bit of a kaiju bug. I might try the dubbed version. The Japanese original language is always superior, but I find if the movie is lackluster, and you're having to read the whole thing, it can affect your opinion of it. I try to give films in genres I like multiple chances. And I own all the Toho sci-fi films, so I might as well get use out of them.

It'd certainly be interesting if Legendary obtained more than just the Big Names for use.
Indeed. ; ) Well, it's more for the fact that you're busy trying to put everything together while reading the dialogue, and if the plot itself isn't too interesting, then it becomes a chore. I'm glad I've inspired you in some way. : )
It's quite fun on there; I've also joined Adam's group, Geeks 4 Geeks.

The Sci-Fi Dragon But even though I'd like to see some obscure kaiju make a comeback, I'd like to see some originals too.
Indeed. But Honda had his reasons for changing it after all. ; )
I think only Adam does right now. He and Andres seem to be the most active on there. I see a comment from Dillion from time to time, and hardly anything from Bill. : ( I could be wrong, but aren't we overdo for their YT comeback?

great review Adam. I just watched this one lastnight and boyyyy I tell you, I agree when you say it was hard to get thru. I really thought I was missing something. my initial thought after was, maybe I should rewatch it. but im glad you confirmed what I had felt haha. I cant believe this was done by Honda just surprising the overall lack of , well pretty much everything haha.

I'm glad you liked the review. It is unfortunate about this film, and I still find the making of this movie more interesting than the movie itself... which is never good lol.
