    Basically, it's the Karate Kid but with dueling guitars instead of martial arts. Willie Brown character is "Mr. Miyagi" mentor.

      @mikeharry1799 2 года назад +1

      Not really. He's scamming the kid to get him down south for his own purposes. The fact that he taught him something (unintentionally) on the way is coincidental. It was all the kid in the end. If you pay attention the last lick and solo (which won him the duel) is based on the stuff he learned in music school at the beginning of the movie...

    Steve Vai is a true master of the guitar stank face! None could defeat him! 😫
    He recorded both parts for the film, and Ralph Macchio was a very good study, because he didn't know how to play guitar but took enough lessons to be able to mimic the scales properly for the part. Both were exceptional at their roles. This scene is iconic!

    • @keithveloso2822
      @keithveloso2822 2 года назад +4

      I hate to be that guy, but let's give credit where credit is due. Macchio's recorded guitar parts and even his training for the film was done by Mr.Arlen Roth - virtuoso blues player in his own right who didn't really get full credit for his role in the movie. Guitar World has confirmed this with an article.

      @@keithveloso2822, you'd raised a valid point. Arlen had elevated Ralph's understanding of guitar and made it so that his performance could be as believable as possible. The guitar duel scene aside, he's why the movie has such effective guitar playing presentations.
      Being that guy is often awesome!!! 😄

    Some really great blues guitar throughout the movie. Steve Vai played both sides of the "cutting heads" guitar duel. That final note on the winning solo is impossible on a guitar and was done on a violin. Love the whole scene that builds up to the final duel.
    "I got me a big white boy outta Memphis, made a deal with me a few years back name of Jack Butler... cuts heads every saturday night. Discourages a lot of incoming boys..."

    It is funny to watch Steve Vai "try to fail" in the movie.
    He actually played both parts in the audio recording, since the younger actor couldn't.
    When he "failed" at the end, it was pretty obvious he wasn't even trying.
    Still, really good movie, in general.

  • @Tijuanabill

    The classical piece at the end was written by Niccolo Paganini, who was thought to have sold his soul to the devil for his musical skills. A very fitting piece to use, given the story in the scene, a young player challenging the devil's guitarist for his old friends soul that he had sold years prior.

  • @dukefritter6536
    @dukefritter6536 3 года назад +2

    As a kid i never understood why he couldn’t play that last part after showcasing so much skill but as I got older and paid more attention to the movie I realized that Ralph Macchio’s character played music from his soul, cause in the beginning of the movie his teacher tells him that he’s naturally gifted to play that music, that its in him, so when the devil’s guitarist (Jack Butler) tried to play it he couldn’t do it cause he has no soul anymore and through his facial expressions I kinda get the feeling that maybe at one time his character was gifted in the same way but gave it to the devil for fame and fortune.

    "Red Dress Whisper" -- that's what came to my mind as this video started. Sounds like the name of a movie or poem or song, or maybe even a band? I also had the great joy of realizing that if I watch this video on my computer rather than my cell phone, I can increase the video quality from 1080p up to 2160p (4K).
    Red dress whisper, in 4K quality. NO complain.
    "Yeees" -- and I love the quick wink right before the song starts. 😉
    I've never seen this movie or this guitar solo competition before, but I'm liking it right from the beginning.
    "Mamaa..." 😄
    Information Society had a song called "Make it Funky," and the words from that title came to my mind as a I watched Ralph Macchio begin his first solo. Lots of funk in this solo.
    Steve Vai says so much with his guitar and his facial expressions, without ever uttering a word.
    There's a little bit of sexual tension between these two dudes, though, I'm just going to go ahead and say it; especially the way that Steve Vai saunters over to Ralph Macchio and the look in his face as he's doing it. It's like they are comparing something else besides just their guitars?? Watch the part from 2:00 to 2:35 and tell me if I'm wrong?
    2:43 -- "What this guy wants from me?"
    Haha! 😄 I think I'm getting a pretty good idea of what he wants from him -- see my paragraph above!
    Hahahaha, the way the dancer now comes in, it just made me laugh! Even HER dancing is overtly sexual, to the point of almost being aggressive -- look at her facial expressions! There's definitely a lot of sexual innuendo here, now it's just including a female!!
    Steve Vai and Ralph Macchio -- it's like two peacocks vying for the attention of a potential mate, but they're using their guitars in place of their plumage (feathers, or "birdie hairs," as you might call them).
    Your facial expressions around the five-minute mark... 😄
    6:00
    Ralphie-boy is not down for count yet, is he? Here comes the comeback...
    7:04
    It's like Ralph Macchio is saying, "Take THAT!" with his guitar.
    7:35
    "milky young lamb"
    Bwahahaha!
    Yep, I think you got it just exactly right, Steve Vai no longer feels invincible, so he starts making errors because of a psychological thing. It's like the first time that Mike Tyson ever got beat. He was no longer invincible, and you could tell it in his later fights, he kind of lost that killer instinct to some degree. He became a bit more cautious and he started making more errors. "Fear is the mind-killer."
    My overall thoughts on this movie clip? Just like most movies from this time period, some of the facial expressions and the innuendo seemed a bit overly done, to the point that it was actually a little bit funny -- but the guitar solos were quite excellent. It reminds me of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," which features the concept of dueling fiddles instead of two people competing with guitars.
    My overall thoughts on this reaction video? This was a fun one!!
    😁💯⭐

    And the morale of the story is classical music trumps all lol. The style Eugnene(Ralph Macchio) isn't interested in anymore is the style that ended up saving him and beating the devil's guitarist. As a guitarist myself this is one of those holy grail guitar movies for me. Ralph Macchio learned to play guitar for this movie and even though thats not him actually playing he's been playing guitar ever since.

    This was an old movie from middle 80's that I saw back in the day.Steve Vai played all the guitar parts.If I remember correctly it has to do with a musician at the proverbial "crossroads"of having success in music in exchange for his soul.But watching you get worked up by Steve Vai is "adorable".I think Nino Bettencourt had a similar effect one video.Yuliya may have a "type"but they do play good guitar though. Rock on you beautiful Russian doll!🤟😉❤

      This clip is actually from the movie “Crossroads” (1986). I love the karate kid movies especially the first one. I grew up in the 80’s watching all those 80’s movies. Classics! Check out Cobra Kai 🐍 on Netflix, it’s a reboot of the karate kid made into seasons/episodes. ✌🏽

    To this day I hate the ending. Macchio gave up Juliard? to learn the blues. Yet at the end the thing that helped him win was his classical skills. So WTF was the point of the whole movie? Stephen King could have wrote a better ending.

    This clip needs a bit of an explanation. first Steve Vai is in this movie not the good guy, he is the bad guy. So in the end bad guys will always loose. Second Ralph show in the movie his classic guitar talents too Steve Vai who is only schooled in hard rock music and has no clue how to play classic music. That is the reason or clue why Ralph eventually wins in the movie. Ofcourse all the music is scripted by Steve Vai and Ralph is only an actor. A very talented Actor.

    02:59 are you practicing Spanish?
    Imagine selling your soul to play like a god, only to lose to a kid with a telecaster, this movie is a beautiful musical delusion lol
    How lucky that Daniel LaRusso received moral classes from Mr. Miyagi, because in this minute 05:23 after Steve Vai spits all the notes he could play in his face, the teacher he had in this movie stares at the ground looking to Daniel as if saying come on, we already lost XD
    This movie has many lessons to use in real life, it shows you that in very difficult moments you are alone and no one is going to help you. They also teach us that if you play those 2 notes 05:58 to Steve you drive him crazy, I don't know if I look at him scared because of that or because he changed the tone with respect to the one he used in the previous scene XD.
    There is another lesson, is that Steve Vai can only beat Steve Vai, because the 2 guitars that are heard in that scene were recorded by him.

    It's weird. Ralph's playing a telecaster through a Pignose with a 5 inch speaker and it sounds like he's playing through some huge rig. At least try to make it more convincing.
