Rode a new Street Triple R yesterday after getting off my S1000XR, and oh man, what a sweet package. I've been interested in the Duke 790 since it was announced, but I really like you can get premium components on the top spec STR. The brakes on the Street Triple are unreal; the extra power, extra fuel capacity, make it an overall better street bike. Tough call here, but I think I'll pay the extra $ for the Triumph here.
Interesting in that I went the other way (sort of). I had the str765 and found it lacking in power, way more buzzy (especially at 5500rpm) than my daytona and maybe more than my '18 s1000r, and the gearing between 1st and 2nd was too far apart given its torque for my riding style on twisty roads. The seat on the str765 wasn't very comfy either partly since its so leaned forward. Brakes on the str were excellent for me though. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on an mt10 which I found fun but I am so far really glad I switched from the 765 to the s1000r.
@@windyrun7979 I rode the MT-10 in TN (I made a video of it), sweet bike with a nice powerband and lots of mid-range torque, wheelied super easily. It's a great bike, but power-wise is closer to the Street Triple 765 than to your S1000R. Maybe I would have to spend a lot longer time with the STR to find its flaws, but from riding it on a canyon road (see my latest video) two days ago, I found it super nimble with a great engine, a phenomenal mid-range bike that would be perfect for tight canyon roads. Your S1000R would probably keep up and even pull away on the less technical turns, but your bike really falls under a different category, it rivals the Tuono 1100 and Super Duke R.
@@CubanRider Sounds like you really like the 765str and maybe found your next bike :) Wishing you the best-it does sound great especially above 8K rpm when it really sings!
Cuban Rider yeah, I'm 15000 mls on street RS hard fast riding on technical mountain roads, I haven't found anything that will take bends as well as this and have tried it against much more powerful super bikes again and again. If I had to race for money I would choose the RS
Triumph makes a more quality finish and gets more performances from less cc’s. It does cost more but you get what you pay for. I’ve owned KTM and Triumph, both are fun but not a fair comparison.
Budsyremo, I hope you get one one day. I've been wanting one for 3 years. Finally got the money, but still haven't bought one yet because I still have yet to feel that I deserve to buy something I really wanted. Seems strange to some, but that's how I feel. It's a lot of money. Maybe you'll get one in the near future and post us some videos of yours in action. Stay positive my friend.
Im a sdr 1290 owner, my main problem with the duke is that from 2020 on they will produce de 790 ( and all the 790cc range bikes) in china, fucking china man, look it up, they made a pertnership with cfmoto named ktmr2r and it will produce 790 bikes uncluding the enduro, and probably a new 500cc range they are planning. Ktm lost me as a client, my next bike will be whoever produces and assembles in europe, provably a aprilia tuono
The 790 Duke was very close to the top of my list when I was looking for a new bike a few months back. I really wanted my next bike to have factory up- and down- quickshifter. I ended up getting the 2018 S1000R, but I think I'd have been just as happy with the 790 Duke. It seems like a great little bike.
I have a 2018 BMW S1000R and a 2019 790 Duke and there is no comparison between them. The S1000r is way more refined, way faster and the quick shifter is so much smoother. But the fun factor on the 790 is definitely there, and I like the riding position. The handling is amazing. It feels so light and nimble. The parallel twin is torquey. Just a totally different feel between the two, whereas I think the TSR RS would feel like a smaller and slower version of the S1000r. I didn't look at the TST before buying the 790 Duke but wish I would have. However, it would be better to wait for the 2020 TST RS to come out because it will come with a quick shifter and auto blipper.
The KTM 790 Duke will be my next bike. My first bike was the 390 Duke, i've also ridden the Street Triple R and although it was nice and refined and smooth and fast, I prefer the feel of a twin. KTMs have always been nimble and well balanced and that is my number 1 preference in a bike. I can't wait to test ride it.
How do you not mention that unlike the 1290 SuperDuke all the electronics come standard on the 790 including an IMU! Same electronic package as the 1290 without having to pay for it!
dows it have quickshift+, control over traction control and wheelie control, launch control as standard? i ask this because i have a sdr 2018 and boy was i pissed after i found i had to pay for track pack to have them.
MO should do another shootout MT 09 Vs Z900 Vs KTM 790 Vs Triump 796 Vs Duc 821 Vs Brutale 800. Our country (India ) it is gonna be significant difference than 1000$. so KTM will be launching about around 7L INR (10020 $) max mostly it will be in a sweet spot of 6 L where Street Triple R 675 old version (old one 2017-18) costing us here around 12L INR (18000.60 $ )approx have no idea for 765 version mostly higher than 675 I suppose So I guess without a doubt we can choose KTM instead of Street Triple 765
The street triple 675 costed 8 lakhs ex showroom. The street triple 765 has been launched in 2017 itself in two versions, S which starts at 8.5 lakhs and the RS at 10.55 lakhs. I guess you're lacking information.

Wow. That triumph is way faster power wise.... and the triple sounds awesome. But gotta say I think I’d still buy the KTM. Just something unique about it - and the handling is a winner for me.
I have a 790 Duke and a BMW S1000R. I find myself wanting to ride the 790 more. It's just so fun to ride - so easy to ride, feels really light and is so flickable. The is a reason KTM calls it "The Scalpel". And it has character with way it rides, looks and sounds. I didn't test ride the Triumph Street Triple RS, but I did sit on one and felt good. I just think with it's more linear power deliver, that it would be a slower version of the S1000R, minus a cylinder. I would need to ride the Triumph to make a fair comparison of the two. KTM is coming out with the 890 Duke R and that could put it really close to the Triumph as far as performance.
I bought my 790 in November and have owned a few different bikes (R6, Daytona 675R, 848 Evo) and the KTM is the most fun motorcycle of them all. Granted, my other bikes weren’t naked bikes but still the most fun.
I'm British and I've bought a 790 Duke over the triple. Both are amazing bikes. The reason I went for the Duke is because I see 10 triples per penny in my pocket and the Duke is far more fun on UK roads. Hardly see Dukes. Cool factor too 😎
pedro nogueira sorry mate thats nonsense, if you raced for money the RS is superior, ktm could not compete even though its fun, the triumph R has not got enough so bad comparison
@@pedronogueira8148 I agree with Simon, that’s nonsense. The 890R is the bike they made bc the 790 missed the mark. The 790 will be discontinued shortly.
I grew up riding a duel sport tw200. I was looking at getting a duke 390 but people are telling me i'd get board quickly. Do you think someone who has ridden off road and around town on a 200 for 10 years should spend the extra (by extra i mean double) $ for a 790?
hey Guys, now January 2023 and I've been itching to replace my very good motorcycle, a 21 stripple rs, with something livelier and more fun, I watch this video 2 or 3 times along with a couple other reviews and I went out and got one, a new 2023 790 - that just arrived at the dealer few days ago. Amazing handling, light, lively, fun feel. Just like you describe, thanks for excellent spot on and very helpful review..
It's cheaper to get the QS for the triumph than it is to get new suspension for KTM to get fully adjustable suspension, which to me makes a world of difference being able to adjust suspension to different riding styles
I ride both bikes. Last year I decided to skip heavy bikes and jump to the lighter section. I tested Kawasaki Z900, Yamaha MT09, MT10, MT07, XSR900, Speed Triple 765RS and KTM 790. I can only say: Triumph all the way. KTM is a good bike, but more like a prototype, overall fun but with some remarks: quality is not so good, it feels and looks cheap, gearbox is not so good, have some problem with shifting, also not very stable at high speeds (still it has a factory steering dumper!) and on slow revs also a bit whimsical. On the contrary - Triumph is a REAL bike, better to drive, better sounding, a way better build and real fun to drive. My other choice would be Kawasaki.
At least on paper, the 790 Duke is a close competitor to the Monster 821 also. The 821, unfortunately, isn't all day friendly. As an 821 owner, I'm really looking forward to riding the Duke.
I own a 2016 690 duke and have ridden a monster 821. I didnt like the ergonomics of the monster, my knees ran into the tank and its too crunched over. Power wise they felt similar (both topped out at about 200kph) but the fueling on the monster felt dull; it didnt punch hard like the duke does. The engine sounds amazing on the monster though...
Just a couple months after I bought my 765 RS i heard that the 790 duke was coming to europe and i second guesses my decision but after test riding the 790 for a full day at all types of roads and various speeds while my Triumph was serviced I realized I'd made the right decision. Sure the RS is more expensive but definetly worth it. Yes the 790 is punchy and nimble but I thought it felt sloppy and not at all like a "scalpel", poor brakes, quick shifter wasn't really that good. I honestly expected more and wished it would be as good or better than my Triumph. They should have made an R model of the 790 right away. If you want a good ktm just buy the 1290 or a SMC-R. No hate on KTM, they will definetly be my choice for my next bike
ruclips.net/video/KALHN6VoWHo/видео.html Look at the handlebars at acceleration in this video and you'll understand what I mean by "sloppy" and note it does have a steering stabilizer fitted as standard and still does this. This video points out that the 790 feels so light but it's not necessarily a good thing.
@@backstreamnorth I liked the triumph but it was a bit more forward leaning and a bit more like all my previous bikes so I went the KTM out of the blue, never even considered one til I rode it. I love how people dislike the looks, I've never bought a bike to look cool ha ha
@@thebasy2453 Yeah the triumph is a bit agressive in the riding position but I kinda solved it with a different bar riser from rizoma. But the best way to keep the pressure of your wrists is to go faster and let the wind carry your weight :) I really liked most of the 790 and if they come out with an R version with like Brembo m50s, better suspension, stronger stabilizer and an Akrapovic exhaust I will definetly buy it
Triumph STR might be heavier but its more refined and probably going to be more reliable than KTM. STR has proven itself over the years and is still the best all around naked performance bike in its class.
Exactly, they confuse the Triples stability with weight, and that KTM front wheel rake with agility. Wait till that front tire wobbles too much without a damper and then speak on weight.
My bike of choice has always been midsize nakeds. Years ago the choices were not what they are today and the Street Triple has been, IMO, the best all arounder. I love my Brutale, enjoyed riding the Monster 821, didn't care for the BMW F800R (not a fan of the parallel twin), but I owe it to myself to test ride this new 790 Duke.
As a 790 Duke owner, I'd also be curious to see a z900 vs. the Duke. After having ridden it for a few months, I doubt anything can be better. It's that good.
nothing is better in the class. there are some great bikes in the class, but the one bike to sit clearly on top is the 790. the rest are also rans. the street triple is a fantastic bike, but just not quite as good as the 790.
@@marktodd4479😂😂😂 what a Bullshit! KTM the Engine R.I.P. Number 1 in the world!!!😂😂 Bad quality! So much Plastik! And the Suspension of the 790 Is 🤮🤮🤮
I would love to hear what people mean by "fun". I rode the yamaha fz bikes that were supposed to be "fun" and they felt cheap and, quite frankly, unsafe. That's what the 'light, flickable' comments make me think of. I've ridden alot of naked bikes and sport touring bikes and I ended up buying a 2014 speed triple, because fun to me meant feeling like a boss in the corners because my bike is planted and inspires confidence, as well as being comfortable and sounding/looking cool. I always get compliments on it, ALWAYS. These KTMs, although good bikes I'm sure, look somewhat amateurish and cheap. I'm a little bias but I was not expecting the KTM to outdo the speed triple, and although I have not ridden the KTM, I doubt it has. It's probably just different and the street triple has been around forever, and they review a new one every year. The triumphs are a gift that keep on giving. You buy one and a couple of months later it has permeated into your soul and before you know it your in love because they are truly wonderful, dependable, quality bikes....true story:) (This message sponsored and approved by a Triumph owner)
I've never ridden this KTM 790, but I did test ride the larger Super Duke and I gotta say it was baffling how light it felt? I was on a Ducati SF at the time which was 40 lbs lighter and that KTM turned in so much easier.
I have 500 miles on my orange 2019 KTM Duke 790. I've been really happy with it. The auto-shifter is awesome, but takes a bit of getting used to. Love how it handles, love the suspension. The stock exhaust is way too quiet, but I fixed that. My biggest complaint, which wasn't mentioned in the video, is the big dip in power around 4500 RPM's. It is really noticeable.
You know, KTM has answered the question that so many people have when selecting which bike is right for me? There is a bike available for virtually every rider! With this new 790 Duke, they split the difference between an MT 07, and a GSX-S1000, or how bout an SV 650, and a Z900? My point being is that there are now so many offerings, and they are all good bikes, it simply comes down to what flavor, and how much?
Nice comparison! Surprised you didn't mention IMU-backed TC and ABS! For me that's a huge difference, and that's definitely the reason why the TC is smoother than the worse TC in the triumph. Also: what is that snazzy jumpsuit you're wearing!
You know that ktm looks cool. But I bought the 390 new at the beginning of the year and have had nothing but problems with it. It's a shame because it's a great bike. Between the two I think I'd take the triumph because I'm losing faith in ktm and particularly my ktm dealer.
What kind of problems? I've been driving 2018 390 Duke since March/2018, and had no problems whatsoever (knock on wood). Oh, one day I heard a strange noise, like a bolt is loose or something - realized I forgot to tight down an eBay, 2$ aluminium phone holder and it was rattling on the handlebar. I'm not moto freak, but for me and Duke 390 it was love at first sight (and sound). I even had no problems whatsoever with fan/heating which people say it's an issue for 390.
@@gavinrobinson4468 I think they did something around the fan for 2018, but still, overheating when it's cold outside?? It shouldn't be doing that. I've been stuck in traffic a lot in summer, 40 °C (104°F), sure the fan kicks in and stops, but never overheated. Service center got a look at it?
@@MrFoxThree Yes I took it in, and when it does overheat the check engine light comes on. I didn't mention that. But they were unhelpful at best. Everything was fine for a bit and then it did it again. So now I'm not quite sure what to do with it.
The KTM a decent freeway bike, though. __ On I -5 I was with flow of traffic and discovered I had 2 more gears left. ___ Seriously, at 65 to 70 mph, 4th is pretty decent. __5th and 6th are almost like having overdrive and sustained 80 to 90 mph is still pretty smooth. __Not buzzy like some might have thought for a 790 Vertical Twin.
ABS and traction control is for pussies.....and looks like something from the pound shop, whereas the triumph looks a beast, is a beast, and looks so much better around town, in fact....It's a head turner and sounds fooking sweet as!
@@triumphstreettripler6759 lol, the argument when an argument is lost....oh, don't need that anyway, just for pussies. ktm all day long and all night too.
Both great bikes. Appears to me that the KTM is more of a 'disposable' bike and the Triumph is more of a 'in it for the long haul' type of bike with regards to reliability and owner experience. Save a few dollars until you can splurge on the RS...it has all the goodies.
I think my favorite shootouts always involve two bikes. Nicely done! I understand the pricing issue made you choose the r vs the rs triple, but really, the KTM should have been compared to the RS. Pricing should not have been an exclusion factor here. Many would argue that the R and RS are aimed at somewhat different crowds and the KTM fits the RS crowd better. With the RS, your conclusion would have been different, and the issue would have been whether the better bike was worth the extra dollars.
As a Husky 701 SM owner, I'd take the Street Triple R any day. Save up a few more pennies for the RS and you get the really good stuff. I wanted to love the 790 but I don't. Feels like a sponsored KTM review.
@@imbackinthegame3611 The 701 Supermoto is a perfect bike in many ways. It gives you a strong appreciation of what supermoto bikes are like without race (that is, replace your piston every 40 hours and do oil changes after every ride) bike maintenance. It's 350lbs curb weight which is vastly lighter than the 420lb curb weight of the Triumph RS. Every time you go into a corner that lack of weight is amazing. Sure, that's 100lbs heavier than a Husky FS450 race bike but it also has a 110 mile range and 0-60 in the 3.6sec range and a top speed of over 115mph and it can do that all day long without exploding and it's also street legal. I don't need to go faster than 100mph and it gets me there very quickly. All my fun is had from 20mph to 100mph. I've had big liter bikes that sizzle by 160mph with no problems but on the street I can't use that at all and I don't really want to lug around a big boat that's engineered to put 170HP to the ground. I'd rather put that into weight savings with less power. For my uses canyon carving and mountain goat road ripping it's an ideal machine. Would I want to go from LA to NYC on it? No. It's really all about the use case. Still, it does well at the track: watch?v=D51IrGCPIXc
@exnihilo415 sounds a lot like my 390 Duke. Very flickable and lightweight good for the twistys. Yeah i know what u mean occasionally i go 152mph on my RS the Autobahn but top speed is not as much fun as the Mountain roads
@@imbackinthegame3611 You should try to get a test ride on a 701 Supermoto. It's essentially the same weight as the RC390 only with double the power. Friend of mine has an RC390. I quite like it on the mountain roads too. That small chassis is great fun. Cheers!
@@exnihilo415 Having owned both the Duke 690 and 790, I think the 790 is a nice upgrade. The 790 doesn't have the snotty torque at low RPM's, but the suspension, auto-shifter, and electronics are great. And to be frank, the 690 tranny was horrible. It was the biggest reason I upgraded. The 790 tranny is silky smooth. Can't comment on the Triple. But I think it is fugly IMO.

Power is actually pretty good already for a 799 twin. They could increase it, but say goodbye to fat middle torque. The 765R has better power and torque below peak than the RS.
790 Duke anyday.. Lightweightedness of the Duke definitely played its side man. Even we compare it with the Z900, like many asked, it's the same case again. Z900 is heavy and has none of the modes that Duke got. Triumph will definitely get the heat from the KTM
TechHearted Bro z900 is also like 7g out the door right now. Nothing wrong with the duke or the triumph but it’s hard to beat the z900 for the price. From every review I’ve seen the z900 is very good and smooth without the modes. I will have one
So even with better suspension, better brakes, better comfort, more power, better tyres, a bigger fuel tank, the KTM is better? For one thing, traction control has 4 settings on the STR, off/rain/road/sport - not on/off as stated as well as some weird statements about the max horse power on the STR being passed the redline on the KTM (wow a 2 cylinder having lower rpm than a triple?!), this review had some really bad repetition and really sounded like the only discernible benefits of the newer KTM were its lightness and a quick shift. Heck we know that they are both good bikes and it comes down to personal preference which one you would buy, but there was an obvious bias in this review. Buy a quick shifter for the STR and it seems like its the superior bike then!
Well there's more to a motorcycle than the individual components. Engine placement, CG, frame geometry, etc. Like it was mentioned in the video, some things are hard to explain and you cant go off the paper specs all the time. It was obvious there was some sort of "X" factor here is why they decided on the KTM.
I bought the ktm last month my first big bike and love it. I think the mirrors are crap I just see my elbows they're the same as on 125 and 390 and also maintaining 30mph in a speed limit area its a bit lumpy. But as I don't do that too often who cares the pops and bangs from the standard exhaust always make me smile and the tank range is 180 miles till empty that's not bad at all. I hope this new riders opinion helps some people
I owned Duke 390 and Street Triple 675. My friends have 390, 790 adv, Street Triple 765rs, Trident 660, Tiger 660. I drove them. Yes KTM bikes are affordable, powerful and driving costs are lower than Triumph's but I can clearly say that Triumph's build quality are better than KTM's. Especially on engine side. I also think Street Triple so much smoother on the road because of wide gear band and 3 piston.
Triumph gives so much more fun and quality in the long run. Build quality, style and also a beautiful feel and sound. Ktm is like a kids toy... or when you live in a mountain area its quick and fun. Triumph any time!

Good review, MOrons. As an owner of a '13 STR I can definitely see how they'd find that the 765 feels more lethargic than the 790; as great an all-arounder and sporty ride my bike is, it doesn't do "playful" quite as well as I had expected to. It can be helped by changing tires, but it feels more "serious" to me than, say, an MT-09. It's almost the difference between James Bond and Eggsy Unwin
@@TroySiahaan Yes, dropped a tooth in front and that made a difference. Didn't change the rear bc I don't want it revving too much on my commute. I do love riding the bike, and I like that it can fit whatever mood I'm in. I just wouldn't call it playful.
Ive watched a few of your reviews and everytime you favour the KTM ,dont get me wrong the KTM is a great bike but not up against the Mighty Triumph Street Triple .. more power , better sound , better built .. look at past comments to see what people really think ...
Great video. I’ll pay the extra for the Street Triple and am going to take it up a notch with the RS - will have one next week! 🙂. We now finally have a KTM dealer here where I live so I’ve had a chance to see their line up close up.... great bikes, I’m sure - but I just can’t get over those funky headlights! 👀
I decided I wanted a naked middleweight last summer and narrowed it down to the MT(FZ)-09, Triumph Street Triple R and the KTM 790, I really liked all 3 bikes and found the KTM the best fun with amazing power for an 800cc parallel twin but the looks to me were a complete turn off ,plus the finish of the bodywork left a lot to be desired, I eventually opted for the Street Triple R and I'm glad I did as it was the highest quality of the 3 bikes.
I traded my 2014 ktm duke 690 in for a street triple rs. I always said if the duke had another cylinder it would be amazing. Would still like to ride the 790. Hopefully ktm fixed the plastic gas tank issue.
once you try ktm is hard to switch to another bike, the torque it has, is addictive!! Great test guys, bravo!
I’ve had the 790 since July. I love it, never gets boring. After coming from a MT07 its night and day.
Hiw was the reliability?
Rode a new Street Triple R yesterday after getting off my S1000XR, and oh man, what a sweet package.
The Triumph will undoubtedly be more refined and reliable. KTM's are always rough around the edges or sometimes have major issues.

@@ricardorodrigues3508 but isnt that just for the Chinese market and not for export?
Yes but the RS
The 790 Duke was very close to the top of my list when I was looking for a new bike a few months back. I really wanted my next bike to have factory up- and down- quickshifter. I ended up getting the 2018 S1000R, but I think I'd have been just as happy with the 790 Duke. It seems like a great little bike.
The S1000R is a great bike. I will buy the new model which will be presented at the EICMA this year (all features from the 2019's S1000RR).
I can't wait to test ride it.
same here..I called the dealer and put down an order..there hard to get!
How do you not mention that unlike the 1290 SuperDuke all the electronics come standard on the 790 including an IMU! Same electronic package as the 1290 without having to pay for it!

Good to you and Tom doing reviews again, Troy. You two gel very well together. As for the bikes, well KTM. Nuff said.

After thinking about this some more, the Hypermotard wouldn't be a bad match up either. Again, not as all day friendly as the Duke.
No hate on KTM, they will definetly be my choice for my next bike
ruclips.net/video/KALHN6VoWHo/видео.html
Look at the handlebars at acceleration in this video and you'll understand what I mean by "sloppy" and note it does have a steering stabilizer fitted as standard and still does this. This video points out that the 790 feels so light but it's not necessarily a good thing.
It's ok, I've never seen anyone NOT justify their decision. They're different bikes. If you have a sore back the KTM forces good posture

Triumph STR might be heavier but its more refined and probably going to be more reliable than KTM. STR has proven itself over the years and is still the best all around naked performance bike in its class.
As a street triple R owner, it is an incredible bike. However, I am going to wait for the 790R version. We know its coming, can’t wait to try it.
The Triumph is more stable. And the KTM is more easy turning. Thats why the Triumph feel heavy.
Exactly, they confuse the Triples stability with weight, and that KTM front wheel rake with agility. Wait till that front tire wobbles too much without a damper and then speak on weight.
The KTM has a longer wheelbase and is also extremely stable...
My bike of choice has always been midsize nakeds. Years ago the choices were not what they are today and the Street Triple has been, IMO, the best all arounder. You buy one and a couple of months later it has permeated into your soul and before you know it your in love because they are truly wonderful, dependable, quality bikes....true story:)

Ktm handle feels so freking great that nothing beats it.
The dip is because you probably added a free flow exhaust which makes it lean. If this is the case then you need to add piggyback ECU.

I bought d250 n it is my biggest mistake

Both great bikes, but it’s definitely the Triumph for me! 👍

What r ur thoughts on ur 701 ?
@@exnihilo415 Having owned both the Duke 690 and 790, I think the 790 is a nice upgrade. That one. Would make my Super Duke 1290 nervous....
Power is actually pretty good already for a 799 twin. They could increase it, but say goodbye to fat middle torque. The 765R has better power and torque below peak than the RS.
Should have added the 821 monster 2018 to this test as well!
Add the BMW F800R too.

No comparison to the Triumph and KTM which are much more desirable bikes, both in performance as well as character.
TechHearted Bro also I ride a Harley night rod right now so the z900 felt extremely light to me lol

But as I don't do that too often who cares the pops and bangs from the standard exhaust always make me smile and the tank range is 180 miles till empty that's not bad at all. I hope this new riders opinion helps some people
Fun factor and weight..KTM rules...no comparison..handling as well.

Revisiting this video, after KTM dropped the news about the Duke 890R. Things are going to get even more competitive in this segment.
I like it KTM 790 enough power in a middle way super awesome
Triumph gives so much more fun and quality in the long run. Build quality, style and also a beautiful feel and sound. Ktm is like a kids toy... or when you live in a mountain area its quick and fun. Triumph any time!

@@cuzimaluzer777 lol yanks and their KTM meme. Maybe you deserve what you get
What is the difference between the 2018 Duke 790 to 2019?
the two bikes are great !! but Triumph in every case ! Triumph forever !!!
is Ktm 790 a good bike to buy now in 2023? I am getting a 2020 model.. done only 1800 miles
Triple over a twin every time
In our country the spares for both KTM and Triumph are cheaper than Z900 and MT 09
What about build quality and reliability?
I really want to buy the KTM 790 but I just don't trust KTM when it comes to reliability. It looks like a really fun bike!!
@@Reapers261 Too early to tell. So far it's taking abuse really well just like the 1290. Besides, it's a machine. It might have trouble. No sense a niggle here or there keeping people out of an otherwise awesome and unique machine.
@@exothermal.sprocket the 390 had large issues when it came out, and this is the first parallel twin they've produced. So I'm a definitely wait and see guy
@@Reapers261 Why not? All we really have to go off of is the consumer reports, where triumph didn't do too hot (relative to even American manufacturers). KTM wasn't listed. Anecdotally I did a ton of research on the LC8 when I bought my 1290, and I couldn't find too many problems beyond the initial batch of 1290 dukes in 2014/2015. I think it's a wash as far as that comparison goes.
@@pnwgreg300 390 isn't manufactured in the same country as the bigger guys. Similar things are done with other brands like Honda and BMW in the 300cc range. Cheap cheap cheap. No indication of the bigger expensive bikes.
KTM owns the dirt bike category now moving to street bikes!
I own a Versys 650. It's the first and last twin I'll own. I want something that sounds good, too. Here I come Triumph.
I own a 2012 Triumph... and have considered buying a Versys. My Triumph is a speeding ticket waiting to happen.
I test rode the Versys and now own a 790. The engines are different as night & day...
The Versys engine is v. agricultural feeling compared to the 790's, maybe give it a try!
I bought a 2020 Duke 890r in April of 2020. Bought it without seeing the bike in person. Loved it, but, I’ve lost the bike riding feeling now for over a year now😢
I´ll ride the triumph this year and switch to the KTM next year when the R-version comes. =)
R-version?..hummm?
Bravo KTM you did it again... Now I'm gonna wait on the long term review to see what are the major problems (if any).
I don't know if we're going to do a followup video, but we will be writing one soon on motorcycle.com. So far, not a single problem with the bike.
Both great. You can also get the quickshifter in the Street Triple R if you so desire.
I'm sure a gearing change would do wonders in making the STR feel more lively for everyday street riding.
@@TroySiahaan Yes, dropped a tooth in front and that made a difference. Didn't change the rear bc I don't want it revving too much on my commute. I do love riding the bike, and I like that it can fit whatever mood I'm in. I just wouldn't call it playful.
Need a street triple rs vs 890 duke R comparison
Ive watched a few of your reviews and everytime you favour the KTM ,dont get me wrong the KTM is a great bike but not up against the Mighty Triumph Street Triple .. more power , better sound , better built .. look at past comments to see what people really think ...
Less fun on the road
@@lukaszg74 fun is a subjective factor...not objective.
Good old motorcycle press strikes again.
The 765 went from being a fantastic bike to being just 'a good motorcycle' in one year.
Utter horse shit.
Of course they were at pains to say just the opposite of your statement - but hey whatevah.
@@anxiousappliance no they weren't - one of their last lines was literally "the 765 is a good motorcycle".
Duke 790 more hooligan🤙🔥Street triple more soft and easy too drive✊
I decided I wanted a naked middleweight last summer and narrowed it down to the MT(FZ)-09, Triumph Street Triple R and the KTM 790, I really liked all 3 bikes and found the KTM the best fun with amazing power for an 800cc parallel twin but the looks to me were a complete turn off ,plus the finish of the bodywork left a lot to be desired, I eventually opted for the Street Triple R and I'm glad I did as it was the highest quality of the 3 bikes.
I am considering buying the 790 Duke or the MT 09, both bikes seem really cool, I'm not sure what to go for.
How about maintenance cost between the two... Which is costlier that way ?
KTM has CORNERING ABS!! Huge advantage you guys NEVER mentioned.
a question for everyone here: would you choose a 2017 kawasaki z1000sx or a ktm 790 duke? thanks for your help.
Troy would have an MT10 or the Duke790?
Great review but you guys should really consider making an audio upgrade
Why you don't make video in 4K anymore?
I traded my 2014 ktm duke 690 in for a street triple rs. I always said if the duke had another cylinder it would be amazing. Would still like to ride the 790. Hopefully ktm fixed the plastic gas tank issue.
