All due respect to the lighting, exposure and such but the food styling is the true magic of food photography. Truly an art and amazing to watch someone who is good at it.

And suddenly I find a video of you on youtube. And so increased my interest in food photography. With each video more and more knowledge. And if that wasn't enough, you generously introduce us to brilliant people who, like you, share your knowledge. It was like that with Suzy Eaton, Donna Crous, Lauren ...
I am from Brazil and here things are absurdly rolled up, devalued and selfishly hidden. So someone like you is an incredible find. Thank you for your generosity girl. A lot of health and long life. Thanks again

Great tips. As I’m starting out in photography. I was asked to collaborate with a local clothing boutique. I shot two (2) fashion shows, put on by the boutique. An anniversary celebration and a photo session of clothing modeled for their webpage. Everything was going well until I was being requested through the boutique. The boutique was demanding 40% booking fee from me. Mind you we were both starting our new venture separately. Not make this any longer. I didn’t get any of those leads, I took a break from shooting photos or making videos for about 10-11 months. Until a couple of weeks where I started a series called “ NO NICHE JUST PHOTOGRAPHY “

    Excellent.
I like how Suzy commented on working with the Chef's and making them feel part of the production, many Chefs at the higher level create art with their food and many take great pride in it.
As a former Culinary Student myself I can appreciate working with food be it as a chef, food stylist or food photographer they all know food does not like to cooperate or give you the time you need it makes you go by its schedule.
FYI I say former Culinary Student, I enjoyed the classes and learning the techniques, I got good grades but my heart kept telling it was not my
    calling.
Still love the whole food making process even if is it just making a nice salad or a pizza.
    Thanks for the video.

@@TheBiteShot Maybe what's throwing me off is all the black. I'm used to you wearing more colorful tops, as well as your earlier studio (more natural light?). I have to admit, no matter how amazing my food is, or how great my photography skills develop--what's going to make the difference between the photos being great versus stop you in your tracks spectacular is having a talented food stylist. Thanks again for sharing.

Joanie, I normally really love your videos...but too bad the whole video is about cutting and solving problems with dead animals...specially with that first picture of the poor bird killed. As a vegan, I always pass by some contents that you share about meat (because you are not vegan so of course you don't have to only post vegan things) but even then I can always identify and skipe them easily. But this time it was too sad that I came here expecting something with tips and help on how to become a better food stylist, but it turned out to be more than half of the video only about stories of dead animals :/ please think about it next time. Thank you very much, and sorry if it sounds rude to say this, because english is not my first language. Anyways, I really admire you as a person and professional, and I hopr you bring more good work here for us! Thank you so much!

In fairness to Joanie and her guest, this is not a vegan or vegetarian food channel. By choosing to watch her videos you accept the risk of seeing food images that don't align with your vegan principles. I'm a vegetarian so I don't say this to offend you. We have to accept responsibility for what we choose to watch, especially if the content producer is transparent about the type of content they offer.
