Yeah bro start from the oem configuration and actually build up small upgrades at a time depending on what you need it for, you’ll find you’ll just have more fun in general
In A class and below I think its best to use rally tire compound for road racing since most of the time its better than your stock tires and takes waaay less PI than semi slicks or slicks, they actually give pretty good grip no matter what surface you're on and if you dip a tire into the grass or dirt you'll still get close to the same acceleration as if you hadn't which really helps on corner exits if you get pushed wide or you're just trying to use all of the track, also pretty essential for when you're racing in the city that has stone or tile or whatever it is if you don't have a good tire on you will have awful pace around there most likely. Also really good for just quality of life it will give cars that had no grip off road a lot more grip so you can actually take dirt trails now without having totally worthless pace. Extremely versatile tire I think its very underrated right now.
Yea I’m extraordinarily happy to see new differentials, off-road tires, and even different sounds for select engine parts. Makes the feelings very realistic and a lot of them help you tune the car easier which saves hours of our time just for the basics. Also the exhaust is a very cool feature they’ve added!! Going to definitely not use the best one anymore on cars that I don’t care about the performance on or just want the better sound.

With AWD if you increase the rear tire width and add the forza rear wing then you drop PI with every vehicle and very useful for squeezing extra hp into your build
Flywheel and prop shaft are both drift upgrades, the reduce inertia/resistance between engine and wheels so your revs build faster making it easier to break traction. For that reason it's almost always better not to have them on a track build RWD as they will make the car more prone to wheel spinning out of corners. If you do this build and find your car hard to drive I'd start by removing these so you have more linear power progression.
This video is great but there are a couple of things that are different abiut upgrading in this game in my opinion: 1- front tire widht is almost never worth it, go for more power instead, 2- intercooler and cooling are some of the worst power upgrades, 3-awd swapping is still the way to go in the majority of non-powerbuild cars, 4-dont use rally tires for rally racing, use offroad. Rally tires are used mostly for road racing. 5-bodykits are almost always worth it. 6-the best aspiration upgrade is the centrifugal turbo, 7- engine swapping is meta if you can, certain engines build more power for the same PI cost (for example the racing v12 is one of the most efficient engines). Also going for more power instead of less weight is usually the way to go if your car isn't too heavy from the start.

I may have my own ideas and preferences here and there, like I recently went for more handling and less straight line speed than I did before because I feel like it does better overall...but I also exclusively play random online races, avoiding rally stages (yeah, they didn't make the recent AddOn for me^^) other players may have a totally different experience. Oh I don't tune AT ALL, if I'm not fine with the top speed I'll fit another gearbox, add power, drop aero or pick another car. No suspension fiddling, brake distribution, none of that. I'm a simple man
Too bad, tuning can really make your car faster. Also respect people that can't really upgrade or tune. Don't say that you are doing more than them. This video is aimed towards new players and whilst it is not totally accurate it really is informative and well made.

Thanks! Funny that you don't even mention the stat numbers 1 - 10 like speed, handling etc. I guess they don't matter as much as I thought. I always built with those as a guideline. If a car handles like crap I try to get handling up while not compromising too much on speed. But I never really knew what I was doing, so this is a big help. I shouldve watched this before your tuning guide. I've been tuning crap upgrades :D
I love, clean tarmac racing, classic, rétro cars and exotics, so I love to keep my cars clean. Therefore I mostly just upgrade the tire compound, to keep the driving experience as close to the real life counterpart as possible. Forza went trough a lot of work of making these cars handle realistically, and I want to take full advantage of that.
Your content has hugely improved my enjoyment of this game. So first of thanks so much. Question on this - maybe it's my cover of cars, but usually find I'm upgrading at least one or two classes (I'm really enjoying A class, S1 class rivals teaching). It's often difficult to do this without either adding power AND reducing weight, or changing engines etc. Can't seem to increase classes using the basics of this guide. Any thoughts? Engines first? Just max everything?
I mostly agree with you. i'm a hot lap hero and love tuning cars just to try and reach top 100 in every rivals event. I have 2 already in FH5 that are firmly planted among the cheated times so they're not going anywhere any time soon. but I really do not agree with you on the cam upgrade. it is the second engine upgrade I put on my cars after exhaust. it increases rev range which massively increases wheel torque cause you can run lower gears everywhere. it also gives you a bigger window on turbo cars which makes them way easier to drive fast. it however doesn't increase top speed as much as some other engine upgrades. I also always try to avoid intercooler and oil cooler. I don't think they are worth while because they add weight which make you slower everywhere but at the end of the longest straights. having some other engine upgrade instead improve lap times more than you would think in every race where out right top speed isn't a factor.
I haven't played in awhile but doesn't the damage simulation option simulate overheating if you run your car to hard hence making oil and intercooler upgrades more of a priority?
@@trippybruh1592 I'm not shure that it makes a difference when driving with simulation damage on but pretty much nobody does that anyways and if you play like me with only abs active, manual with clutch and no damage can't you get any damage from overheating. but I might try this tomorrow cause you got me interested
one thing i like to do is use the upgrades said and the tune they have for the vehicle and compare the lap times as most of the time the tunes made by people i tend to see that they are slower than just upgrades no tuning
As much as the online brackets are about getting the number as high as you can without going over, there's something fun about taking a crappy looking piece of %#*^ car and making it as absurdly fast and hoonable as possible. 🙂 Tune It And Hoon It!!! 🙂
I find the clutch upgrade helps when you release the clutch on the Man+clutch setting, I try to hit the upshift and clutch at the same time and I find my car pings the limiter more often with the stock clutch, it's a shame the race gearbox doesn't give you a dog ring and strain guage option
You know, I find it funny that Playground Games were bragging about the level of freedom in customization in Forza Horizon 5. Bruh, these are the most restrictive upgrades probably in the entire Forza series. It's like HokiHoshi said, upgrade too far past the original performance class, and the car is virtually impossible to drive, let alone race. In FH4, I upgraded the Hudson Hornet from the D-class to the top of the S1-class, and it's one of the best cars I've ever built. Upgrading *any* car into even the *next* performance class is like trying to figure out a combination lock in this game.
The AI in it's current state is broken. Launching sooner than you, making a 90 degree turn like on rails without any wheelspin in a RWD car in wet weather, accelerating too quickly. I was the lowest PI in a race quite a few times with the top one having over 20 PI more than me which is just dumb.
This is the first Forza I feel compelled to convert to AWD, because the new gearboxes let me preserve the gears. Yet I find myself downgrading RWD cars from 8 to 6 gears because they don't need that many, lol.
Your videos have been very informative. They have unveiled and given me an appreciation for much of the depth that this game has to offer. There is something that I do not understand, however. I dominate when I use the mission provided car "#4 Ford focus rs A [749] Rare" for baja races but struggle when I use my newly purchased "Baja bone shaker B [700] legendary. My assumption was that since the bone shaker is best in class for B series, and legendary, that it would perform better. What could be the reason for my poor performance with it?
The bots match your class for single player racing so it doesn't really matter. The baja bone shaker drives terribly in my opinion and also a car's rarity has no effect on how good it is in a class
Just amazing, you truly understand the game mechanics thoroughly and I learnt a lot of thing from this and several other video of yours. One genuine question: Is it worth spending time upgrading and tuning cars in Forza Horizon isnt the game arcade-ish ? or is it only viable option for Forza motorsport only ?
It's absolutely worth tuning, especially at the higher end of performance. A proper setup can completely change the way the car handles. Again it's not a huge deal if you're racing low difficulty AI, but harder AI or players will stomp you without a good build. You can always download a tuning setup and use that as a base to start tweaking
Yes you can download anything, but for one you can’t make adjustments to the fine tuning which is why I recommend you learn how to do the upgrading and tuning. I honestly find this stupid, because it’s not like the Forza devs can’t add a feature to make it so that you can’t share the tune as “yours” unless you’ve made several tweaks to it like the handling/speed. For 2, it doesn’t teach you anything but to continue being lazy all the time. Knowing this, all you get off downloading one is just to see what kind of parts the player put on it assuming you downloaded a good one and kept it stock (otherwise you won’t know which parts are the best if you downloaded a bad tune). After that, you need to learn how to make a solid base/fine tune for the car so that it’s manageable. Personally, I think it’s best just to learn this all from scratch and make as many tunes possible so that over time, everything will get significantly easier and faster to create. The more practice, the better as long as you know what you’re doing. A huge tip I have for you would have to be trying to not massively upgrade every single car you get unless it’s absolutely needed/the car feels underpowered at the top of its class. I see countless numbers of people doing this and I’ve fallen victim to it as well, but don’t do it nearly as much anymore thankfully!!
I joined a championship yesterday that was supposed to be class A but for some reason I never got to chose my car so it kept me in my S2 class car. I finished like 30 seconds ahead od everyone
What about street racing or just street car style builds since you didn’t go much into specifically street? Would you just do a light race style build or what?
Like HokiHoshi said most people go for power builds (cause most races have big straights and wide turns) yet if you find your self on some tight and bendy racetrack like those in the city you are better off with light grippy builds.
Great video very well detailed...I wanted to ask some cars have side skirt upgrade and those upgrades change some of the stats and also says -1% drag is that good is it worth getting does it make significant enough change ?
This game really lacks some quality of life upgrades in the car upgrade UI. How come you can't filter/order rims by weight? Why do you have to individually select each menu in the Engine department to know how much it's upgraded? Just place a few dots/circles in the upgrade icon so we don't have to check one by one when we want to change something. Sometimes you have to wonder how much the devs actually playtest some of this stuff.
I really hope that they've fixed the sequntial gear cars. It was really annoying groing from manual with clutch to a sequantial car. I had to to tweak the game difficulty to semi-automatic...
Do the different Differential upgrades do anything besides unlocking diff tuning and setting where the tune defaults are? Same-ish question with the Suspension upgrades?
The A.I in this game really challenge you to have good racing lines and pushing your car to the limit and I love it

@@ZaZ880 all true. I see that whenever someone beats me in the same car that I use ^^
I wasn't trying to judge, just explaining a different approach for people who don't know or don't want all that mechanics stuff and how that also works without all extra effort. If you're like me and know a superficial bit about cars but can't be asked to fiddle with brake distribution, gear ratios and tyre pressure, you might want to find a next car that does the job before you go into stuff you don't really understand because someone on RUclips told you how. It works, sure. To me, though, that feels like YOU didn't get it done, you looked it up.
I see people making all sorts of bs work in FH5 and I respect them all, I just don't want any virtual oily fingers and until now, never had to pack it up over it.
Sorry if it felt critical or condescending, the last thing i want is anyone to think I feel BETTER for not knowing stuff ^^
@@YeeSoest no worries man, i might have just read that the wrong way. I really like to tune but in this game some stuff is really backwards, i get what you are saying
Building fast cars is easy. Building fast cars that you can control, now *that* is a challenge.
Thank you for your informative videos. Your tuning guide in general was extremely helpful. You earned that like and subscribe from me.
This is the youtube channel i need :D Thank you!
Great video Hoki, learned alot
HokiHoshi, the Sensei of fast car builders! I like it a lot! :-)
Thanks for the hints & tips!
How about valve upgrade?
one thing i like to do is use the upgrades said and the tune they have for the vehicle and compare the lap times as most of the time the tunes made by people i tend to see that they are slower than just upgrades no tuning
The advertisement at the beginning calls the guy "James" but that's my name
Rant: i hate builds with more than 6 gears. wtf do you achieve with that aside from spending half your life changing gears and losing momentum?
As much as the online brackets are about getting the number as high as you can without going over, there's something fun about taking a crappy looking piece of %#*^ car and making it as absurdly fast and hoonable as possible. 🙂 Tune It And Hoon It!!! 🙂
Thanks, my Sentra nismo can go speedy boy now
Man
You are the Best 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great vid. Nice job explaining.
I do feel like I end up with AWD on every single car I use and tune.. IDK for me it just feels better
Unbeatable, this time around it actually does what it says on the tin 🤣
Thanks for the tips!
Again, amazing video!
Very helpful video. Thanks 👍🏻
I find the clutch upgrade helps when you release the clutch on the Man+clutch setting, I try to hit the upshift and clutch at the same time and I find my car pings the limiter more often with the stock clutch, it's a shame the race gearbox doesn't give you a dog ring and strain guage option
I wish GTA did a collab with Forza lol. Fr tho. Love the customization
I rly enjoing your content and waiting for more guides :)
thank you for usefull tips 😍😍
Thanks for all your help bro I'm trash but I'm getting better lol
Must just be you
@@chrispy9913 Reading posts on Reddit says otherwise lol.
Im going to guess that the slicks will be worth it for the online staged street drags ;)
Yes but you can win on race tires as well depends on the build

Really liking A class feels much more street car / daily driver you know?
A is my favourite too. It’s rewarding to put lower class cars into A, because it improves them dramatically without being too much.

I slapped on a 6.2L V8 in an E46 M3. It drives literally like a hypercar now. Lol. 😂
i find that a lot of the best tunes for fast track cars use off-road tyres
from my little time drifting in horizon 5 i feel like the drift tires are just not grippy enough
That just means your not wappaapapp enough
I upgrade the transmission to the 7-speed to get the quicker shift time; otherwise, I'd get the 6-speed.
is it bad to have large pi numbers
"In multiplayer, we have to build around the class system." No communism allowed in Forza Horizon.
What about piston upgrades? Is it worth upgrading?
Its better for example to upgrade a car to max c class that is already close to it or upgrading another c class?
So your saying if my car in game is light it could go through corners more better than a heavier car since its harder to turn?
One thing that bugs me is you can't put on a better looking exhaust.. all are kept stock even with engine mods
Wow, so maxing out everything and putting unnecessary anti lag on every car wasn’t the best idea, got it 😭
Can I use this format on most cars as long as I stay within the cars original pi
I find a lot of cars moved down in PI, as in they are less PI in 5 then 4 for the same build
when u came back to body kit, all wheel upgrades fade away, and u didnt put again, its that right?
What's the difference between sport and race?
What do yall think is the best A class car for road racing, ive been using the new Supra with my own tune and its really good I think
I really hope that they've fixed the sequntial gear cars. It was really annoying groing from manual with clutch to a sequantial car. I had to to tweak the game difficulty to semi-automatic...
5:05
Me with my LS swapped RWD R32: Uh...
Do the different Differential upgrades do anything besides unlocking diff tuning and setting where the tune defaults are? Same-ish question with the Suspension upgrades?
So should I upgrade front tire width right off the bat or should I only upgrade it when I'm getting understeer?
"Im a weight reduction kind of guy" i get that but im definitely the "i try to drive organic" guy
Is there a list anywhere of what class is best suited for each car? I feel like I've over upgraded some of my cars and their too powerful now
I wish there was a list like that. A close answer on what you ask is at 2:22 - 2:51
