- On this episode of Adventures of a First-Time Backpacker, I venture out to the Two Lakes Trail in Hoosier National Forest in Indiana, USA, with my friend and experienced backpacker Katie. The Two Lakes Trail is a 16-mile trail on Lake Celina and Indiana Lake near Tell City, Indiana. This is a great beginner trail and I can't wait to go back in the springtime.
Here are the details on the Two Lakes Trail:

Watching this video is making me want to go back and do this trail again! Great video!
Thanks. Awesome! I can’t wait to get back out there.
What a beautiful trail - just a gorgeous fall hike. Greetings from Rapid City SD and the beautiful Black Hills !
Hi there. It’s an awesome trail!
Great video. Yes, the trail is a full 16 miles long, which I'm sure after your first day of over 11 miles hiking you were feeling those last three miles. Note: I'm going back to using my MSR pump filter after both my sawyer squeeze and my buddy's sawyer squeeze failed on the same trip. Turns out after cleaning them and not using them for a couple of weeks, they clog themselves. They can be re-opened by soaking them in 140 degree water for about an hour. But, who knew that before they failed.
Thanks. Yeah I’ve been thinking about switching out my Sawyer too. Any filter can fail but Sawyers seem to do it more. That’s why iodine is so important as a backup, I have found. Hate the taste but good in a pinch.
Great hike !
Fantastic hike. Can’t wait to go back.
We have a lot of good places to backpack in southern Arizona but it's difficult to find backpackers in my small town. Most of the creeks are seasonal but Arizona isn't all desert, we have forests.
Nice place to hike, thanks for sharing your hike 👍🙂
Thanks, Thomas! I’m enjoying your Florida bike tour. Gotta catch up on episodes.
Howdy from Meade county. Great video
Hi there! Thanks. Meade County, that’s Tipton right? I grew up in Delaware County.
Just came across your video like you had fun
Good job ! And I love that you’re documenting your beginning. Will definitely watch to see your progress! Thanks for sharing. That’s a great place to hike.
Thanks Michael. I’m enjoying it so much. Can’t wait for my next trip this spring. Any pointers for a newbie?
@@DeniseLookingOut try to figure out what it Really is that you enjoy about backpacking. I love sitting around a campfire when I’m family camping. I don’t even want to bother w a fire on trail. I love campfire food when family camping, but when on trail-I don’t want to do anything more than boil water and add it to a bag. Once you know why you’re there, it’s easier to know what you need to take w you.
@@michaelpetersonbackpacking6077 great advice! I like the calm and quiet the best so far, being away from other people and the noise. Everything is getting to those places, I think.
Indian-Celina is now on my backpacking list for the family. I'm introducing them to backpacking at Mounds SP this summer so this will be a good year 2 hike for the kids! Thanks for sharing your journey there!!!
Thank you for your videos. I too am a fellow 43 year old Hoosier. I live in Northern Indiana. I love to bike on the Pumpkin Vine and Nickel Plate trails. If you ever want to join up and take a long ride or a backpack trip let me know. Cheers for warm spring days🎉🌞
Oh that’s awesome! I definitely want to ride those trails! I’ll reach out when I’m planning another Hoosier adventure. You can also PM me at Denise Looking Out on Instagram. Cheers!
@@DeniseLookingOut I don’t have Instagram but am on Facebook, Grace Pedraza🎉
I recommend an MSR Sweetwater filtration system. It comes with a screen for the end of the hose. Plus I bought the inline pre-filter to help with removing silt or other organic material, it helps with making the main filter last alot longer. It's a bit bulky, but definitely better than getting some intestinal issue. I have actually pumped water out of a muddy looking lake with no problems.
Good to know. I think that’s the system my friend was using and she loves it and has used it forever.
@@DeniseLookingOut One more thing, I take it apart after every trip and put all the parts on top of the dryer for several days to speed up the drying process.
Yes I have a Sweetwater filter!
Yeeeaaah buddy. The hoosier looks pretty great, you got me rethinking my route a bit, and now maybe trying to catch a northwestern edge of the park on my way to St. Louis.
Great video. Catch you on the road.
Thanks man. Can’t wait to see your video of my state!
@@DeniseLookingOut Indiana is state #8, and my favorite state so far. Looks like you have more foliage in the southern region than up around Columbus.
@@TravelingThru222 ha fall foliage! I have sooo much footage to catch up on. But definitely more woodsy down here than where you are.
@@TravelingThru222 oh and enjoy those hills. They’ll be the last you ride til the Rockies foothills. 😁
@@DeniseLookingOut Yessssssssss
You pick some of the best places to hike! The lakes looked so pretty. How is the elevation there? I love your peach shirt!
Thanks. It’s a Columbia shirt! 😁 No, elevation isn’t bad at all, less that 800-foot climbs. But very doable. Now that would have been a lot if I still lived in northeaster Indiana.
