      Hey thanks Michael, it was great meeting you too! I really enjoyed checking out your website yesterday and reading about all the races that you have coming up. I have done a backpacking video on Shawnee backpack loop already about three years ago... I was still kind of new at the RUclips thing at that time and one of my cameras quit working but it still turned out OK. Those hills were the reason I started using trekking poles haha! I do plan to go back and do the trail as a long day hike or an overnight.

      @jasonwish-  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@hangswithraccoons yeah, it’s basically just backpacking with a super light kit, but walking really fast and jogging on some of the flats and the downhills kinda like what an unsupported FKT would be. If you’re not familiar with FKT, it stands for fastest known time, basically a speed record on a trail and I’ve been doing them for about four years… super fun and very challenging!

    I've run the half marathon and 4.5 mile Iron furnace races there that Michael puts on. The North trail is the only part I haven't been on. I was going to post about doing an adventure on the Moonville rail trail ( since you have to bushwack about 7 river crossings) and was surprised to see that ODNR took over the trail and built bridges!! I didn't even know it. I was proven wrong as I never thought that kind of money would be available in that area. I'll have to take a trip down there this summer.

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  2 года назад

      I have never been to the Moonville trail /tunnel and I really wanted to do it but we just didn’t have enough time...will definitely check it out next time though. Great area for a race!

    • @michaelowen4011
      @michaelowen4011 2 года назад

      The new rail trail is awesome. I actually bushwacked and did the river crossings about 5 years ago - that was an adventure, but the completion of the trail with the bridges was a great addition to the area. The funding came from grants that were to close up old mine entrances in the area, and to access those locations they needed bridges and a road to drive in on. So it was cool that they were able to combine that project with a lasting improvement. The Moonville Rail Trail is owned and managed by the township and not ODNR, from my understanding, even though it was an ODNR project.

    Don't you ever have any fears about the big black panthers that roam the woods. The game wardens claim they are not real but they need to tell that to the one I came face to face with on a game trail about 4:00 pm one day while hiking alone. I know it thought about making an attack but I being very tall must have discouraged it. However, if it had attacked I was unarmed and helpless. I was shocking to say the least. Oh one more thing they have round ears not pointed like a house cat.

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  2 года назад +1

      I've hiked alone seven straight nights in a row in the deep dark forest of Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky, Big South Fork in Tennessee, and even through the mountains of North Central Pennsyvania and have never given it a second thought. Ohio would be the least of my worries of just about any place in America.

    For your stove canisters it's best to keep it at a medium settings you can conserve your fuel much much more efficiently

    Wow this hike was almost a social event!! Got to meet a bunch of people AND get a great hike in! Might be too long to answer here but why does a hammock tarp not work good as a camping tarp? Shape? Guy out locations?

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  2 года назад +1

      It was a nice little getaway, just wish the weather would’ve been a little warmer and calmer, and I’ve learned my lesson about going to places like that on the weekends! I pulled that tarp all the way to the ground when the wind started picking up and closed the doors on the ends and I still got wind gusting on me from up underneath it. When you close the doors since you’re not hanging up in the air on a hammock your head and feet almost touch the edge of the doors so if it would’ve poured on me I probably would’ve gotten wet. I Just think there’s much better tarps out there that are designed for sleeping under unlike this one which is designed only for hammocks. On a calm dry day it still works OK.

    Awsome. Where do you purchase your fuel? That tent is cool do they still sell the camo version? Gathered my gear going to pick a place and go. I'm in the Canton area of Ohio. Have any suggestions? Have you ever camped on the Erie tow path? Thanks for the views Jason.

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! You ca pick up those fuel canisters at most outdoor retailers like rei, Walmart even has them but usually only the larger ones. I assume Zpacks still makes the camouflage version of the Duplex but they might be hard to get right now. I would suggest Mohican State Park, not too far from Canton. I don’t know much about the Erie Towpath.

    Mountain House? Do you ever have condinsation with the single wall tent?

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  2 года назад

      When you need something quick and last minute you run to Wallmart! No condinsation when on ridge tops or when there is a breeze all night, but down in a low area or next to water or on a very calm night there usually is some condinsation but I just carry a small piece of shami cloth with me to wipe it up before packing tent up...so worth the condinsation risk for having a 19 ounce tent that is very roomy!

    And your duplex would have been just fine for tarp camping you kept it up too tall to high up it shouldn't a lot lower especially the back end that way it would have been easier to set the doors up and I complete tent type real deal but keeping your front sorry high as you can get in and out easier

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  2 года назад

      Well I didn’t film my tarp adjustment, I ended up lowering it all the way down and closed the doors and the wind still tore me up all night 😫.
