  • Day 1 of Bike Touring The Katy Trail in Missouri, one of America’s best long-distance rail trails. The Katy Trail stretches 240 miles from Clinton to Machens, Missouri. It also holds the title of America’s longest continuous rail-trail. We arrived to St Charles, Missouri, left our cars there and shuttled to the start of the Katy Trail in Clinton, Missouri. After a long travel day, we still hit the trail riding to Windsor to bike camp.

    If you do it this year, you have to eat at Khede's BBQ in Sedalia! I am from Indiana, but got stationed here in Missouri and ended up staying here after my military retirement. I love Missouri. So much stuff to do outdoors. I signed up for the Big BAM this year, and cannot wait!

    We did Katy last year. We started in KC and rode the spur to Windsor. Used the same shuttle service.

    Very nice video, but I wish you would include the prices you paid for the shuttle, camping etc.

    • @DeniseLookingOut
      @DeniseLookingOut  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks. So Shuttle was $100. Camping varied from $12-$30, one hotel night was $125. Everything else was food and beverages and we splurged quite a bit.

      @@DeniseLookingOut I assume it's too hot at this time of year. What do you think what month would be the best weather to do it? I just had my longest day ride here in Florida, it was hot.

      @@FollowThomas I love mid September for Midwest bike tours. Kids are back in school so it’s not peak season. Typically days are warm and nights are cool. Only challenge is some attractions and restaurants are closed for the season. But many stay open until October.

    Hello there, what hybrid bike would you recommend with budget of max 1200$ thanks!

    • @DeniseLookingOut
      @DeniseLookingOut  Год назад +1

      I’m a drop bar tour or gravel bike girl. I don’t have huge experience with hybrids. Before I got my tour bike I had a Trek hybrid. They are very affordable. It was a good bike, great for urban commuting. It just didn’t have as much gearing for climbing and I wanted a steel frame and disc brakes. I have seen some great hybrid bikes on the market. I would prolly make list of what riding you wanted to do with the bike. That will tell you features to look for, then shop around at local bike shops Test ride some hybrids, and ask lots of questions. Be a sponge. Take their info and go online to see what cyclists have to say about the bike and features. It’s the long way to do it but it’ll get ya the bike you need.

    May I ask where do you park your car there in St.Charles? Is it safe to leave it there? I’m planning a round trip Katy ride in May. Thx

      We parked two cars at the lot next to the Bike Stop Cafe, no problems. My car isn’t special and I left nothing visible worth stealing. There is also an overflow lot.
