so?
And what is wrong with that? Jesus christ

Poison Joe My friend is white and either blasts G Eazy or Florida Georgia alone every time we hang out
Don't even get me started on how he claimed to be "the coldest white rapper since Eminem" on that "Calm Down" track...
+Reuven Peskin He should listen to CL's Hello Bitches where a Koeran mall rat goes harder than most modern hip hop artists.
+Luke James (Album Reviews) Yelawolf did that on 1Train though and nobody complained there... But I am not defending G-Eazy, he's a dick
+Luke James (Album Reviews) yelawolf, logic, rittz, the list goes on
+Diego Grimaldo THANK YOU. I LOVE YOU.
+Undxfined (Quit) Wrong. The is such a thing called "experimental music" and in fact there is experimental rap.
Hey at least it's better than cudis album
one album is about is dull and plain as tortilla chip, the other is very complex terrible at some points and beautiful at few
+Paul Luna which one is which cause cudi's had a story just sounded like straight garbag, I haven't listened to g eazy yet

Lol "music for people who don't like their food spicy" that was so accurate! The safest most painfully generic "rap" I've heard in a while.
You can't put rap in quotes as though this isn't rap. _It is._ Might not be good, but we don't call a shitty movie a "movie". Grow up.

I liked the album but I can understand how other people didn't. My one problem with this review is that he didn't even mention Everything Will Be OK where G talks about his the acceptance and eventual death of his mom's female partner
I was really hoping this review would be you saying "no" for 5 minutes
nononono
Basically did
Or bread
+Y2JKickss Why? Cause you can't face the fact that a white rapper like G is actually killing it right now?
+Undxfined (Quit) album was bad. listen to someone who put out some good shit like Logic

I'm so glad other people in the comments can't stand G-Eazy either. I caught so much hate from tumblr fangirls whenever I trashed his last album "These Things Happen".

Oh hey Jon! :)
Thats actually the one review that you got right

+TJ Clarke theyre both garbage
Well this was disappointing. I actually loved this album.

+Curtis Mcnulty yeah it was better!
I didn't like the album either but idk why you guys have to bash his opinion, if he likes the album let him like the album I'm sure you like a album most people hate too.
I liked this album too, I actually like G-Eazy.
G-Eazy raps like hes using an online rhyme dictionary.
I'm actually a G-Eazy fan, but everything Anthony's saying about him is basically true... 😂

G-Eazy is so basic. I LOATHE when people call him the james dean of rap. james dean had talent and was far from 1 dimensional
I LOATHE people that think g eazy is a one-dimensional artist.

Oceanside Tunes runaround sue is GARBAGE he ruined the original song. I'm assuming outsider is a reference to the movie but g eazy is a pussy boy who shouldn't even be compared to greasers. no thanks. I've heard plenty g eazy songs. and couldn't he have shosen a different name that wasn't so similar to easy e??? garbage
G-Eazy has talent tho

I would say the instrumentals. I havent heard this album specifically, but the track Tumblr Girls has an incredible beat and trashy rap/lyrics. Most of the time you are mostly just listening to the backing track tbh
Yeah Eazy has okay to good instrumentals. His rapping is weird though.

G-Eazy has got a lot of the personality in songs like Everything Will Be OK. I dont understand why you said he has little to no personality, when he has tracks all across this to prove he has a personal story of turmoil and he fits rap fine. He didnt even mention Everything Will Be OK once in this review. Yes, he has some faceless songs but there are so many songs that are stories of deep personnel moments like on EWBO, Sad Boy, Think About You or Me, Myself & I

Fantano I usually agree with you, and even when I don't I appreciate your reviews and your opinions (yes I know), but it doesn't seem like you gave the album a full listen. I didn't like it all that much either but "Everything will be okay" was one track in particular that I would have thought you would enjoy or at least comment on it as being a heartfelt track. Seems like you skipped over it pretty quickly
I enjoyed the album. I think Sad Boy was one of the best tracks on the album, not necessarily for the lyrical content, but if you're looking for lyrical content on this album you failed to mention one of the saddest and hard hitting songs when it comes to lyrics, everything will be ok, where he talks about his mom leaving his dad for another woman and how she ends up dying. It's pretty touching
cudi > g eazy
Agree
He once was, until he turned into a fucking weirdo.
+Vizio02 I'm still waiting on motm3
Not rn hell no. Cudi has gone fucking nuts dude.
Jack Walker Na. He has a legacy & a huge fan base. Every rap album he drops is good also it sells. Once MOTM 3 comes out its over.
So I enjoyed this album, I would give it a 5 or 6 out of 10. Random, Calm Down, Everything will be OK, Of all things, Sad Boy, And nothing to me were all very enjoyable listens. Me myself and I was fine, but I didn’t care for it. Some kind of drug was also good, but to me, Everything will be ok, sad boy, and random were G’s strongest moments. But nothing like These Things Happen, sadly that was when Gerald peaked
I'll say he's probably got like 10 good songs I'd listen to. When ventures out of his style, songs aren't too great.
Definitely has some good instrumentals

+Kendrick M I wouldn't put it up there and I'm a huge Dizzy fan. Those 3 have better lyricism skills than Dizzy but he is definitely on the come up. I know he had some meaningful songs on the album but overall it sounds like a typical stoner album. I still enjoy it a lot and saw him live shortly after it came out.

+LogicNews301 Lol you are living proof, you are pissed at my comment and you're named after Logic (Must be quite a fan boy).. I Must be true... Both had such disappointing albums... Both were so bland...
you do know the mustard sound comes from the bay area, where g eazy is from.. so it's not so much of a "copy mainstream" sound as it is him doing the sound he grew up on.. the hyphy movement. something to consider.
+Tyler Wigfield regardless, love your reviews.. nobody knows how to dive into music like you do.
When I'm down I come back to this video's comment section and it cheers me up without fail
I don't get this guy's appeal, musically. This album was bland, lackluster, boring, his flow wasn't consistent, the lyrics were boring, his subject matter was boring, the beats were a dime a dozen, and it wasn't even cohesive. There were like 3 songs where he was introspective but they weren't enough for me to come back to them. Not to mention some unnecessary features like Big Sean and Chris Brown. Honestly this guy just feels like a white version of Big Sean, and his voice is annoying.
Ben big Sean is good tho
Ben
Because there’s more to music than all that. Just because someone’s lyrical content isn’t there, doesn’t mean it’s not a catchy song and someone can can feel a vibe and be entertained by it. Sometimes it’s just meant to have fun, music doesn’t have to be all fuckin serious lyrical, crazy flow, all the time.
HYPETIZE10 Or maybe because G-Eazy just got out of a relationship with a artist he usually collars with (Devon Baldwin) mainly because she cheated with his producer meaning G-Eazy has to go out n find multiple ones, thus having a much more mainstream type music. The B&D has much better production than this mess and most fans know that.
German Garcia
I literally just said the lyrical content is all there. Not sure why you’re telling me all that
a 4 seems a little high tbh
1:49 is probably the best analogy i've ever heard about g eazy fans lmaooo
Is there a google doc or something with all of needledrop's ratings for every artist and album?
I enjoyed the album when I first listened to it, I did a little more in depth listening and I realized there were only certain tracks I enjoyed. Calm down, everything will be ok, and order more are the only tracks I'm still listening to. I felt as G eazy actually put emotion into everything will be ok which I liked to see that more open side of him. And also I don't think it's fare when I hear people call this trash because either way every piece of music made has had some sort of time and work put into it. My first mixtape is coming out soon so I've learned through making it that music takes more time and work then we as the listeners would normally think. So I mean give the man a fare judgement he did put in time on this and I know that at the end of the day G eazy came out of that studio and felt good about what he made so he could probably care less about what any of us really think.
G-Eazy is one of those rappers who I for the life of me I can't see the appeal. I see the appeal in other bad rappers like Hopsin (preaches how mainstream hip hop is shitty) or MGK (raps really fast), etc. point being even if I don't like a rapper I can see the appeal they have to their fanbase. G-Eazy however I don't see the appeal whatsoever. Doesn't have an interesting flow, boring songs with mediocre bars. He literally offers nothing to the table, he's so generic it's almost funny.
His beats are catchy af, and that itself will draw in a crowd.
listen to "hip hop sinister" and "rip your heart out" by Hopsin
TheBoon14 G Eazy isn't the one who makes the beat. It should just be an instrumental album and it would be better.
Tbh, I actually mildly like Hopsin, I think he's capable of making good songs, but his lack of self-awareness holds him back miles. I know the two songs you mentioned, and yeah they're decent.
Big Boss Right, but that would be kinda weird and I don't see people listening to that.
If Anthony Fantano was critical of this album, I wanna see him go off on G-Eazy’s newest album “Everything’s Strange Here”
Aged well
I actually liked a couple of songs of this album. I like him as a rapper too. His song Me, Myself & I and Sad Boy have a lot of emotion in them. But some of your comments I can agree with.
I acc liked this album alot. He really tried to do something with it. The videos that displayed some of his songs, Me,Myself and I, showed some intresting topics that may have been seen before, but gave a slightly different view. G-Eazy did not try to make any big, harsh album he tried to break into the mainstream by making softer sounds. It worked out. Its Much better than his past attempts at music.
hopsin, logic, big sean, mgk, kid cudi, G-Easy.. walk into a bar...
@JustAryan so do all those other rappers except some make bad music
Hopsin, Logic, Big Sean, Kid Cudi actually make amazing music MGK is trash & haven't listened to a lot of G-Eazy
@@agfromdai.e3806 mgk is fire y’all need to give him a chance
Generic-Eazy
Here's the thing about G-Eazy... He used to make awesome and entertaining music for the people. He released tracks like Marilyn, The Outsider, Plastic Dreams, Shoot Me Down, Complete etc. These songs talked about real life struggles that people would have in everyday life; or in the struggling life of an artist trying to make it to the top. These Things Happen was honestly the last, and first album by G-Eazy I really enjoyed, and I believe I can probably say this for most people. While like it's stated in the video, When It's Dark Out has it's good points, it also has it's bad points; most likely more bad than good. The point is, only a few of G-Eazy's songs from this album were actually good. And in my opinion, the only good one was Everything Will Be OK; just because of the meaning and story behind the track. Bottom line to this little rant on G-Eazy is that if he doesn't either change his style into a more revolutionized version of his former music, try and stop smoking marijuana and consuming alcohol everyday killing his brain cells and basically disabling him to even have a decent personality, or literally revert back to his old style, he's completely screwed.
Anthony can you do a review of the Modern Baseball album "sports".

are we gonna ignore "everything will be ok" tho?
I personally love G-Eazy. My favorite artist before recently

i think anthony just hates the fact that g eazy is alive no matter what he does
I swear this guy only likes Kendrick and basically no one else. He hates Logic, Cole, Gerald, like what the actual fuck
+Dillon Forsythe
All three artists you mentioned suffer from the same problem (to varying degrees, G-Eazy being the worst offender): they're all generic. Cole isn't bad and Fantano never said he was (gave FHD an okay score if I recall). Logic is technically skilled, but that doesn't make him unique or interesting (once again, ITS got a decent score as well). G-Eazy however, is so unbelievably "trendy" and awful that this 4 seems generous to me.
He's not inconsistent. And your accusation seems off-base, I guarantee I could list at least 5 examples of hip-hop albums with a 7+ from this year (g-)ea(z)ily.
+Tyler Harding I guess if you've been listening to G as long as the true fans have you kinda just adapt and get used to him after a while. And he gave 2014 Forest Hills a 7 & 1/2 I believe and personally to me it had a lot more appeal than TPAB. And Logic's new album was super underrated by a ton of people. Not many artists have made a sort of movie out of their album (Kendrick did to some degree) but I thought he made the idea better. Really, both G and Logics new albums weren't for the critics, weren't for the new listeners either, they were just for the true fans. So as most of these people are outside that true fanbase, it makes it hard for them to judge the albums in the same light as the intended audience
+Tyler Harding and sometimes, what's wrong with being generic? Why does everyone have to be different?
*****
1. Forest Hill does have more appeal than TPAB, I agree - artistically however, the latter is undoubtedly more valuable than the former (which is how Fandango and other critics judge music).
2. I envy you for being around people who underrate Logic. Everyone I've ever met who mentions Logic likes to overstate his importance ("he's saving our generation/finally some real hip hop"). His new project was very ambitious, I agree, and, as someone who didn't enjoy anything off of Under Pressure, I liked some of the stuff off this album (Young Jesus namely). Once again though, the genericness (ugly word) of his style overshadows the ambition of whatever he's making, you know? That doesn't make you less of a music fan for enjoying it because enjoyment is completely subjective. I absolutely loved Legends Never Die by R.A. and Fagthony gave that one a 6.
3. I will say this though - implying that someone doesn't understand an album because it's "for the fans" is a total copout. Music is enjoyable or it isn't. Maybe I'm jaded here, but people like Kid Cudi like to use that argument to excuse making shitty music.
4. Nothing has to be "different" to be enjoyable, but it does need to be unique to be worth remembering/of artistic value. I think that's the primary distinction you have to make when seeing someone review art, between integrity and enjoyability. Lots of times, the former is forgone in favor of the latter or vice versa. When the two align you have a classic project.
5. G-Eazy (and Logic, to a lesser extent) imitates the styles of those who are unique. You are better off listening to the originals, but it's totally understandable to enjoy the style so much that you even like the imitators, there are some pretty famous cover bands and they literally do nothing more than copy an original (and no sane individual will argue that this guy does that little).
Now I personally REALLY dislike G-Eazy because I think he's extremely bland, but I tend to like more eccentric music anyway. This is pop with a (t)rap twist, and, if that's the genre you enjoy, don't feel ashamed for liking it.
+Tyler Harding yeah I definitely feel where you're coming from, and the thing about Logic is he's not trying to be all his own. From the beginning he's never been afraid to show his influences, and me personally and also the guys at Dead End Hip Hop really appreciate that
I'm not sure if this guy has actually listened to his old music..... And what he has switched up to. Geazy is very creative, he went from focusing on music producing to just rapping and creating a lyrical genius.

I listen to G mainly for the beats. The beats he uses are preeeetty sick. If you just get blasted fucking drunk and throw on "One of them" or "don't let me go" or "you got me", it's going to be a hell of a time. I think that's what he's making music for.
