Honestly, I really thought that elevated this review to a rewatch for me. It’s really a window in to Anthony’s soul, a deep, tortured Japanese loyalist that feels impotent because of his countries military weaknesses. Fantastic writing, truly.

Also, *Anthony does not judge all albums by the same criteria. He judges them by what they're trying to accomplish.* This is why albums like DAMN have gotten a 7 and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy have gotten a 6, they did not live up to what they marketed themselves as in the slightest (though Anthony still liked both to some degree).

Most of these songs don't have solid themes and musical ideas holding them together, they're just platforms he uses to showcase his ability and word vomit about things and people that are annoying him, and then try and spin it off to desperately appear like he's coming out on top. It all just feels so insecure and unaware.

Edgelord? Nah, I just don’t think the album is as good as Em fans think it is. It’s a subpar album that genuinely only exists as a diss mixtape. His style has aged and it shows. Most artists, in order to stay relevant, need to reinvent themselves to set the bar again. This isn’t just true of music, but of any art in general. Eminem thought he could come back to thunderous applause for a style that hasn’t stood the test of time while changing nothing new about his formula. Do I like the direction hip hop went in and do I like the mumble brand it’s procreated? No, but I’m not going to blame the general public, critics, or artists themselves for liking things or disliking things.
Everyone isn’t going to hail to the opinion you’ve seemed to put above all others, the world doesn’t work that way.
