This has got to be the most objective and constructively I’ve ever heard you speak of Eminem. To be honest I really empathize with the guy. He went from being one the most influential figures in the genre to being a type of laughing stock in the community. I’ll admit his recent stuff isn’t my cup of tea but he’s been a huge influence on many people, including myself in regards to music. He’s a human being like all of us and his isolation from new things in the scene and his apparent discomfort with an older age, for the genre, shouldn’t keep up from respecting his place within it. If he was taken away around the time of his peak potential I have no doubt many people would have not blinked at putting him right next to Pac and Biggie. I really appreciate this segment Anthony. Conversations like this really help build bridges, not only in music, but in communication in general. Also I’d like to take this opportunity to say you need to bring back Thatistheplan. You’re a pretty good music reviewer but we all know your truest talent is meme reviewing. Stop lying to yourself Melon.
I completely believe that Em is right there along side Pac and Biggie. The only difference is that Pac and Biggie died at their career's peak and they didn't got strangled in this life. They didn't make a mistake nor a bad song. Em is 45 years old and he's living in totally different rap industry. He is conflicted, doesn't know what young people want or enjoy. He got strangled by this strange times. But at least he's honest and speak his mind. He makes songs that he wants to make, not what people want. This is a speciality that current players don't have.

True. One thing I also admire about Eminem is his passion for hip hop and its history. And also the fact that he still desires to be among the best in the world despite his age. I think we will see a completely different Eminem (production-wised) in his future album(s) Especially because the track "Lucky You" with Joyner Lucas was a huuuuge succes. I aspect Eminem to do more features with other rappers (including Joyner again).
He didn’t become a laughing stock he has just had hit and misses which still sell.
Abbas Asfoor that’s one of the big factors. Not everybody ages gracefully in the music industry,. It’s really a young mans game and cases like Jay-Z are rare. With how douchey we are with older rapper chances are we would be making fun of Biggie and Pac if they were making music that didn’t resonate.
I didn't like Revival that much, but Joe Budden saying that it didn't have any content is just outright false. The topics on the album ranged from abortion to drug abuse to family to politics to dealing with growing older, etc etc
Scooby MiKE thank you!! I agree that it’s laughable to say his music is void of topic or substance. As far as not liking Revival goes, try going back and giving it another listen in a few months now that you don’t have any expectations. Because I genuinely think that Eminem fans will grow to love Revival, it’s his most different work and his most mature project. The sounds it experiments with are both new for Eminem and eclectic, the Walk on Water opening is “ballsy” in a whole new way. Releasing a LEAD single with not a single drum present in the instrumental is really risky and I really admire it. Eminem is still finding ways to push the envelope in entirely different ways now. Personally I think the album would have been even better with all of the edge (like framed) taken out of it.

Brainless, Groundhog Day, Don’t Front, Baby, Castle, Awoke. While I don’t like the songs because of the beats and hooks, every one of those songs are loaded with content. People who say he doesn’t have content are on an Em hating bandwagon. No one does their own research. They just let others do the thinking for them.

@@ismailkoya66 He's been hated in the community since Relapse(2009). I think he's had some great stuff on that record, Recovery, and mmlp2. Of course, he's had some terrible stuff too, but no one wants to acknowledge the good.

I’m a huge Em fan, but I agree with you about the Tyler line. My main critique is that usually when he disses someone, he does it in a way that’s clever, or funny. He just sounds bitter on that line though
What would you do if a person you used to talk to in person just goes up on twitter and trashes your project rather than saying that in person. It's just disrespect. I get it he should have clowned both of them ( Earl and Tyler ) rather than just seriously dissing them but this isn't the old times and this isn't old em. And Tyler was someone he praised and wanted to succeed if you compare it to his other beefs you will see that almost none of them have been betrayals. Any album that has The Monster and Headlights on it is automatically a 5 or below
Strictly put in the context of the rest of his career, Bad Guy is maybe his best song. The dad rock samples work really well. The sense of closure makes it a rock solid final album, which made it especially sad when it didn't work out that way.

He should have released a deluxe edition but the only difference is that the last three tracks are deluxe edition tracks along with Killshot and whatever tracks were going to be on the Bodied soundtrack. Seriously, those last three tracks are so fucking out of place.

Eric Colden stronger than I was grew on me. I feel if a great singer made a cover to it, it would be perfect. Because everything is there, the melody, lyrics, instrumental, just Eminem doesn’t have a singing voice (and he obviously knows that)
Eric Colden bad guy was my favorite song on mmlp2. It was one of the best album intros I’ve heard. and yes it definitely needs a video. Eminem could still do it if he wanted to or a good independent studio could make a decent fan made video. Then what made it even better is that after basically the curtains raised, it started right where mmlp left off with the police chase skit, then the album begins

Eminem is like Tyler’s first 3 albums but over the course over 20+ years (in terms of the amount of immaturity and edginess contained with them). It’d be cool to see the two of them find a topic for them to both speak on in depth.

It must be incredibly difficult to be Eminem artistically right now. He knows his best material is his earliest work, and he's trying to recapture that, but when his sound revisits it people are over it. But when he tries something new, people generally hate that. He's kind of one of those people who has made his mark already and there's little else he can do. I think he still releases good music from time to time as well. But when it comes to his actual legacy I am not sure that he can really improve it much more. There are going to be people who just think Eminem is wack and will judge him on his lesser material. That is the folly of releasing past those classic 3 albums. Eminem is really treading quick sand if he's going to continue to try proving his worth. But he has made a bit of a splash with kamikaze and the diss track and I hope he starts climbing up from here.
Very solid comment, couldn't have said it better myself. Part of me wonders if his ranking in the genre among hip hop heads would have been higher if he retired after The Eminem Show.

Eminem wasn't remorseful about dissing Tyler. He very clearly felt remorse about the use of the word: "Faggot."
He said he was so focused on hurting Tyler that he forgot how he may have hurt so many more people through the use of that word.

Eminem was more upset about the *manner* in which Joe Budden critiqued "Untouchable."
Ernest Afoakwah yeah, he was like “wOrSt FuCkInG sOnG eVeR” but it was a really good track on Revival, it had that Berserk vibe to it and Em was speaking about all that police racism shit going on at that time. His flows and punchlines were great, it wasn’t like that heavy duty line or the dill pickle line, they were all good lines. I think Joe was mad because he’s white and he made a song about racism, and Crooked I said Joe had some stuff on his chest about Em, he wasn’t acting like he normally does around Em. So maybe there’s something else and he wanted to just diss him cause he couldn’t hold it in any longer.

Eminem’s biggest problem is rapping for sport and not rapping to make good music. Not only that but he refuses to bring in tons and tons of people like Kanye has been doing his entire career. Stop making your own beats and create a vibe. When Eminem changed his voice he died to me.
