Cziffra truly makes this sound like it's being played by two separate pianos. Absolutely incredible sound and the effect is exactly what Liszt wanted. Wow. I only wish the piano was better in tune so this sparkling interpretation would shimmer even more.
Such a gorgeous interpretation-such expressive nuances! So smooth in the opening arpeggios. So many others sound like a thunderous herd of horses! This is my favorite piece and probably my favorite interpretation! I do think Victor Borga played this beautifully, too, although this may be better. But I wish someone would post Victor’s performance. I’ve only found it on dvd as part of a complete concert.
Oh wow this is marvelous. I still don't understand why Cziffra is not as popular as horowitz. Cziffra was the real deal, I read "des canons et des fleurs" i highly recommend this book to understand the artist better. Thanks for sharing the music.
The simple answer, imo, is because he lived in France and not America. Post WW2, American ascendance to primacy in terms of cultural proliferation and economic dominance ensured that American players, or at least ones who made their home there, or had American press and booking agents, got promoted while musicians you lived in Europe, or Russia (America's arch nemesis), weren't as visible even if vastly superior. Growing up in North America (Canada), I had never even heard Sviatoslav Richter until I was in my 20s, which is just crazy. Thank God for RUclips, that's all I can say.

Zciffra was the master who could play Lizst's music the right way
That was FANTASTIC....Cziffra has the soul of lIszt.
Had.
By far the best version by the master
The initial arpeggios start off slow and get faster still maintaining the clarity, if you close your eyes it almost sounds like a harp

Even Horowitz himself once said he admired Cziffra's techniques!
Zciffra was way better than Horowits both in technique and interpretations

This is it, when Cziffra plays Liszt, Liszt comes to life. OMG this is so good. Imagine you play like this, or even better you compose like this,
Just brilliant
Like an incessant stream of beauty finding expression through every note.
Ő a mi egyik nagy büszkeségünk: apja roma muzsikus, édesanyja magyar. Én is magyar vagyok.
Il a habite 16 rue ampère a paris au 1er étage et moi au second mafille de 5 ans al'epoque descendait prendre des leçons !
tu as vraiment de la chance!
"Cziffra is only a virtuoso of smashing the piano." Okay, you fools, listen to this performance and change your mind. 😄
Also listen to his Mendelssohn rondo cappriccio. Very good!
I listened and its still nowhere near as good Hamelin
esatto
@@nezkeys79 this is definitely better than Hamelin IMHO
@@cziffrathegreat666?!?!??!?!?!! *NOOO. NOT AT ALL!!!*
Wow... the flow...of music...
Beautiful!
Absolutely superb performance! And what a tragic life...
Franz Liszt returned as a Hungarian ROMA ethnic person in the human we know as Gyorgy Cziffra to uplift the Roma peoples !
Biss!!!
Sir Franz is the best!
No se pueden evitar las lágrimas
Magistral
GRACIAS
IMO this is the best interpretation along with arrau and bolet. Better than Hamelin
¡¡Muy bueno¡¡
A match here fir Richter
but why does it sound so bad
you almost got me
@@cziffrathegreat666 It actually does not sound great: the piano needs tuning and is not recorded very favorably. (Great playing though.)
This sounds way better than most of Cziffra's recordings on RUclips to be honest.
Not everyone in the world had access to the best recording studios or the best pianos.
