The thing that’s so amazing about this isn’t that she can play it, it’s the fact that she plays the entirety of it perfectly, in front of a crowd and Lang Lang.
Surely one of Liszt's most beautiful works, Un Sospiro is heard at its very best in this supremely inspired performance. The immense stretches, hand crossings and dazzling passagework, which would defeat many a much older pianist, are handled effortlessly and with great smoothness, creating a sea of liquid sound. Congratulations Annie on an outstanding musical achievement !
Put this on whilst doing my homework and forgot I listening to a young teen playing. Genuinely had the sensitivity and expression of a much older pianist. Incredibly played, I'm 16 and no where near that level. Truly impressive.
How did Liszt ever create such beauty from such a complicated piece of music and how in God's name did a 13 year old manage to play it with those tiny hands?! Incredible
Wow, how did I ever miss this performance, Janet?? Annie simply sparkles with brilliant virtuosity!! What an honor to be there with Lang Lang, as well. I have to say, she is as good as he is, even at her young age :-))) Always a pleasure to watch a musical genius at work. Bravo Annie! ~Jackie
Best interpretation I have heard of this piece. She is feeling this ,,, not simply playing it . Better than the times I have heard Hamline videos or Lang Lang's .
Adding on here.... After listening to many renditions of Un Sospiro by various artists on piano as well as harp, I began to imagine that the body of this piece is not the sigh. The body is a daydream or a fond memory or even something more physical ...a kiss possibly or lovers' embracing .. The sigh comes when all that is finished.. right at the end. This interpretation by Annie Zhou helped me hear that at 6:24
Oh Annie, having watched you play, Chopin two years later, I've just got to say you are a unique, sublime player, with the most impressive "gift" that I've heard in a very long time, what a talent, as well as all the very hard work that you've put in. I would say that Langlang, should be worried, as you could take the world by storm! Bravo, once more.
To see and listen Annie play Liszt is like having had a wonderful dream. It seems that his hands effloresce without touch the piano. I have really loved this great performance Annie. It is splendid ! Congratulations ! Bravo !
It's always a pleasure to see young prodigies excel. Having a very good teacher also makes a big difference to these young gifted learners. Sounded great. I'm sure there are a few more there that can give her a run for the prize. Chopin wasn't the only one that wrote beautiful pieces. Liszt wrote some beautiful contemplative pieces....Liebestraum, Consolation, Un Sospiro, etc.
dynamics and pauses are important in musical interpretation, but Tone is one of the most important aspects that separate this Annie Zhou from even Lang Lang himself!
@@constantinosfiakkas6865 Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. Your support means a lot and keeps me motivated to continue working hard. Thanks again for watching!
A genius. Minor technical quibbles aside, the big-picture story she weaves is more convincing than Hamelin, Cziffra, Lang Lang, Trinonov, Cliburn, Richter, (!) and many others I've heard. Every adjustment she made for her hands was so tasteful and every phrase was so unusually balanced. We all could learn something from this one. Just wow! Liszt above is tipping his hat off to you.
Dear Annie, never cease to amaze your performances ... but what strikes me is your complete devotion to the piano, never trying to pretend false virtuosity or geniality, your interpretation is always respectful of the author and to the message that its author inserted in it, in fact reminds me the piano style from the old German school. In one word, beautiful. God bless you.
I just love your performance Annie,,,your fingers so delicately bringing Liszt's... "Un Sospiro" to life!!! Every time I listen it fills me more. Bravo!!! Brilliant!!!
I cannot seem to listen to this piece without getting misty eyed and most of Lizst's works don't affect me that way. Congratulations on the Ettlingen prize, Annie. You are a precious gem...
Wonderful interpretation and fantastic playing, Annie! I like it very much! That's music! All thumbs up for you, standing ovations and best regards Karlheinz
Hi Janet, I've returned again for another listen to this wonderful performance. such incredible talent. Annie's playing actually makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. pure magic..my best wishes to you and young Annie...take care dear friend...Ronnie
Hi Janet, thanks honey for sharing Annie's incredible performance with us. and my congratulaions to Annie on another amazing performance. I feel Annie's exceptional ability and talent exerts an influence on music that is far in advance of anything I have seen in someone so young. my very best wishes to you both..your friend ..Ronnie
bravissimo! that is a breath-taking performance of one of my favorite pieces by Liszt. just beautiful . . . thank you very much and greetings from Tokyo.
What an amazing talent - absolutely out there on top with the very best pianists of today. Not just another romantic virtuoso piece, the way many pianists make it - you interpret it with a melancholy, which develops into despair, the true essence of Liszt - then there is a gentle resignation. The best, Annie, you're the BEST!!
Annie - Fantastic rendition for so young a pianist. This was a mature and delightful performance which amply demonstrates that you are fulfilling your promise. I was enthralled. Also it was a fine recording and a wonderful showcase for your talents. Perhaps you will play at the Queen's 70th Jubilee in 2022 when you will surely be an established artist. Brava! Thank you for posting Janet - you must be so proud of Annie. I am delighted for her.
such transcendent beauty is revealed in the sensitive and flawless execution by Miss Annie Zhou of this timeless composition of sonic art by the Maestro Liszt. thank you very much Annie, omedeto gozaimasu (Happy New Year!) and greetings from Tokyo.

I just love listening to Annie! Having witnessed many performances at countless competitions, I can see something very special in her musicality...Bravo!
We love to focus on perfection, but what blows me away is the isolation of melody amid those runs and the ebb and flow of expression that is yours. Transcendental.
Thank you Janet for your message...Annie is so blessd, her hands lightly dance upon the keys creating such a lovely flowing sound..bring it stgraight to my heart!!!
Fantastic interpretation and brilliant playing! I like this great piece and your playing very much. Hearty congrats to your awesome performance and your success to be with Lang Lang in the radio. He obviously was also very impressed. I like his playing also very much. But I think he could'nt play this piece better than you do here in the video. You transport a great feeling with your playing. All the best and all stars for you! Yours Karlheinz
Annie and Janet, I came back to listen to this great performance by Annie and realized that my original comment is not here anymore, so I would like to comment again on this magical performance!!! This is truly one of the most beautiful Liszt works, wrapped in incredible complexity. Annie's performance at just 13 years of age is nothing short of amazing....astounding really since most adult pianists will never achieve this level of play in their lifetime. The quick crossover work alone is breathtaking. Add to that the intricate and sparkling arpeggios and other complexities and it's truly an amazing feat!! BRAVO and a standing ovation for young Annie :-) ~ Jackie
You are so very welcome dear Janet!! To me, Annie is of the best of this world and plays with a touch and heart seldom seen!! Such a standout performer and beautiful, intelligent young woman. She has it all and you must be so proud!! Much love to you and your whole family! :-) ~Jackie
Every of Annie's performances makes me speechless again. I'm ever so happy if I finally find the time to listen to some of her performances. She plays with so much feeling, it's just incredible! Yea, I think she'll become - no, I've to correct - she already IS one of our greatest female pianists of our time. Thanks for giving us so much with your music, Annie!
With eyes closed I thought I was listening to Marc Hamelin (who BTW is a master of this piece)....JUST AMAZING...and unaffected....a truly gifted talent destined for greater things to come.
Very well played. Precise and beautiful. I can hear the different layers clear and independently analyzed and brought for us to listen! A talented young artist. Brava! Thanks Annie for giving your own view to this famous piece. ❤
