  • Why are some therapists more effective than others? Decades of research have shown the model of treatment employed, years of experience, and professional discipline contribute little if anything to outcome. In recent years, researchers have developed a tool for identifying the characteristics of effective clinicians. Known as the FIS, or Facilitative Interpersonal Skills Performance Task, it assesses the therapist's ability to form an effective bond by monitoring their actual responses to difficult and challenging client material. In this interview, two researchers, Sabine van Thiel and Kim de Jong, describe recent advances in understanding and scoring the tool.

Thanks for posting this! I’m trying to get into the meeting during my early mornings, but with kids at home it’s hard!

Whenever I watch you Scott I think about how lucky Tobey and I were to encounter you way back. Our clients were lucky as well.
