  • For the last 5 decades, the DOPS Center at the University of Virginia has been studying consciousness -- in particular, investigating phenomena that challenge mainstream scientific paradigms. Dr. Kim Penberthy is a member of a team of researchers focused on documenting and analyzing data regarding extraordinary human experiences (e.g., claims of past lives, near death experiences, presentience). In this interview, she describes her research and why it should matter to mental health professionals.

A conversation with my son Dominic when he was three, “me” I love you so much and you are the best child I could imagine! Dominic “that is why I chose you!”
After watching this video, I will continue with my book. I started reading today. It is written by Thaye Dorje the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa a reincarnated, Tibetan, monk and llama!
I am me clinical psychologist, hypnotist and Buddhist, since 1991 meditating since 1983.
Most of my life, I have been a scientific atheist but the older I get the wiser I get the last I come to conclusions about life and death and consciousness. I am content what is the answer” I don’t know!!”

So glad to know our wonderful dog who died several years ago has a consciousness that survived her death. And maybe came back as a Great Dane. This conversation suffers from the great illusion that human beings are really different from other sentient beings when it comes to matters of life and death.

Great interview and thanks for raising this topic of consciousness surviving death for consideration.
I often ask clients when and if appropriate, "So, what is your interior spiritual life like?" I have never had a client object to the question and 80% answer immediately seeming to know perfectly well what I am talking about.
Lately I have developed a strong interest in Spiritual Intelligence, SQ, as compared with IQ and EQ. Cindy Wigglesworth has written a very practical and interesting book about the 21 skills of Spiritual Intelligence.
Another area worth exploring is Integral Philosophy and Psychology which Ken Wilber has pioneered. His AQAL model is very helpful to me in conceptualizing the work I do with people involving the four quadrants of reality.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about psychic powers in particular (ESP, presentience, etc.). While I find their "realness" compelling and worthy of continued investigation, the empirical issue seems to come down to this: Do these phenomena predict events at a rate greater than random chance? If the answer is no, then the absolute best we can say is that even if psychic powers exist, they're functionally undiscernible from error.

    No. Death is death.
Resurrection occurs because death is death.
The body and brain are incredible adaptation machines.

Your logic is.... Death is death and therefore Resurrection occurs. By your logic, death is death and therefore Photosynthesis occurs. In my example however it can be proven over and over again. Yours depends on a chosen fairytale
