At this point in the game your goal should be pretty much to explore the underground. You'll be looking for better ores (for pickaxe upgrades and armor), heart crystals, and other loot like accessories and weapons (which are either dropped by mobs, crafted, or found in chests). To explore underground I recommend digging a mineshaft right by your house (this makes exploration much more convenient) that goes straight down. to go up and down use ropes. you still want to explore caves (cause thats the best way to find the things that your looking for), but a main shaft with rope makes getting around a lot more convenient. you should use the wiki to figure out stuff like what types of items you can find, where to find things, how to make things, and stuff about mechanics that you don't know yet.
