We had the Contour in the rental fleet at the Company I work for and they actually were one of the better cars we had only thing customers despised the roll up windows. Neighbor across the street has one of the 1st year model when it came out and it seems to do ok for her
Randy, my second car was a 98 Bonneville, that car scooted! I had a single inlet dual outlet muffler put on there with square tips. It was a beast for the time!!! Loved it!!!
Sad fact is because of their reliability, some Toyota owners neglect to check the oil regularly
That year Corolla went through oil like crazy. I had a 02 and it drank a quart every 500 miles. If you keep oil in them they'll keep going. I sold that car to my brother and now it has 253k.
Valid point. Toyota’s will run forever but they are know to use oil (leaks) and you need to check the oil once a week starting around 150,000 miles. Change your oil to 5W30 High Mileage. Drive around 1000 miles and you’ll find oil consumption drops substantially.
Ford Contour was my first car ever. All I can say is it survived 17-year-old me driving it. Top speed runs, full throttle pulls. I had that car up until I was about 23.
It looks like a Mondeo except for the rear. Do you know if they were related?

When someone came up with the catch phrase" It's a Jeep thing" they were talking about all the stuff that goes wrong with a Jeep. Jeep owners know this and are well aware of what that phrase represents.

I found a 1998 Bonneville SSEi at my local pick n pull the other day. The seats are so comfortable and it’s so nice. I wanted it.

I have a 2002 Jeep Wrangler Sport with the 4.0 straight 6 and automatic transmission. Owned it since 2010. Been a solid daily driver. No blown head gasket (as of yet), no transmission issues either (knocking on wood). The radiator did spring a leak a couple of years ago, I replaced that. The steering gear box has just started to leak at the steering wheel shaft seal, getting a couple of drips every so often. That's a project I'll be taking on in a few weeks as I keep the fluid topped off. Debating between rebuilding the gear box myself (the seals are pretty cheap), or perhaps going with a RedHead.

We had a base Contour when I was younger and I used to laugh because it had the base factory audio and on the doors the speakers said "STEREO" LOL and I thought that was so cheesy!!

These auction vids have been terrific lately. Love that you showcase all the old "junk" like that contour! Always thought they were neat looking cars. And I love the Bonneville! They are unreasonably attractive and comfortable cars for what they are. I also agree that the audis are sharp cars... Shame they're not exactly model citizens of automotive reliability.

I had many 4.0 jeeps, never a head gasket issue, over 300k on them and the engines were never apart.

My buddy had two Contours, and a Mystique, cousin had a contour, too.
And you're right, those were junk cars.
Sadly, due to their reliability, most Toyota owner's forget to change or check the oil.
Saw both a first gen Escape and a Mariner while you walked around the lot, both of those are great vehicles.

That Ford Contour is called a Ford Mondeo here in Europe.
The Mondeo looks much nicer due to not having the silly US regulation bumpers and the rear end was different (the Contour had the mk1 rear with different lights), also the Mondeo dashboard is better.

Get that Bonneville in the other video for sure that generation is sweet! Sad that this Bonneville is kind of rough because they aren't bad. Sad seeing the Toyota like that they are solid cars and pretty good overall. I don't mind the Contour and not many left in that shape. If you see it at a decent price you could maybe grab it. My 09 Corolla has almost 300k original motor, tranny, ac compressor and radiator only thing I've changed in water pump and head gasket. (Head gasket was my fault) Maintenance is KEY

Hello Randy. The 2015 Audi Q5 is a good looking car even though you need two doors. The 1998 Ford Contour is a good looking car.

That sky reminds me of the other day I was driving to my husband’s work and the tornado sirens were going off and it was blue sunny skies where I was but behind me was horrible. I turned on the radio and sure enough there was a tornado warning on the storm behind me of course where we live and our fur babies were home alone. Talk about panic attack I was super worried about them.

Ford Contour/ Mercury Mystuiqe. When they were sent to a holding lot and had just started selling both cars they almost imeadiately did a recall on them. When filling with fuel there tended to be a spark and then fire due to a bad fuel neck.
I cried laughing this whole episode Randy, when u we’re dealing with the jeep, tha funk was real, the contour was crazy, I was gonna buy one back then, I bought a Saturn instead, the Toyota Corolla was totally not what you said it would be , the contour either , I enjoyed this episode tx

My mom had a 93 Cherokee 4.0 had it for 7 years until at 240k she ran it out of coolant overheated and the head gasket went. My dad has a 98 Wrangler with 260k on original head gasket it’s all about maintenance
