  • Glenn Fricker recently made a video about the big problems he had with his Sterling by Music Man Petrucci guitar. But Glenn got some things wrong in that video and it’s fair they are corrected. PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT an employee of Ernie Ball Music Man or Sterling by Music Man. As a EBMM forum moderator I am a community member giving my time to help run the forum. That's all.

I love Glenn but he don't half talk some bollocks. I'm that 'classic rock guy' according to Glenn so most of his videos about 'this piece of equipment doesn't change your tone' seems only relevant when your saturating everything in tons of gain. His production sounds ok but nothing amazing to me.

He has always been very clear that *for the music he produces*, which is high gain guitars, the speaker is by far the biggest defining factor, and I 100% agree. In more general terms, I would state that the higher the level of distortion, the less important pre-distortion EQ elements are and the more imposing post-distortion EQ elements are. And a speaker is just a big EQ at the end of the chain. Example: Go to the Jensen speaker website and listen to their sound samples. Clean tones, the differences between speakers are small. Distorted tones, the differences are huge.

Thank you for the informative video. I have to agree that I was thinking the same things watching that video. Glen has some great content especially when it comes to recording and sound engineering advice but the guitar reviews can be hit or miss. I was frustrated watching the Solar guitar review where he said it was an epic fail since it didn’t come with a 9 volt battery, which Solar is completely clearly stating on the guitar’s page and there are laws around shipping with a connected battery. 2 follow up videos later and still there was no clear owning up to it and just offering an honest apology to the viewers. Mistakes happen, just need to own it, take ownership and it’s fine.

Yes, we all make mistakes and there is *never* any shame in owning up to it, only in digging in and ignoring or denying it.t

Thank you for this video, my friend. I think Glenn was way over the line. In an attempt of antagonizing "guitar elitists", Glenn has been making some pretty disingenuous accusations. That's not the right way to do it.

When i watched the video being a fan of glenn i did think the same thing as you, and its typical he hasnt mentioned that guitar since but will bang on about the gibson flying V he bought,
as much as i like his content when it comes to reviews on guitars i tend to swtich off as he doesnt know what he's talking about, i know for a fact that sterling he had was not set up properly, i own multiple music man majesties and if they're not set up properly they are a complete pain, the nut issue obviously was a problem but he could of fixed it if he'd of gone about it the right way like you mentioned the neck allignment,
im surprised that video hasn't been taken down to be honest but happy you've posted this response.

Every sterling I’ve played has been super solid, I was super shocked to see Glenn’s video and highly suspected he bought a beat to shit used guitar.
